Georgia opens -9.5 vs Vols

Road struggles and lethargic offense. Seems about right.
Lethargic? I am sorry, but no.

We are moving the ball with relative ease every game. We've had over 400 yards of offense in each of the last 3 games. We just keep shooting ourselves in the foot when we get into scoring position. Between turnovers on the opposite side of the 50 yard line and missed FGs alone, we've left at least 40-50 points on the field since the Oklahoma game. The kicking game did a great job righting the ship this past weekend, but we still turned the ball over twice inside the 5 yard line (granted one of those was on downs).

We have to take better care of the ball (specifically Sampson and Nico). Nico is doing better at that lately, but he still has the occasional "What are you doing?" sort of play.

Even with Nico, I don’t expect him to be 100 percent. That will hurt us.
Few players are 100% at this point of the season. They're all managing pain.

If his injury is a concussion as some have speculated then he's either "100%" or he doesn't play. Fairly straight forward when dealing with a brain injury these days. In the old days, guys played through concussions. Some didn't remember weeks of their lives to include games they played in. I oppose a lot of the sissification of football... but holding guys out who have concussions is a good rule.

Has anyone reported it as a concussion? The hit looked like it could have caused whiplash or even a shoulder tear. It didn’t look like it should have rocked the brain that hard though.

It is a lot more intimidating place to play than Norman or Fayetteville and we struggled a little at both (especially Fayetteville). Granted, I think your post was a joke post but I could be wrong.
Fayetteville must be pretty intimidating since we haven't beaten them there since 2001(13-3) and played them there 4 times.

True but records are always tricky unless you play the team every year or very often because it could have been that Arkansas just caught Tennessee when they were down and Arkansas was good on those years.

Given the way the D regularly rises to the occasion in big games, Carson Beck isn’t magically going to be a better decision maker next week. I don’t care that they’re coming off a loss. Kirby Smart ain’t out there playing.

Beck isn't their biggest issue. They're just not as good up front as they have been in recent years. Tennessee should be able to get good pressure on Beck, and I feel our OL will outplay their DL.

Just on offense. D just needs to clean up the run defense and they should be fine. UGA a little more traditional offense than State with a less mobile QB.

OL has to play it's best game of the season though.
On the plus side, UGA is not much of a running threat at RB. Etienne is touch and go depending on the week and the opponent. Beck is only an occasional runner, and is currently dialed in to opponent DB's.

no respect for Tennessee.
I was thinking about this last night. Why are people reluctant when it comes to Tennessee? Because we have yet to ball out against a formidable opponent.

We have seen Georgia do so against TX and for a half against Bama.. Both were road games.

Bama just manhandled LSU, and we saw them pummel Georgia in the first half of that game which they won.

Ole Miss just pounded Georgia.

While TX hasn’t beaten a comparable opponent, their only loss is to Georgia, and they destroyed teams we struggled to beat.

So, while there is more parity and less consistency in the SEC this year, we have yet to see our team play up to its capability, but we have seen flashes of greatness in these other teams.

Based on what I have seen, I have Georgia #1, TX #2, Bama #3 and Ole Miss #4. If we beat Georgia, and win out then I think we will arguably be the best team in the SEC. For now, I have us at 5, SC at 6, A&M at 7 and LSU at 8.

Had Nico stayed in the game, and Sampson not fumbled the football in the red zone again, I think we would have beaten Missippi St by another 21 points at least and Nico would have had a 325+ yard game for us to make the argument that we should be considered one of those top 4 teams, but unfortunately that’s not what happened.

So, we will have to wait and see the results of the Georgia game. If the game is anything like it has been in the past, any ill feelings up to this feeling are all for naught. If we win, or perhaps take Georgia down to the wire, we will get our respect and any ill feelings will be all for naught.

Tennessee’s hopes for getting in will plummet if we lose—especially if we lose badly. However, we won’t be completely out of the picture. Of course, we will still have to beat Vandy away, and we have already watched Vandy beat Bama and take TX down to the wire at home, but other teams will have their work cut out for them.

I think our best chances to still get in go through Texas or TA&M. Texas has not beaten a playoff team this year and will also have lost to the same playoff team at home and got whipped. So, again, keeping that game in Athens close is still imperative.

Still, TX has 3 SEC games left. Arkansas on the road, and Kentucky and A&M at home. The most likely to beat them is A&M. If they lose that game, and win the others they are sitting at 2 losses with no playoff team wins, while Tennessee will be sitting at 2 losses with one playoff team wins.

A&M will, on the other hand have 2 losses and one POTENTIAL playoff team win. But, if TX is voted out due to that loss to A&M, then they can’t say they have a playoff team win. Not to mention they have a REALLY BAD loss to SC later in the season, whereas TN barely lost to Arkansas away early in the season.

There are other paths, but when you look at them, I think they are highly unlikely.

Ole Miss has FLA on the road and Miss St at home. I think they hammer both teams, as they are playing their best football right now.

Georgia plays UMass which is a gimme and still has GA Tech who just beat Miami. Thing is, Tech’s slim chances of pulling off that upset get slimmer with that game being an away game.

Bama had Mercer Oklahoma and Auburn. All three games should be easy wins. Oklahoma will be an away game, but they aren’t even the team we played anymore. I don’t think Auburn makes it interesting at all this year. They could only put up one TD against Vandy at home.

All this said, all this only matters if they take 4 SEC teams. We win out, we are in. Should we be expected to win this game based on what we have seen from all teams? I don’t think so, but maybe this is the game we put it all together and play our best foootball of the year.

GO VOLS!!!

It can be Georgia -20 for all I care. Whatever motivates the Vols. Tennessee didn't exactly come out swinging at Oklahoma or Arkansas.

One thing I am excited about is we have been very conservative lately. Playing not to lose. Working the clock. This is the game you open up the playbook and put everything on the line. Maybe we can see some of that past offensive brilliance we have been missing since the Oklahoma game.

Not sure. I just saw some early speculation. Heupel's post-game comment that he would be ready to go for UGA seemed to support that notion.
