You had me till here.

We know cancer is horrible and what comes from it.

Honestly, we have gone from global cooling to ice ages to global warming to climate change in the past 40 years.

We know what cancer is........

:dunno:

How do you know cancer is your own cells? You're taking your doctor's word for it. You take your doctor's word on all pathologies.

I can't defend the global cooling scares of the 30's and 70's, any more than saying it was a different time with different data. Also, there was a short term cooling trend at the times.

I have heard of that theory and that is interesting. Changing the earths angles on its axis would have an effect on the earths climate. The truth is, there are many factors that cause climate change. So we can control. Some we cant. We think that we have total control of our destiny and when some realize we dont, it scares the crap out of them. Me, I just go with the flow. Except when it comes to left-wing commie libs. By the way IP, what specifically was your degree in? Just wondering

There are definitely a ton of things that factor into climate. As far as the "control of our destiny' thing, it makes me wonder what your feelings are on religion.

My degree was in Geography, and I am finishing up another that concentrates in paleoclimatology and paleoecology.

Come on now, testing, geneology, etc.

So there can't be a short term heating trend in our time?

yeah, I'm pretty sure Forest Gump recieved a degree in the movie

What's your deal? You glorify being wasteful in one of your first posts, slam a knowledgeable poster in another post, and then show your ass when someone suggested he knew what he was talking about.

Forget what he said....... what about this?

Why can't I have my air on at 72 in the summer and 68 in the winter?

I was not trying to glorify being wasteful, I was simply making the point that nobody has the right to tell me what car to drive, what to set my ac at, and that I have to recycle. Secondly, I don't know IPorange from adam....I don't personally care what he has a degree in, scientists all over the world are torn on this issue. so what makes IPorange so knowledgeable anyway?? He is a tree hugging enviromentalist, he will always be on the other side of the fence on this issue. MAN MADE GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE IS BOGUS...PERIOD. have fun in norway, you probably fit in great over there.

IMO, there is plenty of evidence out there to demonstrate that man can contribute to warming. The problem is, of course, figuring out how much. The cost of action is rather immediate and directly impacts the country taking action. The cost of inaction has large error bars, is delayed, and may or may not affect the country taking action as largely as it would, perhaps, other nations. Sounds like a an issue that easily becomes political.

The necessity for action is largely where the political debate should lie. The concept of AGW to me is largely settled. Man, through CO2 emissions, contributes to the greenhouse gas effect and thus warming. How much is the scientific question of merit....and the climatologists seem to be gaining confidence in their estimates, but that is certainly open for scientific debate....and has been debated....and will continue to be, but I think that the ranges are possible (though I believe the probabilities assigned to these ranges are likely still wrong). What is open to even more debate is the question of what the effects of this warming will be.

Is that where you feel comfortable? Then that isn't wasteful. On the other hand, refusing to recycle plastic just because you want to stick it to the enviro-fools is like cranking your AC down to 45 and wearing a coat inside during the summer.

How do you know that he is a tree-hugging environmentalist? I can assure you that just because one accepts the science behind AGW theories, it does not imply that he/she is a 'tree-hugging' environmentalist.

If you want to suggest that AGW is bogus, then that's your prerogative. But, there is simply no way that you can say 'period' after a statement like that and be taken seriously. I will readily agree that some have likely blown the potential consequences of AGW out of proportion, but to say that there is 0% chance that man contributes to warming is equally ridiculous.

I don't know if he actually hugs trees, however it is clear that he deeply loves mother nature.

I was not trying to insinuate that man doesn't contribute to climate change( quit calling it global warming, even Al has backed off that title). We as humans definitely contribute, no doubt about that. I just don't think we contribute nearly as much as Al and the media have led us to believe. The only reason I even posted on the topic is because I can't stand Mr. Gore for scaring the world into believing something and then making a profit off of it with carbon credits, He is a turd for that.

Going green as a country will be very costly to our GDP, and I am 100% against it. Even if we are fully "green", there will always be countries like china who will never adapt, so what is the point really?
