Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs LSU ; Sun Feb 9th ; Away game; 4 PM Eastern: ESPN

Well, that’s not what she said, is it? Taking plays off is probably more a function of focus, imo.
As I said in my post (and many other times) I think lack of focus is what she means. I just wish she'd say that. "taking plays off" sounds exactly like voluntary lack of effort. She also said Zee is great for the team "when she decides to put winning above everything else". So sometimes she decides to not put winning for the team first? Why is she still playing?

It's just a me thing. I hate posts on here that accuse the hardest working players the LVs have had in years of being lazy and willfully naughty. Kiim's language reinforces that. IMO it's insulting. I hope the players realize it's just coach speak and she talks to them differently.

Interesting point. I feel like this stat is a bit of an outlier. Worth watching though.
Much has been made about the subbing. In the last several games five players have received the bulk of the minutes. Yesterday, 5 players got 140 minutes for an average if 28 mins each. The range for that group was 24 to 31 (Spencer). 5 players formed the group that got 60 minutes with a range of 7 to 16 mins. Several of the players in the second group have seen their minutes drop over the course of the season. That group is playing in short spurts and maybe having trouble getting into the flow of the game. The second group did get 14 rebounds out of their 60 minutes compared to only 22 for the group with 140. Latham did most of that with 8 rebs in 16 mins. I don't know, just speculating. Not disagreeing with your comment. 6 pts out of 60 mins is meager output and concerning.

If we could win out still have a shot at fourth place in the league. Kentucky would have to lose to Ole MIss, Texas, LSU, and South Carolina and of course Tennessee which would give us the tiebreaker. If we win out and that happens were fourth in the league. Actually sixth is the better place to finish in the league over fifth as I still see SC as the number one seed for the SEC tourney even if the league finishes in a tie. They would have the advantage over either LSU or Texas and only one of them can tie as they have to play each other. LSU SC would have it by beating them. Texas they would have it on points won by 13 lost by 4.

SEC Tourney 2 and 3 look to be LSU and Texas so finishing sixth puts you in that bracket. Of course fourth gives you the two byes. We want fourth or sixth we do not want fifth a really terrible spot for the tourney.

A lot to play for and we need we will be favored in all the remaining games except probably Kentucky.
But now OK is a problem. We need them to lose twice more. They're 5-5 and have the tiebreaker over us. Their remaining schedule is Aub, Missu, Vandy, Arkansas, Florida and Alabama. Basically we need Vandy and Alabama to beat them.

Also, both Ole Miss and Alabama have 4 losses, so we have to beat both (which I think we will) and both would also have to lose one more game. OM still has to play KY (tonight) LSU and So Car as well as us so they're no problem unless they beat us. Alabama still has TAM, us, Aub, LSU and OK.

Vandy has 5 losses but has the tiebreak over us so we need them to lose twice. They still have Ms State, Aub, OK, So Car, TAM, and Missouri. Given they'll lose to So Car, we prrobably have to hope they lose to OK, though that helps OK.

Here's the standings:

Certainly not a great chance and if not hoping for sixth.

It all depends on alot of moving pieces, but ironically if we win out, we very well may be looking at 5th.

We also need Vandy and OK to lose twice since they have tiebreaks over us and they have by far the easiest remaining scheds. Maybe one of them will take the 5 seed.

A good start on it all would be for KY to lose to OM tonight. If they win, KY will be hard to catch as we'd then need them to lose to us, LSU, TX, So Car (likely) and one of either GA or Mizzu (unlikely). Tonight is huge for them and us, it's what makes Feb fun

When Mulkey was younger, her father cheated on her mother, later divorced her, and eventually married a younger woman. This made Kim Mulkey so angry that she never forgave him, and hasn't even spoken to him in close to 40 years. He's 87 years old now, and despite very much wanting to speak to his daughter, she still won't forgive him. She apparently hasn't spoken to her sister in decades, either.

Anybody who holds grudges that deeply, that harshly, and for that long,
may be a bit of a horrid person.

She is wise, it's often best to cut off toxic people, especially if they are family.

Not certain but my guess is the staff really didn't see the immediate need for a small guard and focused on bigger guards and forward type players. Can't take them all got to focus on needs .
You right you right..now I’m wondering did she even attempt to visit because if not what was the point in the quote because apparently we still called

Not a lot of people subscribe to this philosophy.
I think alot of people know it's sometimes the right thing to do to cut people off, but not many (including me) have the guts to actually do so. It's harder than hell and I really admire some people I know who've actually done it. Espec w a child/parent.

Most of all, this seems like the ultimate judge not that ye be not judged situation. We don't know the dynamics nor circumstances None of our collective biz.

'From 'The Art of Building Strawmen for Motivation' by Kim Mulkey. Does this player realize how entitled this makes her sound?

OTOH I guess if they were coming after me with big bags of $ bidding fo my services I be bratty too.

Good chance we passed on her visiting as she was pushed out at Arizona, but I didn't know if it was her or the coach there and still don't although she has supplied some valid information for helping me determine.

Last season we had a quad one record of 6 and 13. We won 20 games and lost 13. Net was 30 and sos was 2. We were a six seed in the NCAA Tourney.

This season we have a 4 and 5 quard one record. Presently 17 and 6 overall. Net is 12 and sos is 14. If we win out see no way we wouldn't be a four seed in the NCAA and play the first two games at home. Difficult by doable home game versus Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Georgia. road to Florida and Kentucky. Only three quad one game left in the regular season we should get at least one and up to three in the SEC Tourney. Win the three were 7 and 5 quad one. Win a couple in the Sec Tourney 9 and 5. Win the Tourney 10 and 5. That would look like a three seed.

Only against us. Announcers brought up during the game she'd been 8-53 fm the field since us the last time. That's what brought up the question, and apparently the answer.
Oh I was at the game didn’t know they said that😅 but I looked up her pts stats well she shot well against us,Stanford, and nc state😂 so she’s only tryna cook us

Why was she benched? And The way the portal is you never know
Coach said at the time she was not a team player. Would not play as requested and so would not be playing. At the time knowing that coach I thought most of it was her and it still might be true. Her program is a revolving door for transfers so evidently she is difficult to play for.

After Arizona’s sweep of the Bay Area schools on Feb. 25, Wildcats’ head coach Adia Barnes said that sometimes there’s “addition by subtraction.” While she was not just speaking about sophomore guard Kailyn Gilbert, Gilbert was obviously part of that statement.

“If you just saw the culture and our chemistry and our cohesiveness, it’s remarkable right now,” Barnes said. “And sometimes throughout the year you have addition by subtraction, and we’ve had that and you know we’ve had to eliminate some things. It has been a tough situation and we are better because of it. Way better. You don’t even understand the difference.”

Gilbert was off the team the next day.
