Game Thread Lady Vols vs. Carson-Newman College,Exhibition Game

We really haven't seen the main team yet that I think can be dynamic and get to the final four. That would be Diamond and Cooper in the starting lineup along with Russell, Graves or Jones and Carter. When healthy a perimeter of Diamond, Carter, and Cooper can get after perimeter players like none other we can put out there.

The lineup I am most looking forward to seeing if Holly should utilize it should be PG-Cooper SG-Carter SF-MeMe PF-Diamond C-Jones Defensively (and offensively) this lineup will be hard for teams to contend with. Jones at the 5 is a disadvantage to many teams (I know she is undersized but athletically she makes up for it) Diamond can play the 1-4 so having her at the 4 is also an advantage for us. Imagine her getting the rebound and flinging it down the court to Jones who has burned any defender they put on her down the court. Diamond at the 4 also forces teams to have to bring their 4 player away from the lane. MeMe is extremely aggressive and isn't afraid to attack and neither is Cooper. Carter will play a lot better next to her childhood friends (Diamond and Cooper) not saying that we start this lineup but with us having 4 quarters now I wouldn't mind seeing this lineup for stretch to extend a lead or build one.

CN starting subbing in the 4th and the game was somewhat close. That's why we scored so much in the 4th quarter. CN let all their players play and we made our stats look good. I agree with Orange Maniac..... Prior to the 4th quarter, we didn't look good. If you take out Mercedes, we would of had a tight ball game. They shot the 3 like we want to but we just don't have the shooters. A lot of our team tonight won't see much action when our team is healthy ........To me, everyone looks the same as last year other than Dunbar. I honestly thought she and Middleton would transfer after this year but Dunbar was MUCH IMPROVED. Good for her!

I just want to start off by saying that Jasmine Jones is back and she really is our secret weapon.. She has gotten so much more stronger and that elevation of hers is top notched... The play in which she powered by 3 defenders and went in for the layup was pretty impressing even better if it would've went in... Mercedes has great hands and she runs the floor so well just so smooth and seeing her run the floor with Draya put a big smile on my face oh and speaking of Draya way to shoot way to create your on shot good job lets keep that confidence all year... Also Kortney at the 4 seems reasonable she's a big body she looks 6'3 to me vs 6'2 but she does have a nice shot I hope Holly plays her more. Jordan see's the floor extremely well and her shot looks better Meme a tad wild but I love her energy she can be a game changer down the road... The team looks good thus far

you can tell she is 6"3"? If you want to know the actual height of each player, just deduct 2 inches from the listed height.

It's beyond belief how anyone can spew negativity, sans the 3-pt defense, after last evening's exhibition. First, we are witnessing the real Mercedes Russell for the first time, and she impressed. I love her hands, bb iq, touch, height (obviously, this is a given), passing ability and stamina (played a lot of mins for a preseason contest).

JJones looks primed and ready. Reynolds has matured on the court. Carter's shot, though a work in progress, looks smooth. Dunbar is a legit weapon, folks. Bash merely needs to stay aggressive and work on consistency and in-out game. Middleton's jumper is a thing of beauty: she's improved over all.

Holly will get after it this week where three-point defending and consistency is concerned. The potential for Team '15-16 is through the roof. I can't wait to see DD, Cooper and the others (hoping the reports that Nia has become more physical during the off season are true) on the floor.

The LVs should have ample talent, depth and drive this year to reach the Final Four ... and hopefully beyond.

It's good to be a Lady Vols fan!

glass half full person...........good to know

Don't forget Nared. I hope her injury doesn't set her back. Last season she was one of two players that had a decent chance of hitting a midrange shot - Burdick being the other.

I was talking about the present not the future. Hoping to see a better lineup in the next few games don't expect Nared back until middle of December.

It is far too early to judge the Lady Vols based upon a practice game. Holly threw a lot of combinations that she will never use in an actual game. I looked at it as a good time to see what you have. I do think we need to be a little more agressive but think that will come. I think when the coaches breakdown the video, they will see things that need to be corrected.

I did notice that Russell was out of position a few times to make a rebound or block a shot. I believe that she will become a force in the paint. We need to remember that she took a year off to correct problems with her feet. It may take a few games before she becomes the force she was in high school.

I also think DD is not close to being like Tucker. I think she wants to get on the court but is being held back by Holly until she is completely healed. I believe that Tucker was scared to test her knee in a real game. I think she became a head case. I do not think we necessarily need her for the first four games but will certainly need her ready for the grind of the SEC and the strong opponents outside of the SEC. I think we need to be patient because DD time will come and when that happens, we need her at her best.

I'm with you. The exhibition game against an overmatched team doesn't really say much. I remember after last year's exhibition run, I was convinced that Nia Moore and Alexa Middleton would be stars right from tipoff. That didn't quite happen, so I'm going to hold off until they start playing better competition. However, it IS promising to see Carter take 14 shots and shoot a high percentage. Hopefully, that carries over to the tougher games as well.

I think the sooner DD gets on court, the better. While they won't need her against overmatched cupcakes, getting her on the court and used to playing games with her teammates (and vice vera) will be extremely important for team chemistry.

after more than 2 hours on the phone with Direct TV last night, I was able to reset my contact info and password. That was what was keeping me from being able to see the SEC+ replays online.

Was able to see the exhibition game replayed last night. IMHO Dunbar is improved 500%. She was excellent, although the comp was VERY poor. No reason to doubt that she will play just as well against better competition.

She is our TRUE 3 point shooter for sure, and when we are needing a shooter from the outside, she needs to be in. Bottom Line!
