Gilliam out with torn ACL

Does anyone know which quarter he left the game? I was there but I don't remember.

I don't mean any disrespect to Jacob Gilliam but, our offense seemed to be much better in the 2nd half of the game, so if he went down before then, I think adjustments were made and Team 118 will be fine.

IIRC he went down with about 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

Hate to hear this but I wish Jacob nothing but the best going forward.

This makes the Charles Mosley accident even bigger. He would (probably) be in the mix....

If Mosley was anywhere on the OL it would be at G. He's nowhere even close to being an OT. Honestly with how Robertson has taken off... Mosley probably ends up as a Tackle. On the DL.

Wasn't Blair grossly out of shape when camp started, or am I wrong? Doesn't sound like he's ready for prime time--or even afternoon soap time.

You are wrong. He had conditioning issues in SPRING ball. However it was mentioned several times in the summer how much better shape he was in. JUCO ball is not D1 ball, so everyone expected the JUCO linemen to be sucking wind.

They haven't said specifically what the issue with Blair was but my guess is knowing the playbook, his assignments and overall motivation and intensity.

I honestly think well see him by OU if not soon after. This staff seems like they will not tolerate a lack of intensity.

This really stinks for Gilliam. To work that hard, earn the starting spot, then blow out your knee in the first game has to be crushing for the guy. Here is hoping his recovery goes well and he can get another year from the NCAA. As for the rest of this year, one of the youngsters is going to have to step up, nothing else for it.

This is truly bad news, Vol's starting left Tackle out for the season with torn ACL.
This will hurt, when it comes time for SEC games, Vol's have no depth on OL

The coaches and players specifically said conditioning, and that was in the spring . During summer camp, all the coaches said that he was vastly improved. I don't know where you got the rest of the stuff from.

Possible Brandon Downs could play at LT? He may not have all the weight but I'm sure the same amount of strength. Plus he would be plenty of fast enough.

No. He's already redshirted before. He'd have to petition the NCAA for a 6th year of eligibility to come back next year.

I didn't mean to like your post, just respond to it.

The answer should not be "no" to "can he redshirt." It would just be a different kind of redshirt, a medical one, which is not guaranteed, but I don't see why they would deny it, if Gilliam wants to persevere to attempt it. I wouldn't blame him for saying, I've done enough, I'm moving on, but then again, from what I've seen of him, he's tough and determined enough to come back one more time. :loco:

This kid is a VFL for what he has done...he has shown how to persevere and keep pounding the rock and earning not only a scholarship as a walkon but the right to wear the orange and white for life. My hat is off to him and my heart goes out to him and the entire Gilluam family.

I feel sick for the poor kid. All that effort and determination to have it most likely end this way.

Losing a starter at LT is going to be felt by the offense come SEC play. You can bet that.

Sucks bad for a guy who spent 5 years of his life fighting to get a start.
Same thing happened to Brandon Lopez. He would have been the starting point guard and received a scholarship this year. Tennessee still has no point guard except a freshman walk on.

I hated hearing this. I hope he gets another year. If anybody deserves a medical redshirt, this young man does.

I hope this isn't a harbinger of things to come. We just can't afford too many of these types of injuries. Such a key player for us. When is Blair going to come around?

The young man exemplifies what I think we want in our players. Hard workers who earn their way and give their all for TN. Hope he recovers nicely, and maybe with luck, gets another chance.
