The SEC outside of 2 maybe 3 teams (on good years) is a pretty mediocre conference. Being a top heavy conference with blatant favoritism shown to those 2-3 teams hurts the league.

Yes that is what has to happen to get Bama into this. Folks are used to the SEC always has a team and a 1 loss SEC champion automatically gets in, etc. But this year is different.

In a typical year you don't have an undefeated PAC10 team and you don't have a BIG12 champion that beat the potential SEC champion. And you don't have two potential other undefeated conference champs in the mix. It may be a year where the SEC champ needs to be undefeated.

The irony of all this if it were to happen is that the teams that left the PAC10 and BIG12 did so because they were being left out of the big games.
