Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs LSU ; Sun Feb 9th ; Away game; 4 PM Eastern: ESPN

Let’s compare traveling calls, offensive fouls, contact at the rim with no calls, etc.

Take the one they called on our steal at half court attempt where we never gained possession, but Dee gleefully called one anyway, contrasted with having to watch the half court shot replay where even the announcers pointed out 4 steps. No review necessary with a fair whistle.

LSU made a bunch of great plays, but still might not have won with a REASONABLY even whistle. Sadly we can never know.

No such thing as a moral victory, but this one goes into the immoral loss category. Not a small list for more than just UT.

Maybe in the tournament we can get an even whistle, even if poorly called.

Calls like that are why it’s imperative we win at home. Just not gonna get those on the road in the sec. Especially Tennessee.

We are 23 games into the season, how much improvement can one reasonably expect from here to end of season? It's not like we are getting a player back that is injured so we are dealing with the hand we have. Probably just comes down to match ups for the rest of season. Against athletic teams it will be a struggle and 50-50 whether LVs win or lose.
I see growth from the players,,,BUT I must see more growth from the bench

I can't wrap my head aound folks who actually believe the refs job the Vols, in every sport, every single game. If refs are crooked, you'd think they'd change up teams to cheat for just to keep the public off balance. Do you really think it's personal against the Vols with every single ref and ref organization in the world? Are we that important?
There were a few questionable calls but it went both ways but we need to make free throws we were 13-20 while lsu was 20-22

I have always refrained from making this same post after reading EVERY post game thread, because I always knew it would invoke wrath, but there is 100% truth in what you just posted.

Yeah, every fan feels like it is the refs against their team every game, its normal .

Latham was 22% of our rebounds while only being 8% of our player-minutes. If she had been a starter, we win today by denying LSU second-chance points (16 of their 82) and getting more second-chance points ourselves. (only had 11)

And if Hollingshead didn't get 4 fouls in 7 minutes of play, I think we win.

At the very least, the first part is a possible lesson that coach could learn from. Latham played so well in the 1st that she should have been in the primary 5 in the 2nd. If you have a starting 5 that's getting outrebounded, you must swap in a rebounder. Playing Latham only six 2nd half minutes was a mistake.
I agree to a point but a lot of rebounds, especially the 1st quarter they got for 2nd chance points. They were long carom rebounds picked up by guards. I remember getting frustrated, play pretty good D then watching what I call lucky long rebounds.

As dangerous as we'll be next season with our new recruits, we absolutely cannot keep giving up all these free throws. It has literally been the difference in most of our losses, and needs to be priority going forward.

Based on your previous comments I assume you mean the coaches, correct? Lazo seems to have some fire to him but not sure it is in Caldwell's or Burdette's DNA to get after refs.
zackly

players have improved and transitioned,,,coaches have to too!
It's not Jenna's job to do that, it is Kims!
That pissed off mom look gets no attention from a ref

NOT once the whole game did I see Kim fight for her girls.
We don't need Holly/Kellie 2.0...we need a fighter
she has it in her, I;ve seen it in practice clips

I can see the logic in that. Maybe we are what we are.

OTOH, if we're getting this freaking close aren't there things they can see on tape and work on? We don't look very good on late game plays, ball tends to stick in someone's hands who then over dribbles and we get a bad shot. That seems fixable.

The LVs are causing these close games bc they play so hard and competitively and are able to cause turnovers when most teams who are 8 pts behind have started dialing it in. But then they don't have the talent, poise or coaching direction to finish the wild comebacks off. Doesn't seem that far off though.

Fair point, always hard to tell when the light will come on for a player or a collective team. I don't think we are far from being a much more competitive team if we can just tweak our approach in a couple of areas and stop making the same mistakes we have made all year.

Constant theme for the past 4 weeks. So CKC isn’t up to your standards in handling the refs. OK, but some may see it differently. Not knocking heads here, but her style is not unlike many other successful men’s and women’s coaches in history, maybe she knows a way to do it differently than yours.

I think she is doing great so far, in all regards.

Rough break again, many mistakes that we didn’t need to make.

But I’ll take as many of these games as possible if we want to make it to the latter rounds of the NCAA
One thing about it. I’ll bet few teams will be as battle tested as the Lady Vols when it comes tournament time!!

All day they have called a fast whistle on that and Mule face gets the time out
Then the foul on the last shot we take , instead of a jump ball they call a foul . Why even play the game knowing the refs will make sure you don't win.

Ole Miss and Bama won’t be easy despite being at home. We must win both if we don’t want the game in Lexington to become a must win.
Agree, but I think we beat both OM and Bama. KY will be the big game. Won't matter much for SEC standings, we're going to end up 6-8 depending on some other teams and miss the double bye in the SEC touney.

But we may need the win over a ranked KY team to secure a host spot. We don't want to go into the SEC tourney needing a certain number of wins to get to host. I'm worried about our legs in a 3 games in 3 days format.

Yep, IMO 99.9% of refs are trying the best they can, to call is as fair as possible. They are all human and if a HC is a well-known name HC vs a nobody or a newcomer, the human nature aspect on the 50/50 calls that could go either way goes to the alpha HC. It's just human side of us in the ref basically protecting themselves from any backlash. It's not planned they do it instinctively. JMO

I think she gets on them in a way that doesn't call them out or embarrass them. You don't have to scream and yell at them to get your point across. With that said sometimes you do need to come unglued on them and get the technical to fire up your kids.
