Game Thread - Tennessee Lady Vols vs #2 Shady Trees & Referees

Rebecca is looking for answers too
just like everyone else she has her theory
doesn't mean she knows everything

Coach and RK will get this figured out
to do so benefits both of them,,,not just one of them
they will get it worked out
they have all season to do so.

the season is just a preamble to the tourneys
as long as we are getting better and not moving backwards
and we're not,,,we just played #2 to a standstill for 3 Q's.
I am still 100 behind Kellie and will stay there until she/I decide differently

Rebecca saying it to a live audience did more damage than a message board. Spoke honestly to those who had no idea. It was bad publicity.

And the player she is guarding scores . Attitude, no defense, no assists.
Ding ding ding! No rebounds, assists or steals but definitely took a ton of shots and yes did get hit for a little bit….. gotta have it on both ends of the floor!!

So RJ's 6-13 has you upset more than JH's 7-24. Who took a ton of shots? This is not to down JH, but RJ did not take a "ton of shots". I wish she had been in enough to take more. Exactly what we needed today was someone who could hit a shot down the stretch. I believe RJ could have.

hard to play a player who only helps on one side of the ball… 20 minutes of play.. no rebounds.. assists or steals from RJ… she did manage to take 13 shots tho… made 6 of them..that’s a lot of misses and some were forced when she should of instead made an extra pass for a better shot.
Wouldn't have been a bit hard for me to play RJ down the stretch. I only wish she had taken more shots. What we needed was someone who could finish a shot in the 4th qtr. RJ is far and away the LV most likely to do that.

RJ was 6-13. On this team, that's not just good, that's amazing. I don't think any of her attempts were even in the top 5 of ill advised shots today. The team's success completely depends on being able to play RJ much more, get her many more shots, and finally finding an offensive rythmn with/for her.

I think the "foul Brink out" strategy backfired. Seems that she is more vulnerable to fouls in the normal flow of the game...over the back, late to help, following a miss (although she did get several rebounds just by reaching over people). Same with Jones. I think they're more aware when it's obvious that people are deliberately targeting them and they back off; unfortunately, too often we fail to capitalize for an easy score.

We did get a lot of open looks. The assist disparity is partially because we missed a lot of them, not because we weren't passing the ball and trying to find open teammates. Stanford's back doors also lead to a lot of assists...something I wish we were better at.

I guess some people sign up just to post hate towards RJ

I have coached enough RJ's in my 42 years to know you don't just dismiss talent like her
you have a race horse in your corral...Beat your quarter horses and find the "carrot" for your thoroughbred...Like you did for your other race horses
I think all of us want RJ to succeed. But to blame the coach because she dares bench a talented player just does not sit well with me.

Couldn't stay out of foul trouble

We got called for at least a dozen phantom foul calls...I rewatched game and some fouls never happened, but were called and the announcers kept talking about sewing or whatever....

If we touched them it was a foul on us....They knocked the hell out of us several times and no call...Brink was the main bruiser...She was protected when she was needed..

Our pg's have to stop driving into the lane to have their shot knocked out like a volleyball....Kick the damn ball out to a wing shooter waiting for the kick out pass..

Kellie get off your butt and get a damn technical...Your girls were being brutalized and you just sit there again....Inexcusable!

I would never go back to Stanford again...The refs will see to it we lose...

No moral victory, it was just another damn loss.

I agree with every bit of this.

Walker got knocked down and slid about 15 ft with no call. Stanford was taking cheap shots all night and I lost a lot of respect for their program.

Their home win record means nothing if that is the way games are officiated there. It wasn't just pathetic, it was dangerous for the players involved.

and I have to have Coach K's back this time
She worked the hades out of those stripes
she did her job,,,,the refs didn't

Yet RJ finished with two fouls to give and only played 20 minutes.

I thought she picked up her fourth about half way thru fourth quarter. There was one play there where they could have called it on 2-3 of us.

It was on the Pac-10 network with announcers who were familiar with their team and not ours. They called us by wrong names, Karo scored two baskets in a row, and they couldn't think of her name. No biggie

We have about a 22-11 type team counting SEC tourney. I think we can make it to Final 4 in Dallas; we got a bunch of tuff nuts who no one will want to tango with in NCAA's. Long long bench of good bodies..

I believe we're better than CONN's current lineup.

Ya think? To my eye they look more organized, have much better ball movement, passing, and are noticeably quicker in transition.

Editing to say that we ARE improving every game, and by Tournament time I think we’ll be able to compete with anyone.

seriously.
Didn't yo uwatch Jones pushing with extended arm,,,no call
Brink stare down RJ,,,no call
seriously?
CJ I also saw Brink mugged 3 or 4 times straight in one sequence toward end of game.... and ended with a call against the Cardinal....

this is why I try not to post if it is a counter or indifferent opinion..... I should not have said anything

With the refs i saw it go the other way too... i wish we wouldnt criticize the refs to the extent we do.....

this is a general comment..... it seems the critique comes up when we are on wrong side of score

i counted 6-7 of Stanfords (box outs) as actually being pushes in the back. One of them (Belibi) i believe sent players flying out of bounds 2-3 times and nothing was called but the same play was called an offensive foul on us. I'm sure they missed calls on both ends but something that's not up for debate is Brink should of had a tech when she blocked Rickea and then turned in her face and talked ish...

If that was our player (Rickea) it would have been a tech and an unending amount of criticism about her attitude. Rickea kept her cool with her being that close in her face... Good on her

towards the end of the game, they were probably playing in defense-mode
by then the team probably didn't have confidence in the refs ever calling it clean
I'd be playing with a chip on my shoulder at the end too

but also sorry you feel this way
thanks for the input
