I realize that HatVol has a pretty decent amount of basketball knowledge, but the way some of the (presumed) grown men on this website slobber over him is pretty disturbing.

i'm just throwing in my view on players getting themselves kicked off and hurting the team is their own fault really; i dont think i'm anyway in the argument this has all getting into

there are though god only knows how many players that hindsight's 20-20 on and get kicked off of teams at every school; scouting can miss alot everywhere

I have no problem with that. The Windham brothers could probably use the work. They could cap the show by having Barry lariat Einstein the Parrot.

You guys do love to knob slobber on hatvol.
Devoe stats are comparible maybe even a little better than Pearls. But didn't he coach in the late 70's early 80's? That was almost 30 years ago and look at the roller coaster TN bball has been on since. We are finally again considered a top tier program. I still think the Pearl haters are will never be happy unless we are in the final four every year.

The Elite 8 one year would be enough to get me to shut up. But.... who needs standards high like that, i mean, it's not like we're in the late 70's or early 80's when basketball success was just handed out if you were willing to field a team.

As far as your 2nd comment. How about he just start by showing improvement in the tourney. Do you think that you will see it this year?

he coached until 89 so that's not really 30 yrs. Many of us watched even way back then

Here's how I view a coach's "success". Big regular season wins are something you can look at recruits and say "Look at this, this is an example of how good we have the potential to be". Post season wins are how you judge coaches overall though. The NCAA is when you are going to get every team's best shot because everyone is going to bring it hard. They do not want to go home, they want to send you packing and keep playing. And to anyone who's going to ask me "Who we can get"...our coach is in the top 20 in pay in the nation right now. We can bring in a hell of a coach for $2 mill, considering the facilities we have and the recruiting hotbed we have in-state(Memphis)

Okay I was 10 when Devoe resigned, so I don't remember how great we were than. So I did some research. Here's what I found. He inhereted a talented team and went to the NCAA. Then he went to four more NCAA tourneys, for the most part using players he inherited. His teams never went past the Sweet sixteen. In the end he coached 11 years going to 6 NCAA playoffs, one sec title and a few trips to the NIT. So know being lo i don't remember much about him, but he doesn't seem to impressive to me. Keep trying.
