Game Thread: Tennessee (15-9, 8-4 SEC) @ Vanderbilt (19-7, 6-6 SEC) 2/18/24 2:00 pm EST SEC Network

You're right, they're bought off.

Always knew all these games were rigged, just never had confirmation until now.
Need to watch more of the games and see why really is happening before you try to tell people that it’s not true or not happening. I like Kellie too but she isn’t the one to get it done if she wasn’t a former lady vol 99% of you all would want her gone

Just to confirm, this is your opinion. I’ll pass on going full out Will Smith on you, this time.

No big fan of Justine, and although she had an off day shooting, I’m seeing a willingness to get under the bucket and mix it up for rebounding position. I imagine part of that is Puckett and her feelings regarding her “LV for season” status.
She's 6' 4 she should have more than 1 rebound.

We’re not, USC is just keeping games close till about 5 minutes left in fourth quarter then they turn it on then beat you by 15 points or so. Did with us and did it with Georgia today. I think they doing it so it don’t look bad for other teams
Did the same thing at LSU. Wore them down in the 4th quarter.

that’s a silly comment. Good coaches don’t play that game. What if RJ got hurt?
It matters how many really good players you have. Several times UCONN has won championships with a rotation of 9 or less player. I would say that the Lady Vols have a good 7 player rotation, Key, Jackson, Powell, Spear, Pucket,Wynn, and Holingshed. Striplin and T. Darby are a liability on defense though they can shoot open 3s fairly well. However, against a good team they will give up more than they will receive. Strickland appears to have good defensive possibilities.

I think Justine can become a valuable asset if she learns to maximize her height advantage and develops a good mid-range jumper. She's a streaky shooter (like Tess) but moves pretty well. She could provide help defense and rebounding if she embraced that role. Pretty good passer, too.

Up to her to put in the work. Ralph wil give her the opportunity to play more if she learns it. She has two more years to become a solid player even if she never becomes a mainstay for her team. Sure got lots of experience this year (maybe sees this as her actual freshman season if she was expecting to start or play big minutes immediately upon entering college).

The refs gave them that game by calling all those phantom fouls on Reese.
Reese gets away with a lot of over the back rebounding. She is what we used to call a garbage player. Stays around the rim and cleans up everything for the rest of the team. She is a good free throw shooter. If you can keep her pushed out away from the rim she seems to get frustrated easily.

Cardoso gets away with over the back from what I’ve seen in the 2 games I watch them play, I don’t think Reese gets frustrated but she does get motivated and more intense, just watch her against Cardoso in their battles and she was 4 inches shorter and giving up about 70lbs.

Cardoso gets away with a lot. Watched her push Puckett to the floor Thursday night and ref was standing there looking at it. It bothers me that Key can get close to someone and gets foul called on her.

I don’t like to blame the refs but when it’s so obvious I can’t help myself.

Painful. But, he's not wrong.

I need Sara to stay aggressive. She keeps tending to disappear after she has a great game.
Most of our team can’t handle success tbh.. we’re getting better but it seems to be a trend… but reemphasis we really are getting better they are playing great D despite woes in scoring

Her teammates don't even throw her the ball..it's basically 4 on 5 when Pissott is in
Her actions here have obviously had a long term impact on her relationship with some of her former teammates, based on their on-court interactions that have been highlighted in this thread. Her teammates here tried to push her. Think what you want about Harper, but she told her exactly what she would have to improve to see the court here and her response was to leave in a huff and declare that she wanted to play somewhere that she could beat Tennessee. Vandy was the only SEC school that even seriously talked to her.

She’s obviously doing something that Shea Ralph likes, since she’s starting. But she still doesn’t create her own shot, doesn’t feel the need to move without the ball, still cannot defend any guard with athleticism or any post with any physicality, and it appears that her new teammates aren’t looking for her because of it. Tennessee was doing all they could to stop Washington and the two guards, which should have opened her up all day and she had, what, 3 points? UT’s game plan defensively in both matchups should have opened her up to have a big night and she didn’t.

Justine does a lot standing around just like she did here and her defense is no better either
Hence the reason she didn't get on the court at Tennessee. She seems somewhat uncoachable when it comes to expanding her game. Too many fans think if someone can do something offensively somewhat well they should get 38 minutes per game.

Powell is much improved imo.
Dawn Staley complimented the Lady Vols guard play against them. I would assume an Olympian who started at guard in the Olympics would have a better understanding of what good guard play looks like a bit more than some of the keyboard warriors around here. Anyway, Powell is one of the best Assisting guards in the SEC. Stats don't lie.

Well, yeah, since they're the latest team we've played.

We'll know next Sunday if we're actually peaking at the right time ("peaking" being a figure of speech since there's lots of room for improvement).

After all, you were the one who said that we weren't "even in the same zip code as USC and LSU" unless "they play bad and we play over our heads." Thursday night's game seemed to disprove that theory pretty handily.
We'll see...And yes you win the games you are playing but you don't measure your team on beating a unranked Vandy. Now ...UConn...ND...Stanford...LSU...USC...Texas...UNC are different stories. And Thursday night proved nothing but that we lost at home...,You must be into moral victories. Losing on your home court by 11 means zilch...other than a loss against a team with a pulse.

Some of y’all can’t even enjoy a big win. On the road against a rival who has won 17 games. Go find another team to criticize.
I'm 69 and been following UT for decades....who died and made you the board warden? And I'll criticize and call a spade a spade when I see fit....Without your permission.
