Game Thread Lady Vols vs Georgia

A 3 seed and in the same bracket as Uconn. Haven't some on this forum been dying to see the team face off against Uconn?

Let's be real. We are gonna get friggin murdered by UCONN....if we get that far. Everybody will be fine with it though...cuz it's UCONN.

Talent wise I don't think we are that far away from UCONN...but coaching wise....and discipline wise (which is a reflection of coaching)...we are worlds apart.

Ranked 235 in turnovers, averaging 16.7/ game before today. It doesn’t appear to be a point of interest given it’s Feb 11. This is going to be difficult to overcome against good teams in the tournaments.

Turnovers do not appear to have been a point of interest for the last six years. A lot of the turnovers are a lack of judgement. You simply do not try to throw a bounce pass to a player that is double covered.

Apparently one of the announcers on Sunday had talked to Holly and Holly told her that now days you have to coach effort. Apparently Holly does not think a coach should have to coach effort. It is not like the old days players are different. It has become more of an I thing. Many players sign with a school and if they don’t start or feel they are not on a championship caliber team, they transfer. Many players are only interested in putting in the amount of effort that they deem is necessary. I agree with Holly, you can’t coach effort, it has to be demanded.

Holly stating you can't coach effort? How would she know did she try and fail? The first words out of her mouth after a loss and there's been many are 'I don't Know'. I tend to believe her.

You guys know there is word on facebook they use for you guys called negvols LOL> we won by 16 and blew them out all game and you guys will find something to have an issue with . LOL you are too funny.

Just before the half, we failed to run down the clock and gave Georgia a rebound basket.

That is one of the things that really upsets me and gets me riled up about this team. They have ZERO clock management skills. When you are up like that and have the chance to take the last shot, you HAVE to do it. There is no reason to take a shot (especially a forced shot) that early. Should shoot at the buzzer so there is no way your opponent can score.

How are people complaining about turnovers negavols? You do realize we've lost games because of that, right. The turnover problems has gotten worse, because we turn it over in bunches and lose whatever rhythm we've gotten into. And the UGA could've definitely been another lose if Georgia could have it a layup. They missed over 15 lay ins, they were getting to the basket at ease. Also, we were lucky they couldn't hang on to the ball after stealing it. But hey, we got the we win that's that matters right!

Actually,Mamba, winning is what matters. An ugly win is much better than any loss. Looking good does not improve a team's ranking after a loss. But ,if you check one of the other threads, our Ladies are comparative to some other Lady Vol teams on turnovers. I do agree that the players should try to cut down on the turnovers but still play aggressively.

Yes we won by 16 to a team we should have beaten by 30. Our big negative is we play down to our competition. If we continue to play in this manner, we will have a very short stay in the NCAA’s. The plus 20 turnovers is a hugh negative. No one knows for sure if Holly tried and failed when she tried to coach effort, however, since she complains about the team’s effort, there must be a perceived failure somewhere. Why is she as a coach being negative about her players’ effort? Just maybe she needs to look into the mirror and realize that maybe she is the issue.

Last time I checked, Missouri was getting a lot of effort from their players against Arkansas.

Missouri beat Arkansas by 26 on their home court we struggled to get a five point win. Missouri looks like they will beat us by at least 10 when we play there because I doubt we give the effort on the road to make it a game.

CHW stated that they're going to lose some games. I wonder if Missouri is one of those games?

Either way what a defeatist statement for her to make.

Going forward, I would like to see London, KK and Dunbar in the game early to give the starters a breather. Sure, they may make mistakes and you may lose the game but it could reap benefits in the sec and Ncaa tournaments.

And if that happened, there would be a flood of comments condemning Holly for making such poor line-up decisions.

It would mean that they are up big and can afford it. The bench needs minutes. But to get PT, the starters have to build a big enough lead that the subs can take over. Maybe not against Mizzou or SC, but if Tennessee has close games vs Florida and Alabama where the starters need to play 35 minutes, then it will be the same playing down to competition that has plagued them too often against bad teams.

🤔 so when she made that statement it was in reference to growing pains and she didn’t think they were going undefeated. Let’s get real when Te’a transferred, AM transferred, and Diamond decided not to return 99% of the fans thought this could be a rough season as we were going to have to depend heavily on Freshman and people who haven’t played prominent roles before. Geno has stated the same thing! He said it last year that he didn’t think they were very good and was surprised at how their record turned out and that was throughout the year and he kept predicting a loss it just so happened to come later in the final four.

The poster said early in the game. Also, Holly gave minutes to subs when they were up big against Texas A&M and I seem to recall some condemnation for that.

KK got 10 minutes against UGA, KD 6, Green 4 and Harris 2. Hayes played 23 minutes to EW's 20. Maybe we can get KK, KD and Green up to 10 minutes against Bama, but it's possible Bama could play us a lot closer than we'd like and JN and MR will log a lot of minutes. It's looking like the PGs will continue to split minutes.

Let's be clear :that statement clearly shows that Holly can't coach because it lowered expectations; however, if she had not made that statement, it would have also shown that Holly can't coach because she would have been setting expectations too high for the freshman.

Remember we start with the premise that Holly can't coach, then we simply reason backwards to justify it. Beat the number 2 team in the SEC by 20, Holly can't coach because it should have been 40 and so on.

If the LVs win the NC, it is proof that Holly can't coach because the player did it despite her and she should have won 6 NC by now.
