If this guy wants to start at tailback in the SEC, he's going to have to add 25 to 30 pounds minimum while still maintaining his speed and explosiveness. He'll be a wide receiver.

saying he is going to be a reciever is probaly the dumbest thing i have heard all day.. he will be a runing back and a great one.. hes rated as one of the most explosve backs in the nation and hes staying there

Stephens never weighed more than 200. Creer is about 200. Hardesty is about 200. Coker was about 200.

This kid can be an effective RB in the SEC with 10-15 lbs which is almost a given... even if they moved him to WR.

hey.... if we pick up one more four star from now until signing day we tie the amount of 4*'s we had last year i'd say better start this year amounts to a better class

Gaither HS is 5A in Florida, which I believe is the 2nd best class.

Yeah they're 5a which is probably behind 6a and 4a in the state in terms of competition. Still, with the exception of Dade county, no area produces the athletes that Hillsborough County does, and rushing for 1500 and 20tds as a JR. is exceptional. Not to mention Gaither is not a traditional football powerhouse by any standards, which leads me to believe Giles has a less than stellar line in front of him.

ESPN/scouts Inc. seems to love this kid

Huge addition for the Vols with running back Jarvis Giles

Jarvis Giles, an ESPN 150 Watch List talent, committed to Tennessee Friday over Louisville, Clemson, Nebraska and Arkansas, the Knoxville News Sentinel reports.
His relationship with first-year running backs coach Stan Drayton was a big factor in the decision.

ESPN's Billy Tucker elaborated on the pledge, "The Volunteers may have landed one of the more underrated backs in the country in the eyes of the Scouts Inc. staff. Sounds like he wanted to get out of the Sunshine State, but we are surprised one of thes big three in-state schools didn't put the clamps on him; Giles is a special back."
"Giles' burst and explosion through the hole may be the best in this great running back class, and his overall suddenness through traffic is just as rare. His ability to reach top-speed quickly allows him to hit the seams just as they open and quickly shred through opposing defenses and into the second level. Will need to add some bulk to carry the load at Tennessee but that might not be his role."
"Giles joins fellow ESPN 150 Watch List running back Dominique Allen (Paris, Tenn./Henry County) in Tennessee's 2009 class, and the two could develop into a "Thunder and Lightning" type package in Knoxville during their careers. Giles has homerun potential on any given carry and Allen has fullback size and power with tailback feet to wear down a defense."
"Giles and Allen will be learning a new offensive under recently hired coordinator Dave Clawson for the Vol's."

Like I said, if he wants to be a starting tailback in the SEC, he has to add a lot of weight. At his current weight, he's a 3rd down change of pace.

lovin it!!!! Drayton now looks like an awesome hire... as said above "its surprising one of the big three in fla didn't put the clamps on him," Well now we have a fla recuiter and he just had a great start

Watching Giles video for the first time and its pretty clear hes going to be something special. He has remarkable vision for a JR in HS. Most HS film on rbs are of them hitting a huge hole and blowing people away or making cuts on a single DB who never had a chance but his video is different. He really shows his ability to run inside, 80% of his film if not more is between the tackles.

At first I wanted Oku more but just now from watching Giles film, I think we have the better of the two.

I agree. Giles looks to be a huge pick up.

Wouldn't hurt to get Oku or Wingo too.

Whatever happened to Wingo as a UT prospect?

Thomas Brown from UGA played RB and he's only 185. He started games all 4 seasons of his career. Also, he's only going to be a SR this year and has plenty of time to bulk up. I'd say 10-15lbs and he'll be just fine for SEC play.

People kill me with this weight stuff. You realize he's not even a senior in high school yet right? He will put on the weight no problem.

In one article I thought it was really cool the way he talked up Pat Summit, mentioning that “I love that lady to death, I almost had a heart attack.”

Talking about weight, do you guys realize that Joe McNight is only 190, and Noel Devine is only 170lbs? Wouldn't mind either of those guys wearing the orange.:whistling:

The last time I looked, those players were in the defensively soft PAC-10 and Big East conferences.
