Game Thread: Tennessee (17-10, 10-5 SEC) @ #1/#1 South Carolina (24-0, 14-0 SEC) 3/3/24 12:00 pm EST ESPN

We've played almost 50 ranked teams in less than five years?

Not many coaches have that kind of guts in scheduling.

Glad we have you keeping track.
Well there’s that spin. Tennessee brand has never shied away from playing ranked teams, this isn’t new.

Teams with those numbers get paid to be homecoming games. That’s a 2 for 1 loss as we don’t collect.

Probably has been overly ambitious with the rosters she's had in scheduling. Were right now number one is strength of schedule going into the SEC Tourney. If she had played like 10 less record might be 12 and 25. Still it does not matter if you can't recruit and get the roster you need to win. It hasn't mattered and will not matter going forward if you don't get that roster right.

I agree re: the overly-ambitious, but the poster was talking about turning the 12-35 against ranked teams into 25-25 vs. ranked teams.

That's not changing the scheduling practices...that's just upgrading the roster or schemes and winning more games against ranked teams.

I think Holly tried downgrading the strength of schedule, but that didn't help despite having superb talent available.

We missed 6 free throws, Sara made 1 of 7 field goal attempts, Tess was 0 for 4 on 3 point attempts, and Tamari did not make a field goal (she made 2 foul shots).

We can do better.

Yep.

To beat the only unbeaten, #1 team at their place, you have a very thin margin of error. Don't have to be perfect, but do have to capitalize on opportunities. Make four of those free throws and make a couple of missed layups and open mid-range shots and grab a few extra rebounds denying SC those extra shots, and we're looking at a 5-7 point Lady Vol win.

And 36,000 delicious Gamecock tears as we ruin their Senior Night.

When one player score 43% of your total pts in a 8pt loss….that’s a big problem looming
It is if you can't find players to get that 43 percent back. She is a 47 percent shooter averages 17 shots per game took a few more than that today. All you need is a couple players that can get up 20 shots and make 47 percent of them consistently.

This is the main reason UT ladies bball has fell to 4-5 slot in the SEC. You can not put slow foot/unathletic players on the floor at this level and be consistently a Top 10 program.
The players UT's had for the last few years, with the exception of Jackson and Horston, aren't very athletic and slow. The team has always placed more of a premium on length rather than speed and this has proven to be a challenge when playing teams with the rankings the fans aspire to.

I maintain this isn't a bad team but a very average one. Today they played pretty well overall but the result is still the same.

Win a game or two in the SEC tournament and they are a lock for the tournament. That's the focus right now.

Let me add two or three players to the roster of my choice and I'll turn that around in the next couple seasons at least in a winning way.

Game practically over A&M total collapse. Let them play in the WNIT. Mitchell will be out of there in a couple more seasons.

Needs a complete shot makeover. Very athletic very offensively limited.
I’m going to be honest, I don’t think she will change. Her jumpshot and the way she goes in for layups are the same since high school. We have too many players that should be at the end of the bench and instead are playing big minutes.

I don't either cause she's had three seasons to do it. Just recruit over her is the option. You have to do that when players aren't or can't produce consistently.

LOL Joni Taylor, not Joni Mitchell. I'll bet Janiah Barker is out of there first. Lots of preseason hype about how great Joni's portal haul was. I know they've missed Rogers but sheesh, they seem out of control.

So, Thursday against GA/KY.

I agrew

Go out and get the best players, and let the, compete for their spot.
To get the best you are going to have to convince them in one of a few ways:
1) Lots of money but I read on VN, No decent NIL program for the WBB
2) Convince them you are going to win NC
3) Convince them the staff is going to develop them for NBA and this is the best place for that

Which of the 3 above do you think is a winning argument to convince a star to come to Rocky Top next year?

Bad hire whatever her name is. One player injured shouldn't collapse your team especially when you have inside players like they do. She doesn't even play Barker and Coulibaly together. Coulibaly left Auburn now they are going to the NCAA and looks like A&M will be WNIT bound.

You have them in the right order. Money would be number one.

I don’t get into all that nil debate on here, I say if the player is elite they will get Nil deals regardless of which school they go to. So u think of Juju Watkins chose to come here she would t get all the Nil deal she has, Taco Bell, Mercedes, Celsius and Wells Fargo?
