Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs Vandy ; Sun Jan 19th ; Away game; 3 PM Eastern; SEC+

This really is Vanderbilt’s biggest win ever 😂
Biggest in a while. They beat us in the SEC tourney in Memphis in like 2001 toward the end of the Meek era. That was huge for them. I pouted all the way thru Graceland the next day when my family forced me to take them there.

Anyone remember the name of their center who Michelle Snow just couldn't guard? PG was Ashley something and my kids said she looked like Minnie Mouse. Those two were hell for us for a couple of years.

LOL! You know this how?

By a coach in just 8 months of recruiting the current roster to stay, plus four players that started in the ACC and SEC via the portal with all four currently averaging double figures, and a HS recruiting class ranked #1/#2 in 2025 with 5 players nominated for selection to the McD AA team.
If you think it’s because of NIL then you don’t have a clue.
As I said, CKC recruiting is better than NIL.

Talk about not having a clue...

Maybe Ashley McElhiany- Ashley Ayers now?? .. she’s married and her and her husband are coaches of USJ university school of Jackson in Tennessee. Now her daughter, Haylen is one of the top prospects in her class. Ashley had Haylen young and not with the guy she’s with now. Haylen has natural skill that you just can’t teach.

Wasn’t it her girlfriend or something like that

Yes! Chantelle Anderson! How could I have forgotten. I'll bet Snow hasn't forgotten.

One of the most epic Pat in-game tantrums I remember was directed at Snow and Ace Clement over failure to guard those two.

They were coached by Jim Foster in that damn way too snug yellow sweater. Must have had the same tailor as Danny White.

Bet not even home movies from the Jungle Room could cheer you up.

Caldwell and her staff would have gotten none of those recruits without the competitive NIL funds that they now have available.
Tennessee was outbid for four of the five kids committed in this class, but they came here because they connected with the coaching staff, something that just wasn’t happening with the previous staff.

While I agree there were some issues in getting money for first year players, that was not the previous staff’s biggest issue in recruiting. They didn’t close because they didn’t connect with players the same way other staffs did.

Was thinking the same thing. One swears off till the tournament, the other shows up just in time to engage. Pop the corn… 🍿

I love UT athletics. Recruiting is elite again. NIL is not an issue. CKC recruiting is better than NIL. In 8 months this staff was not outbid and won recruiting battles over Notre Dame, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida State, Oklahoma, LSU, Duke, etc. I just decided even before today’s game to be honest that maybe I should probably not watch the rest of the regular season.
Honestly, I just want to remember some positive feelings about the season and not continue to develop many negative thoughts particularly from reading the forum and watching games.
If it’s Gods will next season or after in 2026- 2027 one of my goals is to get closer to the Knoxville area and become a season ticket holder. I’m one semester from dissertation hours in my Doctoral Program studies. My time will go towards those studies and spare time watching games of the future commits for atleast the next month.
GBO!

It was Chantelle Anderson I believe is who you are talking about and she was one of the Best centers in the nation that year. 6-6 and very sturdy. In those days, that type of center was dominate. Basically every possession went to her. Not sure if Balcomb was their head coach at that point, but Vandy was tough back then.

I recorded the game, but definitely not going back to watch it, and the game thread is super long. Can somebody give me a high level overview of what happened? I seen the box score, what the hell happened in the 2nd quarter?!
