I would tell you what you need to do, but it's both anatomically impossible and the verbal description would run afoul of board language standards. You're one of the guys who talked about how good the Jerry Green years were. Also, did I miss something? Wasn't there a UT-Memphis played in January? Cal didn't want to play UT with Buzz Peterson as coach because UT was irrelevant. There was no benefit in playing the second rate outfit that Buzz put on the floor.
As to you trying to tell me who I will or won't root for, why don't you concern yourself with swim meets, softball games, and track meets, the things you might actually know something about. Don't remember ever mentioning Memphis football, but I shouldn't expect logic or coherence considering you're the source.

Wrong again. The best thing you can do is get your facts straight before running off at the mouth!

Cal didn't want to play UT especially at home to keep UT out of Memphis. you need to learn a few things before popping off. UT and Tiger high played only because Tiger high's President forced Cal to schedule UT, did you forget that or did you not read the papers?

I'll worry about any UT sport I want including basketball and football and when you learn something about both come back and talk to me until then get your facts straight.

Yeah, Cal really feared the recruiting prowess of Buzz Peterson. Cal chose to quit playing UT and Arkansas because there was no benefit to his program. Why play, at that time, two programs in serious decline when you can schedule someone that will get you on national television? He replaced UT on the schedule with Illinois, a program that ensured him an extra national TV appearance. Now that UT has righted the ship, I'm sure Cal will have no problem obliging UT's request for a game. One thing to remember, UT needs Memphis on their schedule a hell of a lot worse than Memphis needs UT on theirs.

Shirley Raines doesn't force John Calipari to do anything. Cal makes one phone call over to David Bronczek at FedEx and she's teaching Childhood Education at a satellite junior college.

did you miss the whole thing about Memphis refusing to play us in Bball so we refused to play them in fball? Thats why we had to play UL-L two years ago instead of Memphis
Does that mean UT was afraid of Memphis in football? That seems to be the logic you're operating under. If you don't play someone, you must be afraid of them.

That's hilarious. You telling me to "learn something." You should look at your posts from January 31, 2005. You went to great lengths to guarantee that Buzz Peterson would be UT's coach for the '05-'06 season. How'd that work out for you? Must have had some real "inside information" on that one. Your defense of Buzz Peterson says all anyone needs to know about your basketball knowledge. Peterson is, was, and will always be nothing more than Michael Jordan's flunkie. If UT listened to the likes of you, instead of an NCAA Tournament bid, we could have had another entralling 13-15 year. Why, oh why couldn't Hamilton have listened to the brilliant 67? Jimmy Swaggart, I mean Buzz Peterson, had the program going so well.

1 more time and simple so your mind can understand it

1. Cal refused to play UT because he didn't want UT playing in Memphis because of recruiting (same reason he continually DUCKS Arkansas)
2. UT's AD told Memphis no basketball then no football period and that hurt Memphis athletics so Tiger High's President told Cal to schedule UT home and home period (read the newspapers.
3. This had nothing to do with Buzz and everything to do with Cal
4. UT doesn't need Memphis on thier schedule but they do want them there, remember this its all about MONEY and Memphis needs UT football on THEIR schedule PERIOD those are FACTS! twist them all you want from your Tiger high perspective!

Do I need to pull the articles to prove it!

Last but not least I have never at anytime backed or thought Jerry Green was good for UT and I have not at anytime liked Jerry Green so I don't know who your thinking of but its not me

Memphis and Arkansas do refuse to play against each other. I dont know if one side is really against it or if it's mutual. 67 says Memphis is really against it.

1 more thing hat just so you get it straight Cal didn't want to stop playing UT, he instead wanted to play them every year in Nashville. This way he could try and even the series against UT while keeping them out of Memphis.

Moved to Other Sports since neither UCLA or Calipari is about the Vols.

:hi:

Everyone also needs to remember that personal shots are against board rules and not allowed. Feel free to PM me if you have questions.

I'll do this point by point, in the hopes that you can grasp what are are fairly simple concepts. Initially, I would like to issue an apology. I did go back and study your past posts and found your impassioned support was of Buzz Peterson, not Jerry Green. I confused your heartfelt defense of an incompetent hillbilly with others' defense of an obsequious gomer. I hope the confusion didn't cause you any pain. Now, on to your numbered points.

1. If you bothered to do some rudimentary homework, you would see Cal doesn't have to recruit Memphis to win. Shawne Williams is the only contributor who hails from the Bluff City. One of the first things Cal did upon his arrival was to get the word out that he wasn't going to grovel to the corrupt AAU/High School structure for players. That's one of your points refuted.
2.If you believe Shirley Raines tells John Calipari what to do, I've got some terrific real estate opportunities to discuss with you. The boys over at FedEX call the shots at UM. Ms. Raines knows if she angers Cal, she'll be teaching at UT-Martin by sundown. If she attempted to meddle, Cal would simply take one of the myriad of big time offers he gets every offseason and blame her for his leaving on the way out the door. Shirley knows her place in the hierarchy.
3. Nothing ever had anything to do with Coach Swaggart, er Peterson. It's an amazing admission on your part to say a guy you went to the mat for had so little stroke as a coach that he had nothing to do with whether or nor an instate team played UT. That shows how pathetic Peterson, and your support of him, were. Guys like you should be really proud of yourselves for trying to keep him around another year. Hilarious.
4. Money? Can't Coach Pearl simply replace Memphis, as Cal did with UT, with a national draw. You think TBA wouldn't be filled for a game with Michigan State, Arizona, or North Carolina? That argument has 0 valdity. UT wants a home and home with Memphis for recruiting purposes, and people like you foam at the mouth because Cal doesn't bow down to UT's requests. It's Pearl's job to recruit for UT, not Cal's.

Good post HatVol. If I were the judge, I'd rule guilty or not guilty whichever stance you were defending.
Now, back to the New York trip thing, my son and 2 buddies and wife are headed to New York staying in the Queens/Manhattan area. Where is a good safe place for a group of 18 year olds on a senior class trip to hang out at night time?

The vast majority of Manhattan is as safe as any major city. Obviously, the Times Square area is lively and presents many entertainment opportunities. Greenwich Village would appeal to an 18 year old. As long as they are traveling together, the Village is safe. Forest Hills is a nice, unique area of Queens. It really depends on what your son and his friends find interesting. They can find any kind of music or entertainment they like. Also, depending on exactly when they're there, the Knicks, Rangers, Yankees or Mets might be at home. One suggestion, it would probably be beneficial for them to plan ahead a little bit. If they get a general idea of what ares they want to visit, they can go to mta.info and map out the Subway routes and directions prior to arriving. That will give them more time to actually see the sites they're interested in visiting.

Indiana is basically begging Cal to take their job now. Interesting how a guy some of you think can't coach continually gets prestigeous offers. When was the last time Fulmer got one? Oh, that's right. Never.

Is Alford in the mix at all at Indiana?

I haven't seen a single source that thinks he is a candidate. If they get rejected by a number of people, maybe he comes into play.
