Game Thread: UT @ Auburn, Sunday; 12PM, ESPN2 win 83-76

When you typically shoot 25%2P, 10%3P, and 50%FT, any shot you make seems remarkable.

This is true. But she looks like she has been working on her form. Hard to tell from such a small sample size, but that is what my eyes tell me. And I was one of the first ones to say what a mess it was when she got here. That is something that takes a long time to retool so I am sure she has a long ways to go to reach an acceptable level of accuracy, but it was nice to see improvement in her mechanics.

And I don't think she even knew what the word "assist" meant when she got here. If she could add that to go along with her defense she could carve out a role for herself while she tries to improve her shot.

Dak are you counting Evina and that year ? Also why was Destiny basically dismissed?
Evina was on her way out at the end of the Warlick era as was Mimi Collins. Kellie Coached neither of them. I am not sure why Salary was dismissed, but there was mention of that.

“She had a nice assist in this last game to go along with her defense, and she hit some shots she usually misses in a game not too long ago.”

I understand your hoping Wynn can become a basketball player. I was actually excited about her coming here, and yes, she had a nice assist in the Arkansas game.

For scoring though, “a game not too long ago,” in this case, means 9 games ago, because that is when she last scored. She made 1 field goal (and 2-4 free throws) on January 8, against Vanderbilt, and nothing since. In 23 games, Wynn has a total of 4 assists, 12 of 44 field goal attempts, and 12 turnovers. I’m sure she is a nice girl, but she is a track runner learning basketball, and it’s not just mechanics she’s lacking, it’s also basketball IQ, which is needed not just on Offense, but on Defense as well.

It does look like Kellie has taken her under her wing, and will help her capitalize on her athleticism, so we’ll see how that goes. I used to be an Emily supporter, we all like to see an underdog win.

Another option, which Kellie does not seem to like, is having more than one three point threat on the floor.
the ones who are considered the 3pt shooters on this team are your least athletic players and you would lack on the defensive end and because they are mostly spot up shooters they can also be defended more easily so imo that might be the reason

You certainly read a LOT more into my comments than was there. I am looking at her as a four year project and just made an observation as to what has shown up thus far. You seem to want to litigate it and think I am advocating for her in some fashion. I am not. We are more or less on the same page with her, except I am not sure her basketball IQ is as bad as you think. She has too many other limitations, and has had too little playing time, for that to be apparent right now.

It would be easier for her to do that if any of our scholarship PGs were good 3P shooters.

In my LV fantasy league here is a combo I would like to see. It would be a five minute line-up.

Version 1:

Horston, Jackson, Hollingshead, Darby, and Pissott.

In that set-up, Jordan becomes the PG. You have Holllingshead to protect the paint (in a perfect world, it would be Key), Jackson and Horston can cover the main scoring threats. so, maybe a little defensive vulnerability but offensively, you have two players spreading the floor and opening up space for the other 3, On a night where Tess and Justine are hitting, that is a headache for the opposing team.
Now, that line-up gets blown-up if the team is good at pressing because Jordan is not great at bringing the ball up under pressure.

So version 2 would kick in when Kellie gives either Jordan H or Rickea a rest and Walker or Powell step into the PG spot.

I can dig it. Horston already does as much ball handling as the designated PGs. I don't think her dribbling the ball up the court changes her role that much, but others, including CKH, are dead set against it.

We should hope that Powell comes on late in the season and plays better than Walker at PG. That would help this team a lot in the tournaments, where you must have good PG play. The way Hollingshead and Darby are improving game by game, if Powell makes significant strides, we may have a team that can make some noise in March.

we just played a team that had four guards and at times both Jazzy and JoJo were on the court together and it worked

Against 82nd (NET) ranked Auburn. Would you rather have both of them on the floor or the better of them at point guard plus an additional 3 point shooter?

Edit - got Arkansas confused with Auburn on the first try.

Why they struggle against the better more athletic teams but look solid against mediocre teams.
