Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs LSU ; Sun Feb 9th ; Away game; 4 PM Eastern: ESPN

Do I need to retype the same words for you, or what? What I wrote was very clear. Keep up.

The "we have inferior talent" argument would check out with me if we lost these games by double digits, but as the lower third indicated earlier in the fourth quarter, no other team in the past 25 years has lost this many close games by such a small margin. Kim deserves a lot of credit, but these games all seem to feature notable miscues on both sides of the ball down the stretch.
So you've totally eliminated the possibility of a great coach taking players who should lose by 20 and has us in almost every game? What an odd perspective.

Oh well, great game. Back to "close but no cigar " I love that our team is never out of it and never gives up. And for sure the LVs are the pain in the ass team no one wants to play.

At some point, hopefully this yr, we have to clean up those same things we talk about everytime this happens.

Balanced by the UConn win, I don't think we'll be hurt much in polls. But this loss probably closes the door on finishing 4th in the SEC and getting the double bye. KY would have to totally collapse to match our 6 losses.

We can’t guard the ball against any team with a modicum of athleticism. This team is in a competition with last year’s to be the worst defensive team in school history.
This has gone on for several yrs and happens with very athletic same as non athletic players. Must be something in the water in the practice facility.
she is paying for the sins of coaching staffs past and their lack of recruiting, well, actually, the idea that they would rather have 3* heart instead of 5* talent
Not so much would rather have the heart players, that's just what she was able to recruit. She tried for the others. Also, just before that Holly recruited a bunch of 4 and 5 *s and everyone complained they had no heart. And many didn't.
They aren’t as good as the record says.
Yeah but they find a way to win all their close games. This is what we have to learn.

Well, here we are again. I guess maybe it's growing pains for a first-year coach, but to lose so many games with razor-thin margins is really a head scratcher for me. I can't help but feeling like we shot ourselves in the foot in about half of our losses.

I love the effort and it's a really exciting team with a lot of potential, but we make it so hard for ourselves.
I really think this team ahead of schedule and expectations and just doesn't always have enough to carry it over the finish line. Future is incredibly bright if this is where the team is at now, knocking at the doorstep of the top tier. Call it a moral victory if you want, but less than a year into this project, I'll take it. GLV!

I think that great coach would probably be offended by your take on her players. It's sad to see our own fans denigrating them.

They've proven there's not a single team out there they can't hang with. Minimizing mistakes will put them over the top.

We made 1 more bucket than they did. They beat us at the free throw line and we turned it over more than usual But the dumb refs called us for walking 4 times that was not a walk. We're getting closer every game. GLV 💥

What did i say you disagree with?

I was actually in Barclays cheering for my LadyVols against Iowa.

Nobody asked.

Missed Spencer‘s today. They are bigger and athletic making it harder for her. They also handled pressure well.

They aren’t bigger. Spencer just had a quiet night. Maybe she wasn’t feeling her best but this just wasn’t her game at all.

LSU took two more free throws than the LV's did, but they made 7 more. The reason for the loss is LSU had 6 less turnovers and took 12 more fga's. That last number is a stat that we usually dominate in.
I still believe, however, our FT shooting and several missed layup made the difference in this game. GBO.

A shame they didn't have an A game today, but to almost trip up LSU on their court is a sign they're still on the path to improving. "I don't coach effort." Wasn't that something Pat said? Well, you don't have to coach effort with this bunch. Loads of room to improve, no quit in them. I can't get down about how they've done so far this year, and I can't understand the people that do. They're definitely on their way up.

Latham was 22% of our rebounds while only being 8% of our player-minutes. If she had been a starter, we win today by denying LSU second-chance points (16 of their 82) and getting more second-chance points ourselves. (only had 11)

And if Hollingshead didn't get 4 fouls in 7 minutes of play, I think we win.

At the very least, the first part is a possible lesson that coach could learn from. Latham played so well in the 1st that she should have been in the primary 5 in the 2nd. If you have a starting 5 that's getting outrebounded, you must swap in a rebounder. Playing Latham only six 2nd half minutes was a mistake.

Does somebody else want to start game threads so we don't have to see all the pompous garbage?

Agreed. FT shooting and several missed layups doomed the LVs. Yet, great game and they should win the next six games. I think the LVs will get at least a 4 seed in the NCAAT. GBO.

If we win the next 6 games we will ironically have the same conference record as last season. Much more positive aura about this team however.

Need to do better hitting free throws, for sure. Otherwise, they are a playing right there with the best.
That’s fair. I’m not used to women’s basketball, but I thought I saw some people lost in transition defense that led to easy baskets for LSU.
