Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs Vandy ; Sun Jan 19th ; Away game; 3 PM Eastern; SEC+

Recently got back from that opera house supposed gym. First thing, Vandy can't afford Wi-Fi for their fans? I can get it in Neyland.

Also, what is the point of the idiot Vandy Whistler? What is he supposed to do? This moron was going relentlessly from about the middle of the first quarter. Fitting miserable cap to one of the worst basketball weekends I can ever remember from the Vols, losing two 1 point games at the buzzer to Vandy in Memorial. Vandy.

Just a couple of observations from seeing the Caldwell product up close for the first time. The intensity of the press was either lacking or purposely gets more intense as the game goes on because the initial press was not "40 Minutes of Hell" stuff, but more token pressure. We forced very few turnovers to get easy baskets and it didn't seem to have the type of cumulative effect as it does normally.

We have no great perimeter defenders, their guards kept driving on their strong hand to the basket and the Vandy player did so on the final play to win. I sat there in the timeout with 4 seconds left knowing we would lose. If they didn't score the refs who kept the Dores from losing the lead in the third quarter would give them shots and they didn't miss a damn shot from the stripe. I didn't realize only two Vandy player shot free throws, but their #12 seemed to be at the line every few possessions.

Regardless, the game was made difficult for us in the second quarter. Vandy noticeably turned the screws on defense a bit, muddying up the game, and we didn't match until after the break.

Agree, except for the Wi-Fi. I had Wi-Fi there. Went to both games. Vol fans showed up in mass and were loud. I hate Memorial…

I hate him. Other teams hate him. Vanderbilt fans - some of them - hate him. Even recruits who've gone to some of their games have come away saying they hate that constant irritating whistling noise.

The fact Vanderbilt continues to allow him and the other asses like him to operate at their sporting events is completely inexcusable.

They are absolute trash.

Also - addendum - it is my sincere hope that, if nothing else, my level of absolute hatred for those whistlers was adequately expressed in this game thread. "Yeah but you'd help them, if you saw them stuck on the side of the road, right?" Hell no. I'd roll down the window, whistle at those jerkwads, and drive right on by. Hate.

Elite D1 power 4 players are very different from D2 or Midmajor players. They are stronger, much more skilled and have better basketball IQ (generally) not to mention, they are better coached leading to better game plans and scouts. Case and point, Marshall took a 25-5 team into the NCAA tournament against a good ACC team a year ago after beating up on conference foes and we all know how that ended. Granted we have better athletes at Tennessee than any mid major team, but so does every other power 4 team. This team needs to commit to its identity or its going to to be a rough rest of the season and it maybe anyhow. Today's loss was a bad loss to an unranked opponent.

That bad Vandy team lost by six to LSU at LSU so maybe they can play a little bit but who knew!

They’ll have to go on a pretty deep run in postseason to get to 25 without at least one upset of one of the 5 games left in which they’ll be an underdog.

They were also on a 3 game lose streak with 20 point losses to Kentucky and Ole Miss. We haven't played those two teams yet. Who knew...

Believe she was fired for being 12-32 vs ranked teams in 5 years. We quickly forget how bad she was.

Granted, a lot of those losses were to UConn, some really good pre-collapse Stanford team, and a South Carolina dynasty, and it wasn't like she was handed an elite Lady Vols team either, she picked up where Holly finished; a Lady Vols that lost 13 games. And her teams were never as bad as that last Holly team, particularly on defense. (gave up 75+ points 11 times in Holly's last year, and unlike this Lady Vols team that can win that way, that team went 3-8 in that stretch [wins vs Texas, Belmont, and Murray State])

That's no way to be. Watch them grow, it want be long until there taking big steps. There really not that far away. They definitely should have learned a hard lesson today. Disappointing for sure but don't give up. GLV

If the starters are going to play starter mins as they did today, why not just sub normally? Esp if you're only half ass pressing. Maybe some of the lack of focus and mental stumbles are from being constantly subbed and not staying in the flow of the game. Sometimes it seems like we platoon sub just cuz that's what we said we do.

this thinking has got to be modified,,,I don't mind subbing in and out 5 at a time,,,but when the game is close and especially when it is in the4 middle of one of our offensive spurts,,,SUB with PURPOSE for a spell!

ANd yes, shoot the thre ball but not to the point where it makes no coaching/game sense,,,You let a shooter shoot themself out of a slump (within reason),,,but you can't let a team continue tro shoot the long-ball if it is in a slump

In Qtr 1 we went 2 for 7...I'll take that,,,but in Qtr 2 we went 0 for 12.
And after going 0 for 6 in the first 6-1/2 mins,,,we went 0 for six in the last 3-1/2 mins
You can't wait until halftime to realize that this is happening

Yes, she lost alot of benchmark games as you mentioned. She also lost a good portion of games to teams ranked not named UConn, Stanford, USC. Mulkey success didn’t help as it added another proven winner to the SEC.

I’m a true Vol fan. I think right now DW and UT athletics is the best in the SEC. I have no problem with losing games when a team gets outplayed which isn’t the case right now.
I just think I’ll take the rest of the regular season off and possibly comeback this season to check out the SEC tourney.
Discipline means everything in athletics. I don’t care how much talent a team or players have if they aren’t committed to being a discipline team then they won’t ever contend.
Some things should never happen. As a former coach, we didn’t win the championship just because we had a talent/competitive advantage, we won because we were disciplined.
A 5’10 at best guard getting a putback layup for a win at the buzzer with multiple players in the paint is a lack of discipline.
I hope this team for their sake makes an effort to become more disciplined.

What was everyone's expectation for the year? Our poor play has been mostly hidden by our schedule. As the season has progressed I see we have the talent to compete. I'm not gonna back off my expectations though and that's make the tournament. Right now we are a mid pack sec team with potential to upset or be upset. We have to win the games we are suppose to and try to steal one somewhere. I don't think we have an easy game from here on out.

Some because of Jersey demand perfection Some just have no patience and some hate Kellie getting fired and when we replaced her it's with a no name instead of big time hire. Here is nut of this. Hollie could recruit with the best bringing in AA left and right but couldn't get past Elite 8. Kellie inherited some of that talent but quit recruiting AA high schoolers living only in Portal and couldn't get past sweet 16. So for most it is we are so ready for Lady Vols to be back on top that having to rebuild again with new system and style they are not really patient to wait or believe it will happen. I look at from we have put together a new good team with holes in lineup and style we want to play. I love the recruits coming in and ones returning and future recruits to know we are heading back to compete against the best for final fours. Sorry long post. In CHRIST Alone
