Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs Vandy ; Sun Jan 19th ; Away game; 3 PM Eastern; SEC+

We’re never getting a call like that. Ever. So don’t even try to count on it. Would have been smarter to just foul the crap out of Pierre and make her win it at the line or force overtime. Might have been able to do it with enough time for one more shot too.
There was still like 30 seconds on the clock. These free throws put them up 1 (69-68). I think we are talking about different plays.

All the stuff you said does not matter if the correct call is made by the ref. We were up one point.
All of what you’re saying makes no difference. You don’t show up and take care of things for 40 minutes, a bad call (whether you agree with it or not) can cost you a game. So, yes, everything I explained to you does matter.

We also got a look at what the team looks like when Samara, Jewel and Tess are all off. We’re gonna miss them big time next year.

We have some talented players coming in, but they aren’t gonna save the program.

Our coaching staff has to be better in late game situations. Period.

Is Texas actually that much better? Or on par with LSU? This team has proven they will hang around in games no reason to be believe we will start getting blown out by like 20pts now.

They’re that much better than us. We can’t beat a well coached team with a pulse in the SEC until we decide we’re gonna defend for 40 minutes. Which doesn’t appear to be likely to happen this season.

Hard to tell why but this team just isn’t willing to give 40 minutes of effort. They say all the right things but they aren’t putting it into practice on the court.

We are officially not hosting for the NCAA tournament with this loss as well. We aren’t beating teams like SC, Texas or UCONN playing about 25 minutes of actual ball. We’re gonna be fortunate to finish better than .500 in the sec at this point.
Sadly unfortunate.

We’re on pace to finish 7th as predicted.

It's not good to be the team that "lost all its games by a few points." There's always one or two of those each year, feels like. But it's not good to be those teams. You have to close. To win in March, you have to be able to close out close games. The hallmark of winning postseason teams is an ability to close in crunch time.

The sky isn't falling or anything, but Tennessee isn't where it or its players want it to be right now. I hope they figure it out.

And everyone lost their mind about Kellie Harper losing a game in the final second of a game to the #1 ranked team in the country. This is 3 games by less than than 2 points that we have not been able to close out and when it's Vanderbilt that makes it so much worse.
In defense of this, the player that got the final put back should have been on the bench long before this play. There should have been so many offensive fouls called against Blake's that ultimately were called on the Lady vols. Horrific officiating and that last play Pierre ran over Whitehorn and should have been called on that offensive foul.

Watching Prawl right now on ESPN2 she is balling and IMG is dominating their opponent. I think she is going to be awesome as a freshman.

No it does not. I said IF the call is made then nothing you said matters. Stop replying to me please.

Tough game and finally hopefully the learning moment for Coach she has been saying all season but finally lost to a team you were a slight favorite. Play is expected for 40mns that is why we sub so much. When your starting guards are a no show for first 3 quarters you put yourself in position to lose. Down the stretch with lead up 5 Spear good look in paint misses then gets foul call. Second up 3 Coop great look 8 footer she makes routine. Vandy made plays down the stretch more than us. Now to those who say Vandy is not a good team sorry they are net 22 and 8th type seed in tournament. I know it's Vandy I know it's tough. Now we have toughest stretch in country coming up. Let's see how we learn from this. In CHRIST Alone

I just can’t put this performance for 3 quarters on the officiating today.
I think after today even if they comeback and somehow win you’re starting over from scratch.
This is bad today.
Stand by original post regarding the officiating. We blew both games, but the officiating was awful throughout the game. Terrible when you have to go to the monitor time after time and the last was a charge.

I know she’s super talented - as are all the incoming frosh. They just aren’t gonna save the program.

The staff has to be better.

What Coach Caldwell trying to get into these players play hard for 40 they just don't do it.

The Grinnell System was invented as a 3-platoon system, and we were running it as a 2-platoon system through the non-con slate, and today we made it almost a 1-platoon system; 33/30/29/26/26 out of the starters. This loss has me seriously skeptical that running it as a pseudo 1-platoon system is viable. Go back to what was working, spread your playmakers out between platoon A and platoon B, and out-hustle the other team for 40 minutes.

Cooper playing 33 minutes of merely +1 plusminus basketball against Vandy is a sign of deviation from what got us to 14-0 just not working. If she's fresh, she's elite quality. If she's tired in the 4th, she's a mistake-prone player with a good drive and a good shot, but not *elite*.

Cooper should play less than 20 minutes in the first 3 quarters, and have enough in the tank to take over defensively and offensively late. I think we could be double digit plusminus with Cooper even in SEC play that way.

That's what I think, anyway. And a 1 point loss on the road in a game where we only made six 3s isn't as bad as it may feel in the moment. That's just basketball, sometimes the shots don't go in.

The learning moment should have been OU, a team we are better than and lost to because we wouldn’t defend and rebound.

We quite clearly didn’t learn from that as we have dropped 2 of the last 3 by one point to teams we should have beaten.
