Georgia Tech interested in Bruce Pearl???

What about when CPF was fired?

Yea because Kiffin and the staff he assembled was so bad that USC desired to steal them away.

At what point do we get rid of the stigma that no one wants to come coach at UT in the BBall Program?

I understand the frustration...I want them to win all the games, be in the final four evry year, and so on...but I also realize where this program has been, being a fan for almost 30 years. Look at Williams over at Chapel hill...supposedly the best of the best, compared this season to Haiti...got a bench loaded with Mcdonald's AA..bet he wishes he had CBP's record this year.
I just get tired of all the negativity on here about CBP, ridiculous to me.

the point is it's not ridiculous at all. Pointing out issues with certain parts of his coaching is legit. No one is expecting final 4's every year just improvement.

And RW won a NC last year and basically lost that squad to the NBA. I'm sure Bruce would trade for that in a heartbeat.

probably about the same time we as fans start realizing that we've got it pretty good here, and it's been a lot worse in recent memory....

We?

At no point during Lane's tenure here did I think it was better off with the Failmer Regime here.

That's where complacency becomes a problem.

Does it not bug the hell out of you that there is very little improvement and it's the same problems each and every game, each and every year?

I stated earlier that I'd love to have a program that's name recruits for itself, but we don't. I believe we're striving to get there though. I went to school during the Houston/O'Neill regimes, and believe me it wasn't fun. Buzzball is complacency, not what we got today. I'm not gonna sit here and start making excuses for this staff, because the reasons are obvious to me. We've got a great class coming in next year, and if things stay at the level they're at now with NO improvement, then maybe I'll start wondering. But for now, the level is fine with me.

I kinda liked the KO years. His teams were going to play you hard no matter how talented they were. Plus JG rode his guys to a few tourney appearances so his recruiting was coming along as well. We saw what he did to UT this season too.

think you were in the minority there...I remember many nigts in TBO when there were'nt 10k in there, not even close. Green, now talk about a underachieving team...

Then why is it so sickening and wrong when others see that the path we're on is not going to be very successful?

You dislike people that see some indicators that you don't see, or that see them before you?

because I see things differently I dislike you?...ok, grow some thicker skin..

You posted in another thread that it was sickening to you the hatred on here.

Excuse me for thinking you couldn't differentiate between disagreeing with someone and disliking them.

Also, my skin is plenty thick. Don't ever think anything you say would have the slightest effect on me.

good day...

maybe so but we had also just gotten past the Houston years. Also if Pearl had the same talent and record KO had he would not have sold out TBA either. Not to mention an AD who did not support bball at all.

You're right about Dickey....but as I remember, CBP didn't exactly have a favorable bunch when he got here, but by the time they had developed they were giant killers...but I guess that has nothing to do with our staff..

people who think he is not the greatest coach UT has ever had (or will ever have) are not necessarily anti-Pearl. Sometimes it seems that way because some say he can do no wrong. Pointing out deficiencies in his coaching is not the same as saying you wish him fired. It's just frustrating to watch certain scenarios play out every year/game.

This is what I find so amazing -- that there are so many posters on here who are unable to make that distinction. I like Pearl; I think he's generally a good coach; but at the same time he clearly has some things he needs to improve on. His teams have the same consistent flaws year after year. Yet you can't talk about those problems at all without having people jump all over you about how you're a hater, How Can You Want Pearl Fired, Have You Forgotten About Wade Houston, Who You Gonna Get That's Better, etc. Apparently you either think he's the Savior Of Tennessee Basketball or you want him fired. It's ridiculous.

Nicely said.

There are three groups of UT BBall fans:
1. Bruce can do no wrong
2. Bruce can do no good
3. Normal people

I grew up watching some good DeVoe teams, then watching a series of mediocre to awful Houston-O'Neill teams, then watching a bunch of talented but frustrating ballers sans organization (who eventually imploded) under Green, then watching some poorly coached Buzz teams who never had a chance.

I know O'Neill was a better Xs and Os coach than his record indicated, but regardless, those were not fun years to be a UT fan. So based on my experience, without a doubt Pearl has accomplished way more than any other UT bball coach I've witnessed.

Yes, he's not the sharpest Xs and Os guy, and neither are a lot of "winning" coaches, Calipari included. Pearl also doesn't recruit the smartest players either, and neither does Cal (for the most part). That's why Pearl's less-talented teams can hang with Cal's teams (be it Memphis or Kentucky), and why teams coached by Billy Clyde and O'Neill can out-smart more talented Pearl teams.

In fact, the main difference between Cal and Pearl are 3 Elite Eights, some infractions and some inferior in-conference competition. Both are good recruiters and motivators, but both have their imperfections.

Now, Cal may win his first NC with Kentucky, perhaps this year - they're talented enough to do so. And he also might put the program on probation. Yet it's perfectly acceptable here to place Cal stratospheres higher and belittle Pearl. Yet, had Ramar not gotten his shot blocked by Oden, or had a couple calls gone our way against Wichita State, we might not be having any arguments about Pearl. The NCAA Tourney is that fickle and difficult.

And unless we go out and hire Tom Izzo, Rick Pitino, Bill Self, Roy Williams, Mike K., Ben Howland and a handful of other coaches, I choose not to expect too much more - Pearl gets us in the mix every year, and if and when we breaks through past the Sweet 16, I'll be thrilled.

This problem is everywhere. You cant criticize Fulmer, Dooley, Hamilton, Peyton, etc without being labelled a hater. And if you defend them your a Fulmerite, etc. There's no middle ground.

he wouldn't leave for GT. Serious Pearl bashers don't know anything about college basketball, just like most posters here on the bball side of VN. Either that or they don't have a good perspective on the tennessee basketball program
