Game Thread: Lady Vols vs. Carson-Newman (Exhibition),,,At 6:30 p.m. Monday (tonight) at Food City Center...formerly TBA

Take the orange glasses off. Everyone who got on the court played horrible defense, all had to chase from behind, could not at any time stop penetration, didn't play help defense. Pat is rolling over in her grave, horrible coaches team. This game tells a little t about this team as it does every year. National team will smoke UT.

Let’s see …. Almost 7000 post and about 1000 likes !!!!!! This tells me all I need to know about this person ! I’ll put them in the NEGAVOLS FILE along with DARTH and a few others ……. People PLEASE DON’T Comment to these posts …… so they can talk to themselves! I know they won’t go away but let’s limit their participation! Thanks 😈

Just wasnt to add one thing about the defense since everyone (including Kellie) is a little worried about it based on last night's game.

When was the last time a Lady Vol squad DIDN'T kinda struggle against a much smaller team?! And especially this early in the season.

It seems to me that these tiny, quick teams always give us problems on D, and then we play a South Carolina or a Stanford or an LSU and we hang with them just fine.

Bottom line, for me anyway, is I'm not worried about it -- yet. I never look at the first few getting-their-bearings-type early games as much of an indicator except for seeing some of the obvious improvements -- like with Wynn.

I believe our defense will be stout when it really needs to be, and Kellie will have a roster absolutely FULL of really good players who can help on both ends. I'm excited to see how they progress because I get a sense they could be a special group.

People who struggle with self-worth get there supposed self-worth by demeaning people they can never be. There are 3 on this site like that.... And then there's the flip-flopper negavols who are real fans but use the occasional "shock remark" so they can turn around and give a compliment so they can hear how supportive they CAN BE. (We have a few like that here)

It is up to each poster/reader to decide which is which

Likes v posts is not always the indicator as the one you mentioned has 5452 posts and 7985 likes...But I would guess that most of those likes comes from the other two of his trio

Don’t rely on her scoring consistently, she will have her moments but she will not be a consistent scorer against elite teams.
Players do grow and improve year over year. The challenge for her has been confidence. Every player has good and bad games but I wouldn’t write her consistency off based on a rough sophomore year.

Kaiya Wynn. I am so darn proud of her and how she is moving and carrying herself with so much more confidence and skill this year. And she's just getting started. Wynn easily could have given up and transferred out, but she stuck it out, obviously worked hard, and she looks great!

IMO she also very well could become that defensive stopper we need.

There were so many more positives it would take all night to type, so I'll just say this game made me very happy and got me even more excited about the season. And yes, I know "it was just Carson-Newman," but C-N, as always, is a well-coached team and they fight. They really are a great warm-up game for everyone to get some of the nerves out of the way.

Speaking of nerves, I suspect Ace Strickland was probably the most nervous player in the building. Can you imagine growing up in Knoxville going to Lady Vol games, dreaming of being a Lady Vol then not having that dream come true at first and then suddenly IT DOES and you finally walk out onto that court named "The Summitt," with a former HS teammate as an opponent, all your old friends and family in the stands, and NOT being a nervous wreck? lol

I look forward to watching her this season.

Jackson is Jackson -- fantastic. Puckett was great. Powell was great. Wells was great. Jillian shooting threes! Striplin's power underneath is going to be a problem for most opponents. Both Darbys -- yes! Tamari had moments when I know she must have been thinking, "I've still got it, by gawd!" What a joyous surprise it was to see her out there.

Fun game. I can't wait until Sunday! Obviously a team of professional players are likely to beat our amateurs, but I hope our team can at least give them a scare.
Could not agree more about Wynn!! The potential has always been there and she has obviously worked very hard. My dream is Kellie pulls Kaiya aside and says “see that girl, don’t let her get the ball.” With an improved shooting touch her minutes should definitely go up.

Let me go ahead and get Sunday's thread started (noting that we are playing the best players in the world this game):
We can't play defense - they made us look horrible - Our shooting is pathetic - Pat would have won by 20, terrible coaching - going to be long year
Miss anything ?
You covered it all except we need to fire Kellie. Which is usually the ending.

Good, this team will lose to LSU and South Carolina(twice), at Ole Miss, at Georgia and at Texas A&M. Will struggle to win 20 games.

I would like to withdraw my invitation to lunch, perhaps after the season is complete.

I re-watched the game and was really impressed by how Powell was consistently heading toward the lane as shots went up to go after rebounds instead of just leaking back. I think she has made up her mind to be one of the players who will grab the boards that Walker went after in her time, and this is an outstanding development.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. Apparently none of these people have ever watched a Pat summitt coached game in the first four to five games of the season. Pat's teams were not very good coming out of the gate year over year and did not look very good. I think Pat liked it that way. This gave her ammunition, film tape and the motivational tools she needed to get her best players up to speed for when it counted. Everyone analyzing this preseason exhibition game with more than 2 grains of salt is just silly.

Their milkshake is better than ours?

Just finished watching the replay. My only thoughts after watching is that we are in for a LONG year. That was painful.

Watching the replay.. I keep rewinding to see the moments when Destinee Wells and Kaiya Wynn checked in the game.

The offensive execution and ball pressure from Destinee Wells, and the athleticism displayed by Kaiya Wynn was as good as a display of basketball that I’ve seen in an exhibition game to start this season.

Tennessee is definitely a Top 10 basketball team right now to start the season. This performance came without a single minute being played by elite transfer G Jewel Spear.

I would be okay with the LVs being an unstoppable offensive juggernaut this season, even if that means being a bit shaky on defense. Kellie could instill a new motto when she raises banner #9 - scoring at least 110 points a game wins championships.

Funny how u can’t say someone is missing layups on here, but I see some of u bash Angel Reese and others all the time. If this is a place that u only like positive things said and nothing negative, u all should do that for everyone. Let’s see how long that lasts now.

This is a Tennessee Forum afterall, not an LSU one. I too agree some players on our team should not see the floor much, but we will have a solid unit that will play competitive with any team out there. I think people are taking way too much from an exhibition game. Our defense wasn’t great but some have to realize our best defenders will be on the court for majority of the time in big games. Plenty of time to clean things up. Luckily, basketball is a long season. Go Lady Vols!!

I want the best for this team, just like we all do, I’ll always call it like I see it, and will support this team no matter what happens. I just don’t like the sensitive people that cry every time someone says a player needs to improve on something.

So long as she's not giving up fast-break opportunities at the other end of the floor when we miss...
