Has anyone heard their opinion on these 2 coaches? There is another thread on Zach Azzanni and FL that got me thinking about our coaches with SEC experience.

All I can say is I am glad Martinez isn't our DC. Remember Georgia in 2009?

From what I understand they're regarded as good position coaches, great recruiters. Martinez is a Sal Sunseri type where he's a good coach as long as he stays at position. Coordinating/play-calling? Not his forte.

100% this.

Working/living in Georgia, most of the UGA fans have nothing good to say about CWM, mostly because they're still butthurt from the 2009 season. It's like the Arian Foster years for us--people are quick to remember the fumbles that cost us big, but forgot how many other great games he had. Likewise, people are quick to point out how much Martinez sucked as a DC, but forget how well he recruited and how much better of a position coach he was.

Until proven wrong, I think we're going to be fine with CWM.

Just because your not DC/OC material doesn't mean your not a good position coach.I work with a lot of UGA fans in Chattanooga and they say horrible things about Martinez.

I would too. They have first rate talent and in their position, they would compare themselves to bama and other elite units. Problem is, they dont compare. UT ,SC, Bama, etc. hang big points on them. Fla. was their best game...

Martinez was UGA's defensive coordinator from 2005-2008 but 2009 Jancek and Martinez were co-defensive coordinators for them. Richt fired both of them after that season.

No offense but I've never heard anyone call John Jancek a great defensive coordinator. He was the co-coordinator at UGA for 1 year before being fired. Jancek was then co-coordinator at Cincinnati for 2 years and coordinator for 1. Maybe he will do well here I don't know but as a defensive coordinator his experience is pretty limited.

Defensive Coordinator Cincinnati Bearcats 2012

Co-Defensive Coordinator Cincinnati Bearcats 2011

Co-Defensive Coordinator Cincinnati Bearcats 2010

Co-Defensive Coordinator Georgia Bulldogs 2009

Never heard that about Jancek and I live in Ga. To be honest I have never heard of him until Tn hired him. Ga people say Jancek and especially WM are good position coaches. Most didn't want WM fired , just didn't want him as a DC. Basically said Jancek was a good LB coach.

Nailed it, general consensus seems to be that they are both are very good position coaches.

I hope Jancek don't end up being Sal 2.0.
That's what scares me.

Even as loyal as CBJ is I think he is smart enough and tough enough to make a quick change at DC if he needs to. Still I'm surprised he didn't go after a big time DC when he was hired. One of the first things I heard when he was hired is that he had talked to Jancek about moving down to just LB'er coach if he decided to move in that direction but nothing ever came of it. I think CBJ wanted the staff settled fast for recruiting.

Cincinnati's defensive stats were impressive under Jancek and Sripling. I think we are good to go. Sal was a joke of a D coordinator

Hate to be this guy but the consensus view among the UGA fans that I know is that Jancek and Martinez were terrible hires. They seem to think Jones was a pretty strong hire but basically Jancek and Martinez are Sal Sunseri to them (embarrassing defense, don't ever want to see them wearing Georgia colors again, etc.)

Jancek only called defensive plays for one year at Cincinnati before 2012 Tim Banks called all the defensive sets/plays. Jancek's job was to get them ready but he had no game day responsibility. Jancek did call plays in 2012 and they were ok but they also played a horrible schedule.

I didn't know these guys were part of CBJ's D-staff. These guys took some pretty good talent at UGA and coached them to worse than mediocre. Martinez might be one of the worst coordinators ever at UGA. For UT's sake, maybe they improved. You never know.
