Game Thread Lady Vols vs Georgia

So does it really matter if you are a two seed or three seed since you play the other seed anyway. You don't want to be a four 2 or 3 is no difference.

It matters in the sense of where the team falls on the list of 2s and 3s, because that can determine whether or not UT is seeded in Albany or Spokane (or elsewhere). No one wants to be seeded in the UConn Invitiational region and have to play a de facto away game against them to reach the Final Four - why would anyone want that?

I like Russell off the dribble don't know why we haven't got her the ball on the sides more and let her make that drive. I didn't realize she could handle that well.

Glad to hear they won and did some things well, hated to hear about the amount of turnovers again!! Need to clean that up real quick, especially before both tournaments!
Congrats on the win ladies.!

I hope were a two but I think were going to lose at Missouri like SC did and that will settle our seeding. They don't turn it over much like Georgia did today will probably have a clear advantage in shots to the basket so we'll have to out shoot them to win if we get less shots like we do most games we play.

If Russelll plays defense today, the rest of the way, we will go a long way in the NCAA. I was proud, and as I said, not surprised we won by double digits. Would have liked to see a little more offense. The defense was very good. Great Job Lady Vols!!!

We played pretty good defense in the first half and rebounded well, but other than that, our play wouldn't have defeated a decent team. 27 TO's, yikes! The refs gave us 30 FT's, but we only managed to hit 18 of them. We need to turn it up about 4 notches, or we could end the season with 2 or 3 more losses.

We should and of course not a certainty beat Bama and Florida no reason to lose to either of those teams. I'm calling Missouri a loss.
SC is at home we'll have to play well to beat them they have Wilson back. 27 turnovers we'll lose that game.

Ranked 235 in turnovers, averaging 16.7/ game before today. It doesnÂ’t appear to be a point of interest given itÂ’s Feb 11. This is going to be difficult to overcome against good teams in the tournaments.

I am afraid we lose 2 of the next 4 and would not surprise me to lose 3. Just so erratic all over the floor. no bb iq and the last shot for us means who ever shoots it and without even knowing time left on the clock. Either HW teaches this or don't care. I do believe once today she wanted it held and the player let it fly early to give up a score on the other end. JMHO:mf_surrender:

Up to 17.1 soon we'll lead the nation.

Florida gave SC all it wanted in their game today. Florida's win/loss record doesn't tell the whole story about them. I was impressed w/Florida today in how they played.

The high rate of LVs turnovers are due to fact that Holly lacks the toughness to demand or enforce discipline on her freshmen players. The vast majority of the turnovers are committed by the freshmen.

They are streaky, though. I saw them play Miss State, and it was brutal.

They have that Australian guard who is a streaky shooter. If she's hitting from outside, it could be tough. But Tennessee should win easily. They don't have physical inside players.

Miss State does that to a lot of the teams they play as you well know. We'll see I guess. Don't get me wrong as I hate Florida in all their sports teams & I'm not defending them either but Florida has some tall lanky players & good re-bounders + shooters. It should be another close game for TN. SC only won by 7 points today over Florida & they were playing at home too.

Nice win today!

My biggest concern is that it was pointed out that Mercedes was regularly asking, "What are we running?!" On the one hand it's fantastic that Russell is a vocal floor leader, but it is likely pretty frustrating to her to have to remind the guards to do something so fundamental as letting everyone know what offense they're running.

Georgia's a decent team so the Lady Vols can be proud of hanging tough and getting a blowout win against them

I also noticed at one timeout that it looked like Holly may have been blessing them out! Tge TV shot was of the back of her head, but it kinda felt like maybe she was getting on them. Hope so!

I thought I heard MR telling the 4 on the floor with her at one time to "do something" She was at the top of the circle with the ball and the rest were statues! :(

That turnover number is just terrible, plain and simple. I don't see how a competent coach cannot do something to lower it. If it were me, they'd run every time a turnover happened in practice and afterwards in a game. If it were a bad turnover, I'd sit the player immediately. I hate watching them be so lax with the ball.

I really think the turnover number is a reflection of CHW's competence and ability to inspire great basketball from her players. It is just so disheartening to see.

As MR can maneuver to score from outside the paint, forcing the ball into her is just not smart basketball.

Taking open shots is a good sign!

It's looking like TOs are going to be an ongoing issue this year. The majority of TOs come from the FR-- 17 from Westbrook, Hayes, Davis and KK. Russell and Nared had only four combined.

We needed the W and we got it. IMO, we'll have to win out to move up to a 2 seed. More likely, we'll be fighting to hang on to a 3 seed, with the games we have left.

A 3 seed and in the same bracket as Uconn. Haven't some on this forum been dying to see the team face off against Uconn?

Good thing you are not the coach. You would have a team terrified to take any risk and a lot of injured players.
