Game Thread Lady Vols vs Florida

I don't get Nared getting so many minutes...Graves...lacks toughness, but I think it can be turned around.

If this is all we can get out of Graves and Russell, it's going to be a long season.

I hate to speculate but based on what I saw tonight I wonder if the problem in Chapel Hill has relocated to Knoxville?

There is a reason why none of the other Tar Heels (who left when Diamond did) wanted to join her at Tennessee. One year as her teammate was enough for them. Could it be the same reason why no one in the class of 2016 has committed to play at Tennessee?

I just saw the replay... This was a ugly game and this is going to be a ugly SEC run... I hate when my fav team loses but when they should have been making smart plays everyone tried to become the hero...

I can't believe so many of you think this is a player problem...

I agree with you. Since Holly and her assistants lead the lv's great players come to UT and become mediocre, Players are beginning to know that and don't want to be coached by Holly or her staff.

I can't believe so many of you think this is a player problem...
I think the reason why some might believe it's at least partially a player problem is because the same coach and her assistants took a badly depleted LV team (no Harrison, Russell, etc...) to a tie for first in the SEC and to the elite 8 in the NCAA's. Those girls, while not as talented (And yes, having similar problems on offense as this year's team), played their hearts out. Do you see this year's LV's achieving the same results as last year ?
There's a lot that can be pointed at as being the coaches fault but the players should shoulder at least some of the responsibility for their horrid play.

I believe it is a player problem in part (30%-40%) because after a defensive rebound in the 3rd Quarter I looked up at the screen and all five Florida defenders were in the front court along with T'ea Cooper who was pushing the ball up the court (perhaps in unadvisedly so but I digress). The camera zooms out and all the remaining four gals on our team were trotting up the floor--still in the backcourt. No sense of urgency to say hey maybe I should sprint back in case she throws up a clunker to get a rebound. That's on the players and its on the coaches for either (1) failing to motivate them to give their all or (2) failing to instill a sense of punishment for not giving your all.

I would have called a timeout and put all four of them on the bench.

I think the young lady is talented, I think she is still hurt, I don't think she used to playing with so many low iq players, so the road ahead of her is arduous, and when she looks around that there aren't any other scorers on the team. She is going to be targeted by multiple defenders every game, which takes some adjusting too.

Some of her turnover tonite , passes were spot on if she was playing with high bball iq players, you saw her frustration, them not being in right spot, so she took upon herself to take over, on an off shooting night. Her team gave up on her tonite, Graves didn't tank it but was noticeably frustrated, agitated all night. The players looked like if she wants to do by it all herself, she don't need me, hey let's let her do it then. She not going to follow the scanner report, then I don't have too. And that what it looked like tonite. She wanted to be showtime but her game was No Time!

Hopefully, she is competitive enough and coachable enough to figure it out. YOu can tell she wanted it bad tonite, but she did it at expense of the team, the win. And that's what you don't want as a coach. And that's a tough position to be in a coach.

Diamond took us off course tonite, shredded the scanner report and we lost and Draya and Graves allowed it to happen.

WTH is a scanner report?

The problem is two fold. The players are not coachable and the coaches are not holding the players accountable. Its respect for the coaches and discipline from the coaches and neither is being implemented.

I know who I would want to replace CHW.....................

Pat4Life or Armchair because they sure think they have all the answers. I do believe storm clouds are gathering and Holly has never been the answer. Time for a change. Clean house, All in for Brenda Freese. Tyler Summitt would be a disaster.

Plus 15 in shots last night should have been a win. If you get 82 shots and make 40 percent and 4 are threes that is 70 points then you add the 16 free throws and that is 86. A team shooting 30 percent can't win basketball games so they either have to find a way to get that percentage up over 40 percent or they will keep losing in the SEC. 40 is not a fantastic percentage but this team forces enough turnovers and gets enough free throws to make it work in the SEC and they would win most of the remaining games. If they shoot 30 they could lose to Arkansas.

I don't think cos she lost four games, that she needs to get fired, Holly will be fine, I hope she leans on former players more, they have to hear from those who have been there and done that. Holly is fine. I think she will figure it out, I love her demeanor and tone in the post game interview. She knows what needs to be done. Let's see if she gets it done.

We are not that good right now, the tug of war between player's will vs coach's will. Each lost this year, she didn't lose the game by her coaching, her players lost the game with their poor effort. If they played the way Holly wants, it would be like the first quarter all the time but that's too tough.

Holly should not be fired, there shouldn't be any discussions of her getting fired. I think she is the best coach for the Lady Vols right now and in the forseeable future.

Let's see how her and team responds... dang!

If they hit 50% of their layups last nite they win by 14 points.Holly can not shoot the ball for them but I would expect that she insists on players shooting layup after layp in practice under extreme duress. There is just no excuse to miss wide open one foot shots.

Dave Hart will never pay for Brenda Frese. That ship has sailed. But, there are a lot of up and comers who would be drastically better than Holly.

Who? Frese hate the lady vols mind you. She wont even schedule us. Oh that's a great hire. wuteva.

But didn't Holly beat her last year to get to the Elite 8 hmmmmmmm. How many final fours has she been too? How many elite 8? How many sweet 16?

Can they at least finish season better than our current coach? ijs

Yes, she's upset, its almost boiling over, u fidget, you can't focus, you can't think, you're so upset. I get it. lol Her team just took the night off, then she has to talk to us. You are so furious. She's mad ass hell. You really think Holly wants her team to perform that way at home. No..... at home. She was mad at hell.

Yes, I love it she's calling em out! If we play with effort, we're a final four team. She knows that, the staff knows that. The player knows that, but they are not doing it, consistently.

Holly will be fine. I think she will figure out!

But in no ways, she's a bad coach.

But forealtho. Name a coach with a better resume as a candidate, who would seriously considering taking this job.

wuteva... Holly get tougher.

the Lady Vols were ripe for plucking! Coming off a "big" road win. Everyone loading up on the bandwagon, Florida missing a coach, big easy 1st quarter against a team they've beaten like a rug for decades.

That is when you need a coach that can hold them to the fire.

Holly didn't see the problem coming, took too long during the game then made the wrong corrections when she did.

Any and all criticism must start at those in charge of decision making before putting it on the players... imho
