I am not excited by this hire, no, but I realistically know that I can't even begin to predict how this is all going to pan out. At this point he can just as easily blow the doors off and shock us all as he can just totally suck it up and only eek out 3 wins versus the ooc cupcakes.
However, I believe we will know exactly what we have after the Florida game next year. By then he will have:
1. Hired his staff. If he brings his entire staff from UC this will be his first strike to me.
2. Recruited: While I'm not demanding a top ten class this year, I do hope he at least bumps us up to top 20.
3. Played two top teams: When the whistle blows at the end of the game on Florida that is where we will really have a bigger picture of what we actually have.
Win, lose, or draw, it really doesn't matter as yet again we took a gamble and bet the farm on it. The guy is getting nearly 20 million bucks in 6 installments, and he is far from a sure thing so none of this really matters as he will be here no less than 4 years I can guarantee you that. I really hope the defenders don't try to make this guy out to be some benevolent guy who has sacrificed in hopes to get UT back and running like they did Dooley. On the other hand, if he does win and is showing marked improvement, I would hope the die hard opponents to this hire don't sabotage his success and still aren't satisfied. He has been paid, and paid handsomely to do a job we don't know that he can or can't do, and we will have a much clearer picture of his ability to do so after week 4 next year.
