Game Thread Lady Vols vs Syracuse in the Elite 8

Hitting shots and scoring points solves a lot of problems doesn't it? If the team doesn't shoot 50% and instead shoots it's normal - what - 42%, then they score 66 points instead of 78. The entire dynamic changes.

Has been the major problem all season because players could not hit the outside shot and many chose to shoot threes they could not make. Shooting 20 threes and making 3 is 17 bad possessions. In the last two games only 11 threes meaning we have worked for the better two point shot that we can convert. We need to stay away from the three it is not our game this season. Plenty of players need to put in heavy work to get better from that range for next season.

Diamond is due to have a high-scoring game, but the team, after two good games, is due for a bad game. Which will it be? What will we see?

They will crash Russell and Graves so we have to hit from outside. Holly mentioned this in the post game interview. Diamond has to play better than last night. I hope Reynolds is ok. GLV!!!

Depending on our players injury status I think we win this game & make yet another trip to the Final Four. If Graves, Reynolds,& Carter aren't able to go then that places us into a very tough situation. If Graves & Carter can go but not Reynolds we have a much better chance.

I don't believe Reynolds will play. She most definitely received a concussion. She will most likely be out. I think both Graves & Carter will play but with finger/hand injuries they might be limited in what they can contribute.

Carter was crying at the end of that game last night. Must be a pretty serious finger injury. I think Graves will go because she came back in the game last night after being injured.

I'm still picking us to win regardless. The way Mercedes is playing is the key for us. If she continues her solid playing I say we win by a score of 72-66. Syracuse is no doubt a solid team but let's hope they used all of their mustard by defeating the Lady Gamecocks.

It depends entirely on one set of circumstances and "IF" anyone scolded her for doing it...

DD dribbled into the paint with no plan twice back to back in this past game, resulting in turnovers. She smiled a smile of uncertainty, only to go to the bench and never hear a word about it. As far as I could see, anyway. AND she played her least impacting game in a week... If she isn't "Alpha'd" back into the real-world, like Jollette recently did, she will not come out of the funk. Mark My Words, here!

I hope beyond hope that someone backed her down off-camera and got her head straight.

We may get away with one more semi-performance from our gem on this side of the bracket, but when we get to the four, it will change dramatically. If we let the diamond play without keeping her focused, she WILL turn to glass again.

Don't overreact on the finger thing folks.... I have seen a simple jammed knuckle bring grown men to their knees. It hurts like hell until someone unlocks the jam... I do hope that is the extent of it. And based upon the fact it was taped and the tape kept the tears away... Its a Jammed finger.... The only real wild-card is Reynolds status.

Everybody focuses on the post players. It's the guards. When the guards get the ball to the post player where the post wants it and when the post wants it, then the post has a better chance to score. If the guards do this and shoot a decent percentage themselves, then even better. Reynolds and Cooper shot a combined 60%. There are 18 assists from the guards. The timing on the passes was better than I have seen it all season. The perimeter defense harassed OSU's perimeter players into 33% shooting.

It's the guard play not the post play that has improved the most.

Holly was a guard... This doesn't surprise me that that aspect of the game has a focus.

Went back and watched the cuse and carolina game. They seemed to just out work and out hustle carolina. Carolina shot themselves in the foot over and over with unforced turnovers. Syracuse also was very successful using the high ball screen... so i think we should stick with 1-2-2/3-2 zone. We have the advantage in the paint. Must guard the 3 ball!

Beat the Cuse 57-55 back in November....I'm expecting the game to be about the same....the thing is Holly has been using the "Underdog" term so far in the tourney....well now you're the favorite how does your team react?? And for the 3rd time in a row you're handed a final 4 appearance are you going to get it done???

I'm curious as to how the LV's were handed these appearances. I would really like to be enlightened on this. Thanks.

Syracuse is #-1 in the nation in Turnover Differential. The Lady Vols better be focused and cut down on them damned turnovers.

LVs by 8.

Ironic that the LVs will be wearing orange, and the Orange will be in white.

Their Orange is ugly.
By the way, weren't they known as the Orangemen awhile back?

Sorry GM to put this on you, but my wish is that the Lady Vols continue to play well and you have to start two more of these threads.

nice post Sly :good!:

Thanks, Mule. I know you are a big fan in the same vein as I am. Tired of the **** from the late coming outlanders regarding the Lady Vols. I really hope everyone is healthy and ready to go tomorrow. OSU (losers) put quite a physical beat down on them when the officials weren't looking or didn't care.

the refs were letting the Lady Vols get mugged,I did like it when Russell started pushing back, she did show some grit

I assume nobody has heard anything about injuries then ?

I'll gladly start more game threads for them any time :salute:

#32 for OSU tried to start something with the bench, with Russell, and then with Nared. What was up with all that?

Haven't heard any thing on Jordan. Everyone else seems to be OK to go. We'll see tomorrow. We're headed to the final four.

During interviews today, Holly said DD, Bashaara and Carter are all fine and will play. She said Reynolds is still being evaluated and they don't know if she'll be able to go. Doesn't sound promising for Reynolds. Wonder who'll start if Reynolds is a no-go-- Cooper or Carter?
