The COACH's primary job is to put their players in the best position to score on the offensive end.Fact is the LV's have three players who can be great on the offensive end ......Jackson,Spear, and Key .The offense should be run to get those three players touch the ball in a position that they can score,ie,specific plays run for them every time down the court.Too often this team has the wrong players shooting the ball . Coach Harper does not use the talent she has to the optium degree ....it is that simple. The talent is there but Kellie gets very tight when her stars struggle and relies too much on the subs (Darby, Jill) to make up the difference instead of using them as just a short rest. U can tell in the first few plays if those 2 will be effective today or not. They also don’t need extended minutes.
I’m harping on Tess but she literally had NO STATS and played 15+ minutes
Knox ,I have complained about Tess Darby for three years now.....she is only good as a spot up shooter as you indicate can not create her own shot and cannot guard a fence post . Not athletic enough to guard the fast/quick SEC players .I have never understood why she gets so much playing time.....she is a liability both on offense and defense and has been for 3+ years.People complaining about Tess Darby.
Why now? She has been the same for her career a spot up 3 point shooter who is a liability on defense.
People just now figuring this out, this was a team loss .
The stars underperformed, the role players never showed up and Kellie was like a Deer in headlights.
Wash, Rinse, Repeat.
Whether this team ultimately makes the tournament or not, the mere fact we’re even talking about missing the tournament as a possibility in Year 5 is prima facie evidence that Kellie isn’t getting it done.
Rickea Jackson didn’t put off being a WNBA first round pick for a year to come back to a bubble team. She was told we would be back in Final Four contention if she came back. We as fans were told that too.
Even if we sneak into the tournament in the end, if we don’t get past the round of 32, there still should be a change. We didn’t wait for Holly to blow the tournament streak to fire her. There’s no reason to lower the bar for Kellie either. This is Tennessee. It’s time to act like it.
I do not hate KJH but it appears she has reached the point where there is no more she can do to keep the program at least at the top 25 level. I know she loves the LVs and this is her dream job but when it comes to recruiting and coaching she appears to be in over her head. AD White, barring an unforeseen run, has a big decision to make about KJH and her staff.Yep. Tough night for our two top scorers. This team can't afford bad nights from anyone anymore, but most certainly not from those two, and obviously not on the same night.
It happens. It just can't be happening to this team. Not anymore.
Do we now need to beat all opponents from here on out except for maybe SC to make the tourney? Goodness. Our girls are in a real bind here.
Ever watch the men's game and Coach Barnes when star players have a bad play ?Well, as an observer, I think the reason coaches don't actually get on players about bad plays is because of the chance the player might transfer. Being able to transfer if you don't get to play as much as you want, or being disciplined for not hustling. Coaches have to take this into consideration now days. The new rules are destroying the game. JMO! Go Vols & Lady Vols!
Slow, lazy and no athleticism at all. Don’t see anyone with the heart and desire to win. Really hard to watch these days. On the defensive end fundamentals of defense and rebounding needs great emphasis and teaching .Too many break downs particularly when KEY is out of the game ( she can protect the rim and cover for those players who can not keep their players in front of them). But,the fact is there are many players on the team who are not athletic enough to guard a fence post ....too slow to guard the quick /fast players they face every night in SEC but coach still plays them for long stretches even in critical down the stretch situations at the end of the game.
If the heart's not totally in it, the mind's not totally in itThis was a bad loss in every sense of the word. The screws have tightened, the vultures are circling closer, the degrees of freedom are approaching zero.
The trajectory, at this point, looks as though the "end is nigh" (though there are still enough games to change these dire circumstances- miracle wins against LSU and SC!!!).
Barring a miracle, we are likely witnessing the end of the Harper era.
Given that, how many shots did the LVS have rattle in and out, particularly in the first half? This team was the Jekyll & Hyde counterpart to the other LVs that shot lights out against Missouri (maybe wear those Summitt blues all the time).
When Rickea has more TOs than field goals and scores well below her average and Spears only gets 5 points, this team's route to victory disappears. 16% from 3 and 35% overall won't win many games unless you dominate the boards and the LVs only had a marginal edge in ORs (14-10).
And its not like Bama's offense was a thing of beauty. They made some consecutive buckers down the stretch which sealed the game but their overall shooting numbers was also subpar. They were just less bad than the LVs.
Kellie is the HC and this inconsistency falls on her but it is just strange how a team, and its best players, can completely forget how to shoot on a given night.
They're not lazy,,,they're also not inspiredThere’s one fellow on this forum that says the LV’s play hard. He must be young because like you said I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a more lazy team.
They are more disorganized and unsure than anything else, also the team, overall, is not as talented as I first believed. Some of the substitutions KJH made were not good offensively or defensively. There at the end the team did seem to give up. Just maybe KJH lacks the ability to inspire her players. There’s one fellow on this forum that says the LV’s play hard.
