This has to be one of the best LV player pressers in recent history. I laughed so much! Love this team so much!

You are so right. Pressers with the players typically are serious and businesslike with only minimal interactions among the players. I have never felt better about the comradery on this team and the coach who is rebuilding this program than after seeing this. I might have to listen to it on a bad day just to pick up the mood!

Good grief. Tennessee had no business scheduling this team. None.
They have arguably their top four players out with injury currently. Made them look a lot worse than they are.

The entire non-conference schedule, save for one game, was already signed before the coaching change was made, and it was really too late to find different opponents if Kim had wanted to make a change.

That's understandable then, I wasn't aware they were down four. Appreciate getting the context for it. I don't know what kind of difference it would have made, but, again, the on-court performance makes more sense than it did at the time.

I don't think I was looking to assign blame to a person or staff - I know it's complicated and isn't always set year to year. Just kind of shades of some of those awful schedules we've seen from LSU in recent years. And when I watched our girls bounce pass - and a slow bounce pass at that - a baseline to baseline ball past their post who didn't even try to reach for the ball, and thought "wow, this one probably shouldn't have been on the schedule." Easy to say in the moment, I realize. But that was Kent State vs Tennessee levels of ... uh ... rough ... to watch.

Totally agree. This was a mid level high school team.
Unfortunately missed most of the game but an 80 point win is reminiscent of how Pat’s old teams in the 90s would steamroll opponents
No they didn't. Pat would never have scheduled a team like this. Her late 90s/early 2000 teams sometimes won by 30 or 35, and once beat Vandy by 50 in an SEC tourney. But they didn't reach this far to the bottom of the barrel for games. This may have been the worse team I've ever seen the LVs play.

When Tennessee plays a team from a smaller/weaker football conference, that team is paid $$ for their program. Does the same hold true in this situation?
Yes of course. Why else would they take this kind of complete and utter humiliation? Some coach who's currently on the 50 pt loss tour was very honest about it just the other day after being crushed by LSU. Said of course it's awful but it's the only way she has to fund her program. She seemed totally torn down and I'm sure her kids are too.

I know some say these kids enjoy seeing a top tier program and it's a good experience for them. But it sure wouldn't be for me. I can buy a ticket to a top game, I can get a tour of the facilities. BUt none of it is worth being so totally ground to dust and reminded how far off you are from elite programs. Not in the same universe. I wish we wouldn't schedule out of 150 or so range.

I'm just really glad no one got hurt and I can't wait for the rest of preseason to be over. Scheduling has gotten far out of hand in all sports. This was like the football team beating Kent st 77-0. Records are great, but these almost need an asterisk.

See post #404 for their coach's perspective, as well as their players.

As has been said before, we fans live in a different world from the players'.

Yes he said he just finished a "money gaunlet" and he was very glad it's over. Now he can cash the checks and go back to playing competition that makes sense for his team.

He was able to endure his money gaunlet with more good humor and resignation than that poor lady the other day. Probably bc of all his injuries he was already freefalling. But I still maintain this is not good for anyone. And it's getting more and more prevalient in all sports.

I can't wait for some more actual and real games.

Another fun game to watch. I can see the press is getting better as players figure each other out. Not a strong opponent but there is a lot to say for building camaraderie and offensive confidence no matter who you're playing.

Right. This has been part of athletics on all levels for many years.
Teams play games that are up or down in division level, which the expectation is that it’s not going to be a competitive game.
Even on the pro level in all sports there’s lopsided games.
Certain posters were going to come on to complain today no matter the outcome or the team the Lady Vols face.
To each its own.
Just wait until a few weeks from now and watch how they come on here complaining when the Lady Vols start beating SEC teams too.
I mean just enjoy the sport which for the most part is the mindset of a good part of the fanbase.

Exactly. That's a decent schedule. Only got super lopsided in the early rounds of the NCAA. The two preseason cupcakes were Montana and Colorado, major schools. NOTHING like that poor group of young ladies today. Pat woulda never, except back in the day when there just weren't that many teams to play. Remember, LA Tech was a major power then.

I've been going to games a long time. I don't ever remember playing as many really bad teams as this year. I'm sure it was due to circumstances and we won't do it again. I'm just more than ready for the real spirit of competition. This ain't it. They're 358th! My rule of thumb is we should never go below Carson Newman level.

Different world today.Glad to see the entire roster get theirs today as it's a long season and they all deserve a chance to contribute. This group looks like they are having fun and the players are playing really well in this system. T Coop has All Conference potential just plays on a different level.

Agree with all that. But they can do it without dipping below the 150-200 level. There's just no reason to play #358 unless you just absolutely can't fill the schedule any other way.

I can remember getting taken to task on this very board last year for celebrating wins over bad to middling SEC teams like Miss St and Vandy. It is indeed a different world.

So because I’ve never officiated Division I basketball I’m not allowed to criticize obviously incorrect calls? Ridiculous.
Did you criticize Elon when his rockets crashed? No because you understand how hard it is to make that happen. You think you know how a ref should call a game so you feel comfortable criticizing

You are watching a game on TV from an angle above the court. You are able to see every inch of the court and every player at all times. They are watching small sections based on eye sight lines. The game is fast. Things get missed.

Do you actually think they don't want to do a good job and issue stuff on purpose? I assume you never miss anything while you are working......
