Game Thread: UT @ Auburn, Sunday; 12PM, ESPN2 win 83-76

There's a lot of things about Horston's game I will miss next season. Her tantrums aren't one of them.

And it's terrifying to think about life without Jackson...

Yeah, it might look a lot like life with Rae Burrell. You seem to forget that Jackson was just not mysteriously left on the LVs door step with a message, "please take care of my baby." Kellie recruited her and so maybe wait and see before you get all "terrified" and by that of course you mean hoping and praying that impending gap is not filled.

Justinne would be playing more if she deserved to play more and earned time in practice and in games. Time to stop acting like Justinne is getting the raw end of the deal because she was a 5 star recruit and should get more time. She is no longer a recruit. She is a D1 player and must earn her minutes. It is just that simple.
Look at the time Betts gets at Stanford and she was the Number one Recruit. She is currently getting about 8 minutes per game and Justine minutes for the Season average 6.5 minutes per game. Just because they are highly rated recruits does not entitle them to 20 minutes per game. They are freshmen in division one basketball. Their time will come. We have had to play freshmen the last few years out of necessity. That isn't the case this year.

I don't think Wynn is going anywhere. KJH really loves her, I remember her saying she had been watching film just with her one on one and has said a couple of times what a great kid she is. I still think Wynn has potential, at least as a role player. Miles I can see going, esp if they get a young guard out of the portal. Until recently I would have said Sara wasn't going, but now not so sure. Maybe she decides a smaller school would fit her more. I'd hate to see it, but it's really hard to see her so down.
Why is it when someone has a few bad games or don't play very many minutes all of a sudden they are going to transfer? I don't get it. Players have slumps and players spend time on the bench when that is happening. What do you think as they move on to a career? Couple bad days at work and time to move to a new job? Kellie hasn't lost many over the last 3 years. Emily left for more playing time and she doesn't really get too much more at Youngstown State and Destiny was basically dismissed although that was kept quiet. Who else left and why does everyone think cause a player isn't playing 30 + minutes a night that they are ready to pack their bags and transfer?

Puckett can play--but her minutes are way down this year and I suspect she's pressing. Even if she were making shots, I doubt
she'd be playing more than 10 minutes. She seldom plays more than 8 minutes (6 today)--and it's natural to want to make an impact
when you know your PT is going to be limited. Hell, it takes 5 minutes to get your body warmed up and in the flow of a game--and that
may be a better approach for her than coming in and firing up a couple of shots right away.
On the season Pucket averages 16.2 minutes per game and in the SEC over 17 per game. She plays about as much as all of the fill ins. 4 players average close to 30 a game and then the next 5 average between 16-18. Puckett is among that list.

I know... she was really frustrated yesterday, it was visible..

Hard to find a lot of freshmen getting a lot of time. The best seem to be in the fifteen minute range and then below that amount of time. That is what the portal has done as well. Everyone getting players from the portal make their freshmen sit more.

The way players get to play is when you put them in there they make a difference. If you want to play more when you get your shot don't over think it and make a lot of mistakes both offensively and defensively. The players playing the best have to play. I think Powell elevated herself yesterday. So some other players minutes are going to suffer. Seems our lineup of Hollingshead, Jackson, Horston, Darby, and Powell were the best yesterday. It could be someone else anytime they get in the game if they play well and help the team.

I actually think Sara could be a solid P5 level player. She was recruited by Jeff Walz and Vic Shaefer. I just don't think her game fits well in the SEC and/or Kellie's system.
I still think running Xs and Os schemes for Sara and other three points shooters WOULD help without a doubt. She's good getting off shots wide open , less when someone has a hand in her grill. She'll shoot her way out of whatever funk is bothering her.

All it takes is a little motion, a pass, and a screen to get off a three point shot. IMO you really don't need plays, just reacting to what the defense is giving you.

Sara should have probably had her minutes cut by now. She does not have the sort of upside where you let someone play through it. You should play her if she is productive, and play someone else if she is not. Just doling out minutes without concern for production gets you beaten and is bad for team chemistry.

You aren't really doing Sara any favors either by leaving her out there to struggle to the point that her confidence is broken.

It was nice to see Wynn flash signs of a little improvement lately. She had a nice assist in this last game to go along with her defense, and she hit some shots she usually misses in a game not too long ago.

We should hope that Powell comes on late in the season and plays better than Walker at PG. That would help this team a lot in the tournaments, where you must have good PG play. The way Hollingshead and Darby are improving game by game, if Powell makes significant strides, we may have a team that can make some noise in March.

Powell's 2nd really solid game where she was probably more effective than Walker. It was a bummer she was called for a walk on her scoring drive at the end of 2nd quarter. That was another case where most of the time officials don't call that little stutter step but.....

I envision that it continue to be a back and forth between the two because we have Jordan W. look like a world better in a few games. I think the crucial issue is that at least one of them is "on" during a game.

Evina and Mimi Collins transferred during the change over from Holly to Kellis. Mimi was all about Holly so that change was a not shocker. And the relationship the fan base (and Evina and her mom) had gotten quite toxic. Evina had no love loss for Tennessee. I would not treat their situation as the norm.
