Get Ready For ND

The Irish should be used to losing now, having posted the third losing record in five seasons for the first time in 115 years of Irish football. Notre Dame has not finished a season in the top 10 since 1993. The performances they are putting on the field these days makes the Irish yearn for the return of Gerry Faust.

Historically, the Vols have posted a 4-2 record vs the Irish in convincing fashion.

2001 at South Bend - Vols win 28-18
1999 at Knoxville - Vols win 38-14
1991 at South Bend - Vols win 35-34
1990 at Knoxville - #1 Irish win 34-29
1979 at Knoxville - Vols win 40-18
1978 at South Bend - Irish win 31-14

1991- blocked FG at the half! Damn what a game! after that I knew we had that game - I felt it in my heart! One of UT's greatest victories of all time! :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper:

After the Florida game I am a little worried about playing at TN. If the officials will give TN the game against Florida, they may do it against the Irish. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to make it a decisive enough victory where the officials can't cheat us out of the game!

GO IRISH!!!

The refs will be the least of your problems. I don't blame you for talking a little smack though. It's been a long time since you guys have even been decent. Enjoy it now....before it ends.

Michigan barely beat San Diego State this weekend. They still have a good team but they are far from where they were just a few years ago, and i am doubtful they will be seeing a BCS bowl anywhere but on TV.

My only worries about the ND game is if they key on our weakness to the playfake. Otherwise I can only see Tennessee lose if they go with a conservative gameplan or get too full of themselves. Tennessee has historically had a problem with overlooking teams or getting too high on themselves (like when Peyton lost to Memphis.... Memphis fans STILL bring that up. Notre Dame seems to be pretty balanced between run and pass and has always had a strong team overall and the freshman running back they "found" will probably put a hurting on us, so it will not be a gimme. I still think Tennessee is too talented and fast to get beat, especially at home. ND might abuse our tendency to overpursue and break off a few big plays, but in the end we should come out ahead.

Oh and to the overzealous ND fan... You only beat Michigan because of fluke plays.. 2 instanes of horrible special teams sealed the deal. I would also say the interception was another fit of luck you shouldnt see vs Tennessee but we also have Freshman QBs (though i think of all the Frosh QBs in the nation we have the top 2) who could make a poor pass like Ainge did throwing across his body and letting it sail on him.

I still say Ainge is a Favre clone and will scrap his way to somehow will us into a victory. Of course I also think Schaeffer just needs to get "the vision" ie start to feel the pressure and get rid of the ball/scramble. Sometimes he gets too jumpy and leaves the pocket early, sometimes he hangs in too long and get clocked... most of which so far have led to fumbles.

ps. Tennessee also has the "secret weapon". Just wait till the next televised game and you will see.... Everytime they show Jim Bob Cooter on the screen tennessee comes up with a big play.

:pepper: :peace2: Jim Bob Cooter for President :peace2: :pepper:

I think Notre Dame will be tougher to defeat than you give them credit for, Austin. Tennessee really needs to step up the defense if they want to put a solid stomp on any of the top 25.

UT by 17, Purdue will thump just before UT does the same!
Jason you'll have a better chance rooting for Powell

Tell me your joking! ND dominated the second half vs. Michigan. I'm not quite sure what you meant by "instanes" (maybe it's something out of the hillybilly dictionary I don't have access to), but that game was much more than two plays.

I do agree that ND needs to worry about Purdue (I'm going to the game by the way). I think that Purdue and USC are the two toughest teams left on ND's schedule. Purdue should be ranked in the top 10 and will provide a real test. I think Tenn. is the 3rd toughest game left, but it is still a major challenge. I feel confident that the most successful program in college football history (11 National Championships, 7 Heisman trophy winners, and the all time college football winning percentage) will pull out a victory against a team from very overated SEC.
I guess all we can do is wait till game day.......
GO IRISH!!!

The only thing overrated here is your team and their competition which it seems is getting kicked by everyone around the country. What do ND and the Big Ten have in common? OVERRATED!

#42
#42
SEC = Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, LSU, Georgia

Big Ten = Purdue, Minnesota, Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin

I dunno, tough to say who is more overrated, or if either are.

Notre Dame is not overrated :nono: , because no one is fooled by one win vs. a lame team. Your time will come and you will hear it so bad you probably will run and hide.

S.E.C overrated :yikes: , come on! First look at the top 25.

-Coach's poll-
3.Georgia
8.Tennessee
10.Auburn
13.LSU
16.Florida

And Arkansas should have beaten Texas!

If you are going to bring up history, the Vols have 6 National Championships, 3 stolen Heisman's, and Michigan owns the all time college football winning percentage.

Go ahead and believe that the SEC is overrated, but don't believe for a second the Vols are overhyped. In fact, the major networks take every opportunity they can to bash the Vols. The Irish are the most overhyped team of all time. Win at least 8 games and the voters automatically vote them in the top 10?? :bad: The Vols have never been afraid to play good teams from around the country.... and have wins over Miami (fla), Michigan, Syracuse, Fresno State, and Marshall the past several seasons.

Now let's look at some facts: Notre Dame was 5-7 last season. Notre Dame is not currently ranked. Notre Dame lost to unranked BYU. Notre Dame beat a Michigan team that barely escaped with a win over San Diego State and is lucky to be ranked (18). Notre Dame also won over a mediocre Michigan State team.

Let's look at the upcoming Notre Dame schedule:

Current BCS rank in ( ).

WashingtonHuskies3.GIF

(75) Washington -- Notre Dame should win this one. (3-1)

PurdueBoilermakers3.GIF

(15) Purdue -- Home loss for the Irish. (3-2)

StanfordCardinal2.GIF

(30) Stanford -- Another home loss for the Irish. Stanford beat BYU (which beat Notre Dame) by a score of 37-10. (3-3)

Navy3.GIF

(55) Navy -- Should win this one, but the Midshipmen may be 5-0 when these two teams meet. Coach Paul Johnson (formerly at I-AA powerhouse Georgia Southern) has this team playing well. (4-3)

BCEagles8.GIF

(27) Boston College -- Rivalry game could go either way. If the Irish are any good at all, they should win. (5-3)

TennesseeVolunteers2.GIF

(9) Tennessee -- Should be a full house (109,000). I think the Irish lose this one big. Notre Dame no longer has the talent to compete against the top teams. (5-4)

PittsburghPanthers.GIF

(63) Pittsburgh -- The Panthers are down this season. The Irish should win. (6-4)

USCTrojans2.GIF

(1) Southern Cal -- Even with 2 weeks to prepare, the Irish won't magically become talented. This will be another blowout loss like at UT. (6-5)

Note: The Washington, Navy, Boston College, and Pittsburgh games are not gimmes. If the Irish should stumble against any one of these... they'll finish with a losing record and be looking for a new coach.

I love these posts! Tenn. should have 3 Heismans (they don't), Arkansas should have beaten Texas (they didn't), Michigan has the all time winning percentage (not true, ND took the lead again by beating Michigan), and please don't start comparing the difficulty of the schedule (ND has played everyone from every conference: Miami, Florida State, Oklahoma, Michigan, USC, Nebraska, etc.).

Believe me, I know Tenn. has a good program and a good tradition, but ND is THE program in the NCAA. You can go to any corner of the country and find people interested in the Irish. Tenn. may be big in the South, but you rarely hear about them on the west coast, east coast or in the midwest. I also realize that the Tenn. game will be a big game and a challenge for ND, but please don't try and compare yourselves to the Irish, you only make yourself look foolish.

GO IRISH!!!

The irish can't carry Tennessee's jock strap, and who cares what the rest of the country thinks, UT is a premier football program playing in the toughest conference in the country!

If ND were in the SEC they would be fighting Vandy to stay out of last place in the conference every year!
