Gruden would have been great to get our recruiting where it needs to be. Dooley did not recruit well at all as we can see. He did OK with Offense but not defense. The next coach not only needs to be able to coach but he needs to be a great recruiter or have a great recruiting staff. We're not Florida, Georgia, or LSU where they just sign on the dotted line and a great recruiter is not as needed. This may be where we get hit the hardest in losing Gruden. We would have had the top athletes ready to sign with Tennesse if he were here.
You guys are so delussional. We didn't lose Gruden. He didnt choose us.

We will probably hire Fedora, and he will make us a great coach! His offenses are epic. He would succeed quickly.

Having an opinion makes him a crybaby?

Wouldn't your opinion and response to him make you a jerk?

People have every right to voice their concerns and be worried about the future hire. Especially when p.o.s. coaches like Al Golden, Charlie Strong and Jimbo Fisher are being named as the front runners. You've got one guy bringing in top five recruiting classes in the ACC every year and Fisher still struggles. The Big East might not be a powerhouse but it's still a BCS conference and you've got that guy scraping by Sunbelt garbage. If I recall, Petrino took people's lunch money and proceeded to kick them in the nuts while at Louisville. While not the best school, it shouldn't be difficult for Strong to run over Sunbelt junk. And the last guy... I don't care what kind of trouble Miami is in. Golden has been a bad coach there since day one and not that it has any relevance to his coaching ability but the dude wears a damn dress shirt and tie on the sideline.

If you want to get excited over hearing those names, be my guest. It's stupid for you to call people crybabies for not blindly getting excited about the idea of hiring one of those guys though. People have legit reasons for why they don't want them. You might as well save your time reading what people have to say and responding if all you're going to add is attacking people for letting their opinions be known. I gave my reasons on why I think those coaches suck and why I would not look forward to the future of UT football with them at the helm. If I had responded the way you responded to the OP, I would have just left it at "you're a jerk". That would have been pretty constructive, huh?

Strong has qualities that you fail to mention, but you did manage to call him a p.o.s. How noble of you. SMFH

So is every post of yours going to be this defiant schtick about how all of the crazies here are being totally reasonable? LOL.

Your standards, evaluations, etc relating to this coaching search are all sorts of messed up. Do you think every big time program is always hiring a Saban or Gruden? Guys like Fisher and Strong have profiles that eclipse many - heck, most - of the hires big time programs typically make.

And yeah, if you think a guy like Strong is a "p.o.s. coach", you really don't even deserve to have an opinion.

I think we all know at this point we will end up getting another mediocre coach. But this time it will really hurt because this program is already in such a deep hole. My concern is all we are going to do is dig the hole a lot deeper with another cheap, and unqualified hire. I really hope I am wrong but get ready for disappointment...

Also I want to clean house from top to bottom. Get these Florida and Bama fans out of our program. We need UT people running our program. Im done and so is most of VN for this mediocre product we get every year, and I am sure with another terrible hire we will be even worse then we were. All I can do is hope and pray because I fear that we will once again set ourself back and dig the hole we are already in even deeper.

No big name coach is going to leave their cushy jobs at teams that are already in the top 15 to come here and try and fix this train wreck, especially if there is only a small pay increase. I don't understand why people can't understand this? Also, just because they went to Bama and UF, doesn't mean they don't care. They get paid a substantial amount of money to do their jobs and to think that they are not trying is simply wrong.

From the way Gruden's agent talked in the KNS article I read today, Hart didn't even make a real effort to get him. He was just calling to do his "due diligence." That really ticks me off. I would have thought that we'd have been going after Gruden first and foremost with everything we had, but apparently not. We're going to start over with another "up and comer" who did a great job at Podunk State; meanwhile, Alabama and Florida continue to win championships and go to BCS Bowls. Hell, Vanderbilt and maybe a few others will get there before us. This absolutely sucks.

Does it occur to you that Hart knew all along that grooden was not going to coach at UT. Would not be smart of him to waste resources on someone that does not want to coach at UT. Give me Strong all day long.

No source, just a gut feeling that all the Gruden talk was the smokescreen to a much bigger hire. Looking at currentcoaching salaries, a $4-5M offer to Brian Kelly would be a huge pay increase for him....long shot, yes...but is wirth the conversation seeing his current pay is < $3 mill at present.

He was in play last time before they went with Dooley.
