Game Thread: Tennessee (17-10, 10-5 SEC) @ #1/#1 South Carolina (24-0, 14-0 SEC) 3/3/24 12:00 pm EST ESPN

After watching the LSU and SC games, our problem is that no one 6' and over is athletic except for RJ. Our longer players are constantly slow off the floor for rebounds, can't beat opposing players down the court on fast breaks/defense recovery and have average to less than average handles. When your most athletic player outside of RJ is 5'6", not many options left for pressure defense or fast break points.

Hopefully next year Cooper can add a new dynamic and Wynn can improve but outside of those two I don't see any real athletes on the team. To the portal for some hope I guess.

South Carolina did not play especially well in either game against us--they struggled to score for stretches in both games.
How much of that can be attributed to good defense by the Vols as opposed to bad decisions/bad play by SC, I don't
know--no doubt some of both. We deserve credit for hard work defensively, for sure.
SC took 15 more shots than we did today, but shot only 33 percent--and 25 percent from the 3-line,

We shot 36 percent but were a pitiful 21% from the three--had 4 for the game, and I think at least one of those
came when the game was decided.

We got killed on the boards and gave up a whopping 26 offensive rebounds--maybe the key stat in the game--which is why SC
got so many more shots than we did.

We simply have no dependable shooters/scorers other than Jackson. In the two SC games plus LSU we didn't get a good shooting
game from any of the supporting cast in any of them except for Puckett in one of them, as I recall. But that's it.

This is the main reason UT ladies bball has fell to 4-5 slot in the SEC. You can not put slow foot/unathletic players on the floor at this level and be consistently a Top 10 program.

No victory in losing, I’m pissed and the team should feel the same way. Losing is never an option.

No fan I know is satisfied with any loss, but the jerks who predicted (both times) that we might lose by 40-50 still think it's so funny to insult our team... because it was a "winnable game."

Objective observed might note that we actually reduced the loss margin by half the second time around... on the road against a sold-out home crowd. Remember people just hoping that, at best, we'd have a "respectable" loss? Almost no one gave the Lady Vols any chance of winning.

Instead, we overcame a 15-point deficit to throw a scare into SC.

At this rate of improvement, we ought to play even with them in the SEC Finals.

The lady vols defense had a lot to do with that. SC is ranked top 5 in offensive & defensive efficiency in the nation. You guys should be proud of the effort your team played with today.

That's exactly the point. Both games saw both teams shooting lower percentages than usual. That's the result of good defense by both teams.

Nobody means Danny White evidently so we move on. Cause it doesn't matter what anyone else wants he has the final say and think he has spoken.
Why would DW make a change. All he does by making a change is lose millions in payouts and increased staff salaries.

Reading this board it is obvious that 50% of people will be mad if he makes a change and 50% will be mad if he doesn’t. Best thing he can do is nothing and save the money.

Not really sure myself I should have put this in blue font or not.

You got it right still enough support to keep her another season.

I never thought we would get blown out, I predicted a win but we loss, u had people on here saying they should forfeit the game, truly pathetic.

How would that be a change re: scheduling?
Probably has been overly ambitious with the rosters she's had in scheduling. Were right now number one is strength of schedule going into the SEC Tourney. If she had played like 10 less record might be 12 and 25. Still it does not matter if you can't recruit and get the roster you need to win. It hasn't mattered and will not matter going forward if you don't get that roster right.

Shoutout to our defense (SC shot 33%). With LSU and SC twice all having rough offensive games against the LVs, I think we have to start giving some credit where it is due. Yes, those teams as well as the LVs missed some shots that they usually make. That happens with good defense so when you are finally open you rush a shot.
Something that meets the eyeball test but not the official stats: We are so much better with Tamari in despite her current limitations. The moment she was out of the game SC went to the hoop easily for layups every time. That is likely why Tamari was the only player for the LV to have a positive +/- with +5. Our starts in general did well, with the worst being at -3. It was our bench that let us down.
Another big positive was Jasmine Powell. She redeemed herself after her rough 3 game stretch. She had 12 points, 2 three pointers, 3 assists, 1 turnover and an eyepopping 6 rebounds against the rebounding giants of SC.
I think we are learning so that we could provide a major upset in the early rounds of the NCAAs. One can hope!

I can agree with this. I’d like to see this team face an OOC opponent (not named Iowa or Stanford). This roster isn’t built for the SEC grind. Defense/rebounding is the SEC. And this team can’t do that at a high level without it impacting the offense.

Because the defense has been better against the top half, I wanna see how that can translate out of conference.
