Game Thread Lady Vols vs Notre Dame

can't hit a layup, too many missed free throws. can't blame that on the coach.

just think of they had hit some layups and made some shots close around the basket, when your within 10 ft of the basket, they should be chip shots and leaving em wide open for the 3s and ND is noted for that this year

Most of our stupid plays and decisions are made by the most experienced players on the team...The things that Simmons and Massengale do drives me freakin nuts..The thing is, they are not afraid to do stupid stuff, because they will not be pulled..When everyone trotted down the court after that steal, I would have put in a new 5..Carter needs to play most of every game, no matter if she scores or not...She gives energy the whole time she is in, and energy is what this team is lacking..These girls remember Glory's class, and that group was never the LV's that we are known for...You can't ask this team "where do u think you are, THIS IS TENNESSEE", because they remember seeing the only class that never made a final 4...It is not about a win or lose, but watching this team, and the reaction of their head coach, this well might be our bottom...

I really don't think we have the talent that people think we have. I think we have athletes but not basketball players. You need players that can shoot the ball. We have one or two that go one streaks and are equally bad when they start missing.

Summit never used to run a zone. She ran it a little later in her career but that seems to be about 70% now. Why would you run a zone against the best 3 shooting team and one of the best passing teams in the country?

I dislike playing the "Pat would have" game, but Pat was probably the best coach alive at imposing her will on her teams. A lot of people claimed she sucked for losing at all those FFs in the early 2000s, but I always viewed it as a testament to how great a coach she was - even in years they should have been retooling, UT rolled into Final Fours because Pat squeezed a level of effort out of those teams which was improbable. She drove a level of defensive commitment which bailed UT out of a lot of tight games. But that was Pat.

Now, I feel like I don't know what I see. I don't know if its Holly. I really don't. Parity has been coming for a long time -- can't just put on jerseys and automatically win games like teams once did. But whatever it is you need to win, UT doesn't have it right now. Whatever it is they are, whatever it is they want to be, we haven't seen it yet. Or, maybe we have.

your right,i shouldn't be comparing CPS at all,she is a true legend of any sport

When I was watching the game I saw Burdick miss two eight foot uncontested shot and then Jones misses a five footer from the side. Massengale missed at least three short ones just the way they shoot hit or miss. They made adjustments and we couldn't step up and make the shots they were giving us.

I was pondering the same question about the zone. I don't know much about Notre Dame but it seems like a legit question.

Second half collapse. i just want this game to end this is flat out embarrassing especially been at home.

Here is where we are third or fourth best team in the SEC around the top 15 in the nation. Most programs would be glad to be there but what Pat did here makes that totally unacceptable.

Another teaching moment for Holly Warlick and the Tennessee staff.

Maybe this team can learn something from the loss or maybe it motivates them to work harder. The loss doesn't matter. What matters is this team has to improve down the stretch, somehow some way.

It is not parity that got us to this point..It started with "what they called" the best single class that Pat ever had (the ones that were the first to not make it to a final four for their entire career)..We have not been at the level of the 4 tops teams for many years now, and they was a big difference between the 4th best team and everyone else...We have been getting beat by the Stanford's and ND, and if we had to play Conn in the last 6 yrs or so, we would have lost by 30 and even 40...It has been several years since we were among the Nation's best...We have been in the 2nd, and sometimes 3rd tier since Candace's final year

They should have never just given Holly the job. They should have interviewed about 5 candidates including her and then made a decision. Why would you hire someone who has never been a head coach to lead the top program in the country?

McGraw made the necessary adjustments in the second half and her team responded because they're very well coached. can't say the same about our coaching staff.

The man to man defense hasn't been too good this year, which ... maybe ... was why? I feel like we haven't been good at helping and playing good defense in man. But I agree. Half those open threes that put ND up for good were wide open looks for their guards, left all alone at the same spots, over and over. It was disgusting.

We have players on this team that have been here for years and still can't guard anybody. That was evident in the LSU game and the Vandy game and again tonight.
