Spearman got called for a foul earlier in the game for hooking her defender.the very same call. This time it's called a foul on Jewel. Just call the game the same for both teams.

this is why I am not pleased with Kim in regards to working the refs...SHe has to defend her players...Like her, or not, Kim Mulkey shows elation, anger and will back a zebra down,,,this is why she is elite.

Kim Caldwell's sytem is very formidable and will work,,,But when Spear was called for the foul, she went to the ref and told him that she was hooked,,,Coach Kim did nothing...If you expect a "thing" out of your players, you better have that "thing" in you BC it is a well known fact that "teams take on the personality of their coach" and if they look to the coach for that fight and it's not there, they begin to lose their own inner desire to fight...This is showing in Cooper's inconsistency already. Coop has had to find her own switch

This was the mistake that Holly and Kellie, both, made,,,they expected effort, growth and fight but didn't exemplify those qualities

I can't wrap my head aound folks who actually believe the refs job the Vols, in every sport, every single game. If refs are crooked, you'd think they'd change up teams to cheat for just to keep the public off balance. Do you really think it's personal against the Vols with every single ref and ref organization in the world? Are we that important?

Nope, sometimes they do hold grudges when being called out, sometimes they are influenced by the home mmcrowds, sometime they fear some coaches more than others.

Usually the biggest difference is the no calls more than the calls made. Like not calling their world class walk on the buzzer shot, not calling the obvious hook late in the game and worse calling a defensive foul, a no call would have been bad, BUT…

53 got called for a defensive foul under the goal standing with arms up in her cylinder but many of our drivers got worse illegal contact and nada. Based on the other end, we should have had several and ones but they passed.

We are without a doubt upgrading in skill and extremely upgrading in speed...PG will have the toughest transition, but in every other position,,,upgrade!

I have seen most of our recruits in person at the highest level exposure games.

LV starters scored 71 of 77 points while 5 bench players only scored 6 points. With the amount of subbing LVs do that is concerning. One would expect the non-starters to have a larger % of total points scored for mass subbing approach to work consistently. Otherwise, scoring droughts will be an issue.

Interesting point. I feel like this stat is a bit of an outlier. Worth watching though.

We are 23 games into the season, how much improvement can one reasonably expect from here to end of season? It's not like we are getting a player back that is injured so we are dealing with the hand we have. Probably just comes down to match ups for the rest of season. Against athletic teams it will be a struggle and 50-50 whether LVs win or lose.

I see your point but the fact the team is working on a totally new approach makes me think difference making improvement is still very possible.

Always have found Rooster to be totally forthright and earnest about his rooting interests. He was actually trying to tactfully tell you to get over yourself and your constant harping about CKC’s approach to the referees. You should appreciate his approach as others of us will not be as tactful.

I know Rooster. It’s just ridiculous how there are a few posters that just go out of their way to attempt to discredit the incoming players when for years this board focused on elite HS recruiting and elite HS recruiting only.
The moment it happens under a new head coach and staff that has already improved this program tremendously in year 1 now these same posters have doubts lol.
I agree 100% the future is bright in Tennessee.

I think most fans just want it now. Like me I had low expectations for this year but after so many close games with top competition, dang it I just wanna win. Patience is the key, we have solid coach and the future is bright.

i appreciate reading all of the opinions, and some sound pretty solid, but CKC has shown she knows what she is doing. i love those players that stuck with us, but we have about 3 players who are not really cut off for this system. and, we have additional players who are taking up spots for an even deeper/more talented bench. this is year one. i have zero complaints about our coach. she's a couple of close losses away from having a top 5 team. i see a lot of comments that fall into the "i know better" category or just scream nitpicking.

They should call timeouts, the should get a tech, they need to work the refs, CKC should work the refs after Spear. Coach Caldwell is a very successful coach, she is the coach of the most historic program in women's basketball. I think she is doing fine.

So, you're saying she has to try to show up the refs. If I remember the moment correctly it was after one foul call, while the LSU girl was shooting two free throws, Kim took the entire time to make her case to the nearby ref WITHOUT showing them up. It's how you lock it in for the next time that ref calls your game. In my opinion, absolutely brilliant.

It's the go to complaint in every game. Although I truly believe some think it's a agenda vs Tennessee because Sankey doesn't like us in all sports, which is stupid why wouldn't Sankey want every SEC team to do well?

My second favorite is the announcers like they have something to do with the outcome of the game.

I was at the game she was on the refs all game it’s just hard to get calls in that gym both teams were hooking each other the game was just physical…now referring to personality coach seems real level headed like I can’t see her smacking a clipboard out someone’s hand maybe a lil cursing but not that

Found another way to lose a game turnovers. Plus six LSU. They also won the offensive rebounding by the same amount. We shot the ball better but they got 12 extra shots and free throws. Still a good effort by the team. Still have some players trying to do more than they should when they should be passing instead of shooting looking for a better shot than the one they take. Were a really good team whether we can pull it all together is yet to be determined. We have a few times, but we find a way to lose by from one to three possessions in big games most of the time when were playing top teams.

To host we'll have to run the table now can't lose another SEC game. Three straight at home Auburn, Bama, and Ole Miss and none of those will be easy. Trip to Florida and Kentucky back home to end the regular season versus Georgia. Were hosting if we win them all. Were playing on the road in the NCAA if we don't.

If we could win out still have a shot at fourth place in the league. Kentucky would have to lose to Ole MIss, Texas, LSU, and South Carolina and of course Tennessee which would give us the tiebreaker. If we win out and that happens were fourth in the league. Actually sixth is the better place to finish in the league over fifth as I still see SC as the number one seed for the SEC tourney even if the league finishes in a tie. They would have the advantage over either LSU or Texas and only one of them can tie as they have to play each other. LSU SC would have it by beating them. Texas they would have it on points won by 13 lost by 4.

SEC Tourney 2 and 3 look to be LSU and Texas so finishing sixth puts you in that bracket. Of course fourth gives you the two byes. We want fourth or sixth we do not want fifth a really terrible spot for the tourney.

A lot to play for and we need we will be favored in all the remaining games except probably Kentucky.
