Guys i looked for this name and couldn't find it anywhere in the thread titles and i really do want Gruden first but i watched TCU play Texas the other night and I know Texas is down this year but Gary Patterson is an excellent head coach and motivator. His defense is amazing and he has been said to have one of if not the best scheming ability minds in the game.

Patterson would be good....probably 3rd on the list after Gruden and Stoops/Gundy.

The best thing about him is he can coach up players. He already has some really good ones here. He could win here. Recruiting is a worry but i believe he could do it and we could keep jay Graham and Sam Pittman more than likely

Well, he doesn't really have to. Whether or not he can recruit outside of TN (as in bring TX talent to TN, etc.), which he would have to do here, is a legitimate concern.

Exactly, and with Mack Brown looking like he's more than likely on the way out, outside of Nick Saban, who else would Texas hire??

Mack Brown won't be gone before we find a new coach. Not everyone will pull a Kiffin on us...

I'm saying he would stay at TCU, for a chance to coach Texas. Texas would pay him more than we would, and he wouldn't have to work near as hard for talent.

Valid....

As an old college professor once told me, "the top is what you make it." For some, that isn't the SEC.

I think Patterson will wait for the Texas job to open up. Might come sooner than expected after he put a beating on them this weekend.

He would be 3rd for me behind Gruden and Stoops

4.25 million for 6 years with the whole contract guaranteed. 3.5 million for his staff per year and to get Bumpas a big raise. Randy Shannon coaching LB's here.

Great option IMO.

Too bad that "Muschamp as coach in waiting" thing didn' work out...

It still might. People said the reason Muschamp was not hired here is because he wanted a clause in his contract that said he could leave at any time with no buyout for a head coaching job at UGA or Texas. If Mack is sent packing, UF could be in a bad spot.

Second that...if and when they can Brown, Patterson will be knocking on their door with pen in hand. He probably smells blood in that Texas water, especially what they pay Brown.
