Game Thread: Lady Vols vs. Carson-Newman (Exhibition),,,At 6:30 p.m. Monday (tonight) at Food City Center...formerly TBA

Have to be happy with the point guard position putting up 29 points tonight. Two guard not so much had an off night Jewel will cure that when she gets back. All other positions about what you would expect.
Spears at the 2 does solve that minor issue….I thought the LV’s had a good showing while letting everyone play a bunch.

Agree! If she can score consistently, she will get A LOT of minutes, and deservedly so. Especially with her rebounding.
Don’t rely on her scoring consistently, she will have her moments but she will not be a consistent scorer against elite teams.

Sara Puckett was outstanding offensively and rebounding. Jill made some nice mid-range shots. She used her size well to contest on close outs and is as versatile as any big with the ability to handle the basketball full court.
Kaiya Wynn and Jasmine Powell looked sharp overall. Both have improved their games.
Rickea Jackson, Destinee Wells, Jewel Spear, and Tamari Key as the season progresses can take get this team to another gear and a championship.

Wells is one of the best PGs in the country. Shes always been a Power 5 talent.. this ability will carry over into the season and now the LVs have elite skill and playmaking at the guard positions with Destinee, Jewel, and an emerging athlete in Kaiya Wynn.

Wynn is a remarkably skilled athlete.
Got to give her some opportunities to grow this season.

Tuned into game in last half and was looking to see how the "spear " played and I did not see her .Is she hurt ?

But she can be. Sara is gifted offensively with her body type, coupled with her shooting touch! In the right offense, she can flourish.
If we can get her open 3’s consistently, with Rickea and Hollingshead demanding double teams, and she can make most of them, I think that’s all we can ask for. The same with Darby as well. But neither can really take anyone off the dribble.

Not off the dribble in open court, but Sara can do that in the paint and she doesn’t need a ton of room to get off her 3. No worries on Sara scoring and rebounding, have to watch her matchup defensively, same with Tess, probably being too critical at this point, both look much improved.

I think Jill will be fine, as for Wells I’ll have a better assessment after the FSU, Indiana and Notre Dame games.

I would say don’t look too much into this game because they were undersized and not athletic. Let’s see how things go against FSU first and go from there.

People don’t watch basketball no more they just search social media and listen to sports media hype.
It doesn’t matter about the final score of an exhibition game lets be forreal and end that conversation now.
Tennessee’s top two transfers have both competed against top Power 5 competition as 3 year starters!
Belmont with Destinee Wells as a sophomore nearly eliminated Tennessee in the NCAA tourney two years ago, plus has played and defeated major P5 schools during Wells career as a starting PG.
Wells has the skills to end this season as one of the top if not the best true PG in the country.
Jewel Spear hasn’t played yet but she comes to the SEC as the former ACC leading scorer and gives this team three elite scorers/playmakers offensively in Rickea, Destinee, and Jewel.
Tennessee can stretch the floor and run the offense down low through strong post players in Jillian, Rickea, and TK.
Spear has a knack for making big shots and is an efficient & gifted passer.
At this point, it is not about what any other team has or does in WCB it will come down to if this team can stay healthy or even start the season healthy.
They can matchup with and beat any team with this roster. I feel good about this season. It’s going to be an exciting and tough season.. I wouldn’t want it any other way.

No question, Wells can ball. We already know Spears can also, so point well taken. Powell looks good also at the guard position, so that is a strong 3 player rotation at the 1 and 2 spots, no doubts from anyone I would imagine. Looks like RJ will play some 3, maybe a lot, she is almost unguardable at that spot and I have to say Jill is a legit top 3-4 post player in the SEC right now if my guess is correct.

Sara might have turned the corner from her soph slump, if so watch out imo, have always admired her game when she can knock down her shots. Strip is Strip, good teammate and solid contributor but the ”Key” is getting TK back close to 100%, UT is gonna need her in the big games esp on defense…..esp there

This might be a really big year at UT, I could see it if the defense tightens up, so many weapons on offense. I doubt you see much of Wynn or Ace in the big games, but I could be wrong, Wynn had a big night against CN but will KH play her much against top competition? Because that would make Powell, Spear or Wells sit at the least and I think those three will be staples on the court. Wells is really good and we know what Spears will do. CKH seems to have a soft spot for Tess, so she is likely a starter going fwd, not sure if that is the right move, she is improved but still not above average defensively (being generous) and if you review her offensive stats vs the good defensive teams it becomes a struggle to understand her minutes, but I may be just off here and missing something.

How many points should CN have scored tonight in your opinion?

A lot less than 72...
