Go on Record Here about Butch Jones

I'm sure this thread will be bumped many times in the future. That's the point. As of Today, December 8th, 2012, one day after the hiring of Butch Jones.. I want your opinion. How do you think we will be with Butch Jones a year from now? two years? three? four.... so on so on?

Personally, I can see Butch Jones struggling in his first year. By year two we will still struggle. Year three will be when he is evaluated. And at the end of year three he will be fired.

What's your opinion?
He will take us to a bowl in year two and a better bowl in year 3. He will beat at least one of the big 3 in year 2 and have a chance to do same in year 3. He will beat Vandy and ky regularly again. He will be a success much to your dismay. By the way, Fulmer is not coming back.

your avi say hope but your attitude says looser

we will win ..

Why Bret Beliema, off 3 Rose Bowl wins, would choose to coach for 3rd in the SEC West every year is beyond me, but in my opinion, the SEC East is ripe for a new bully. Spurrier can't do it ... Richt is solid, but can't seem to take the thrown ... Muschamp? please.

I think Tennessee can rise again in the East. If we can do that, recruiting picks up, and quite possibly we do start winning games we've grown too accustomed to losing. If you win the SEC East in 2014 when they start playing a 4-team playoff, you are in the National Championship conversation by default. That's what we all want, right? We can get there without the need for an undefeated season.

Why meet this new era with pessimism?

Ark= 4th or 5th in west. No doubt bama, lsu, and auburn are ahead of them

More concerned about staff and recruiting than I am x's and o's. I hope Butch hasn't fallen prey to the idea that all you have to do is get them on campus. It takes more than that in the SEC.

Let's see if open door to lettermen really means "open door".

Guys don't give this troll the satisfaction of arguing about his bs posts.. It's all for attention.. No way anybody can be that stupid for real.

bad hire; fired after 4 yrs; 5 wins next year, 6 in 2014, 7 in 2015, 6 in 2016; we will all be back here then wondering who will be next (I wonder if that delusional group that will still be asking for Gruden?); Yeah, Jones has won a bunch of conf titles in some Michigan directional league....that's great...but this is the SEC. Like Dooley, in way over his head. Pass the Vodka.

My name is Butch, our coach is named Butch. I am a winner so there ya go.

A few things:

1. I like what I've read/learned about Butch
2. I appreciate the way he's handled himself thus far
3. He's walking in the door with a winning record
4. He seems to have truly wanted the job
5. The search is over

Now let's get this show on the road, Butch. Time to return to greatness.

GBO

Wins are all that matter. If he wins, and wins in a way he can sustain, I'm on board with him. So, until that time comes, talk is cheap, and we have all had our fill of it for the past 5 years, and I'm not going to blindly be led this time, just because we got change.

The man is a winner and knows how to win - something so unknown over the last few years that many TN fans have almost forgotten how that feels. Whether he will be able to climb to the top of the SEC - and thus National contention, much less do it in the record time expected by our fan base - is an open question.

I have no doubt, however, that within 2-3 years we will at least be contending in the SEC again and no longer be thought of, by even our enemies, with unveiled pity for a once great program, fallen into dust - as we are now. Once again, our rivals will learn to fear us and loathe the very mention of our name. And, if Jones is unable to take us to the high mountain of a BCS bowl, I feel certain at least that the VOLS will be highly sought after to fight in an honorable venue in December.

I like the hire. Young. Hungry. Not afraid of a challenge. You think Gruden still has the eye of the tiger? Newsflash, when you have enough money to own a tiger, you no longer have they eye of the tiger.

If he don't get a good dc he's gonna crash and burn! And I bet he brings his guy from cincy! And has already failed in the sec!

7-5 or 8-4 next year, so a range of 7-6 to 9-4 with a bowl game.

The funny thing is, anti-Butch folk have no basis for him flopping. He has won everywhere. If you say CBK set it up everywhere he went, I say that's just wrong. CBJ built Central Michigan. CBJ rebuilt Cincy after a senior-laden team left in CBK's last year there.

50-27. Four conference titles. Looks like the only thing we don't know he can do is recruit, but he's already getting started on that. So you're banking on him not being able to recruit any good players at all. K.

My opinion is that the OP's opinion has no reasonable basis and is in fact an opinion based on emotion. Thread should've never been created, IMO.

I like the glass half-full attitude you've got. It's not like things can get any worse.

For the record, I agree. I think the talent at Tennessee hasn't dropped off as much as the record indicates. I like our chances next year.

We paid too much for a coach that is second tier. His contract runs thru 2019 -7 years- thats 7 years. If he cant get the job done ( a def. possibility) it will be the end of Vol football. It will be over. Hart is gambling the whole future on this guy and he didnt need to do it. Isnt Hart he one who help bring Coach Sal? Not exactly his finest day as AD. Another thing, apathy. It has been about 30 hours since I was told of Harts big gamble ( with UTs money, not his ) and I haved worked a 8 hr shilft friday and sat from 8-2 in a retail setting. NOT ONE PERSON EVEN MENTIONED THE NEW HIRE. This guy at least has a good track record ( unlike that fool Dooley) but I honestly put the odds at pick 'em whether this is gonna succeed. By the way, who hired Hart in the first place?

You've gone full retard

I'll go on record as saying I was mad as hell when I heard this deal was going down. I think it will take him a few years, but he will have us back in the hunt Petermans redshirt junior year. If he does that its a win.

Financially and talent-wise things can get epically worse.

So let me ask you, Sumlin beat Saban this year. Does that make him a better coach than Saban? Absolutely not.

No, but Sumlin is a damn good coach. On a scale of 1-10, they're probably within 2 of each other. So if Dooley's that close to Jones, well...you can probably figure it out.

like what ive seen so far. a lot of potential. now go prove it to me on the recruiting trail and on the field.

GBO

He's not the epic disaster that Dooley was, but he's shown to be an, essentially, above average coach at his destinations. So, I would expect about an average coach and record now that's he's in the real big time of the SEC. He wins 6 to 9 games each year he's here and lasts for about 5 years because of his absurdly long contract and buyout and the propensity to make excuses for coaches who aren't performing until it becomes too obvious they aren't qualified.

Everyone is bashing the guy who started the thread, but it seems like no one is actually willing to put their neck out and predict 10-2 or 11-1 seasons, or SEC Championship appearances, under Jones. If we don't even expect him to GET to the SEC title game, then it was a bad hire.

1st post of yours that I have ever agreed with.

I'll tell you this

CBJ will win a NC at Tennessee. Remember that!!!

No need to flame just wait and watch. I'm not going anywhere.

If I'm wrong I will be the first to eat crow and I expect you to call me on it.
