Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs Texas A&M, Thurs Jan 2nd ; Away game; 8 PM Eastern; SEC+ stream win 91-78

All I will say is that the issues of the second half, in particular the 3rd quarter, will be our downfall if they are not corrected. Normally a 20 plus lead should suffice and hold up, but against the better teams, they tend to not panic and whittle away at the lead with high percentage shots after they settle down and adjust. This is based on the expectation that the percentage the Lady Vols will shoot will be much lower. It is a battle of the odds.

I do think the opponents probably get caught up with the pace at the start but then settle down and realize that with patience they can work themselves back into the game. It is going to be interesting to see how this offense plays out over the season.

I'm hopeful we have a good year - cautiously optimistic but do expect losses to happen against the better teams. They are not going to panic and will play the odds.
Not the first time so still work to do. We had an 18 point lead on Florida St needed a last second shot to win that one. I was thinking it was happening again then Cooper took over with a couple of three point plays and it really slowed their momentum.

I keep having a strong feeling Latham is about to become a major force on both ends of the court. We have definitely gotten a glimpse into what she can be recently, and so when "it" happens for her, it's gonna be epic. And if Jillian continues to show her strengths, with her, Latham and Spearman in the post I don't think we'll need to worry about that area of the floor anymore.

And Ruby Whitehorn is crushing it. I'm a huge fan of that kid!
Ruby has kept us in games when a lot of players were faultering. Iowa is one and she made some big baskets last night. She always does.

When it was all said and done, our girls played like "Lady Vols Demons" letting the SEC know, the Lady Vols are back baby.... Even when the refs were calling our girls for just touching an A&M player, and the A&M players were throwing themselves on the court to draw a foul, Coach Kim and her "Wrecking Crew" just kicked the ever lovin (fill in the blank) out of the girls from Texas...
Enough said....So let it be written, so let it be done!

Not that it matters but I think Caldwell is better looking than Kellie. I know it's not pc to care about that...and I don't....just an observation. Sorry for any offense. Heck Pat wasn't great looking and I'd take her back in a heartbeat.

Caldwell is first round draft pick eye candy, but I only care if the way she impacts the program is first round quality. I'd say she checks the boxes.

That is how I felt as well but was glad to see us able to put it back to double digits each time they got too close for comfort.

After watching the full replay, Tennessee players showed up and earned a gritty W on the road to start SEC play. Coach Lazo knows it. Coach Tubner knows it.
The Iowa game was the defining moment. With the frontcourt we faced against Iowa that featured Hannah S, there’s not a better two way opponent in the post the LVs will face all season.
To beat Iowa in front of 10,000 was huge.
The deep roster of former ACC and SEC starters assembled as LVs on this Top 10 roster knows it. I really believe this team mindset is a SEC and NCAA championship this season. They are absolutely relentless on the court. The game announcers seem really impressed by how the LV new era is innovating WBB and how intriguing it is for the current team as well as recruits.
I think one thing that has kind of flown under the radar in this game is Samara Spencer is fast! She is still recovering from a setback injury, so once she gets back to full strength man it’s going to be exciting to see the LVs in their mode.
GBO!
Lets go!!

I think most would give the edge to Pearl. He has a jovial, frat boy demeanor, good hair and nice features. Barnes facial features are a bit sharp (date I say rodent like). Not surprised that Pearl went into sales between coaching jobs. I could totally see him killing it in a used car lot or selling insurance to elderly widows.

Pearl is not afraid to bare his chest either, whereas I am having a hard time imagining Barnes pulling that move. Body confidence counts for something.

Per the Kim versus Kellie catwalk competition. I think those voting Kim are being swayed by the younger, fresh face but Kellie is a classic beauty. She could have been a model in her 20 and 30's. Actually at any point., She rocked those little black dresses on the sidelines.

Not really a competition there but I am glad.

I think having a "mean chipmunk" coach is going to be secret sauce that propels this team to greatness.
How far we’ve fallen….😬😂😂😂

Who is going to design the t-shirt?

Really curious to see how the team looks against an opponent considered to be in the top third of the league. Oklahoma, you’re up next.
Well, let's hope that Massey's metric has caught up to the season (or vice-versa). He has the Lady Vols winning by 5. He called the Texas-OK game at 77-72. The final score was 80-73.

They're ranked in the top 9 in the entire country, so Sunday's game is really big for Tennessee. Really big. And I think the Lady Vols have a good shot at winning, especially since it's a home game and I expect a really strong crowd. I'm hoping for 13-14,000. 15,000 would be amazing, but I am not liking the fact that it's supposed to be really cold because that tends to keep some folks home.

I think it's still underrating our offense and slightly overrating our defense. I think the majority [tho not all] of our games will end with one team having 90 points, [hopefully that's usually us] but it only has us scoring 80+ twice, and getting 80+ scored on once. [@LSU]

The end of the A&M game was a jump of about 1 point per game for Tennessee's offense in Massey's metric, up to 2nd. (behind LSU)

Our defensiv rating didn't change much, so we're now almost exactly tied with UConn for 5th on Massey's metric.
