By notabed's idiotic "flagship schools in border states" logic, Louisville/Kentucky isn't REALLY a rivalry. Neither is the Iron Bowl, because you can't forget about the UAB fans.

No schools in Kentucky and Alabama have nearly the fan base size or polar divide of Auburn/Alabama and Kentucky/Louisville.

nowhere close to what I was talking about. I don't care about how people become fans of schools or teams and I don't understand why you think it's such an issue. I also believe people. I don't make grand assumptions based on complete garbage that I can make up in my head. I didn't choose to be a Duke fan, or an A's fan or a Redskins fan because someone told me to be one. I just chose. I got lucky with Duke, they've been good for a long time. I definitely didn't get nearly as lucky with the Redskins or A's.

Redskins were good in early 90s as were duke and Oakland.

Just sayin...

I guess credit for remaining loyal though. And to be fair there were no pro teams in TN.

If Dook lost four first rounders would you expect them to do much? Enjoy, because in about 2 hours from you guys will be heading back to Durham thinking about how they are gonna replace those seniors.

my first baseball team was the Gray Auto Parts Athletics and we wore green and gold. I started watching Oakland because of that and I thought Dennis Eckersley was the coolest man on the planet and Rickey Henderson is the most exciting baseball player I've ever watched. I was hooked.

The Redskins were just the choice because my aunt was a Cowboys fan and I wanted to cheer against her.

Again, I never expected Duke to wind up so good, I had no idea of their past either. I just knew I really liked Bobby Hurley and their style of play. I still do. Yep, I'm just a bandwagonner.

Little Plumlee will finally be healthy, all signs seem to say that Andre Dawkins will be back, and it doesn't appear that Cook, Thornton or Sulaimon are going anywhere. More minutes for Alex Murphy, Josh Hairston and the additions of Jones, Ojeleye and what appears to be Jabari Parker, I think Duke has filled those holes.

I wasn't really turning this into a breaking down both teams. Just making the point that they lost a bunch of production. Kentucky didn't even make the tournament after losing what they lost.
I don't think little Plum will be much help... JMO. I like Parker, but I think your team will be stuck like UNC this year with Center.

Edit: My opinion of Ryan Kelly still hasn't changed. I'm sure he will go out and get 30 again now.lol

I took vacation to NYC so I like the Yankees. Grew up in so cal so in love the lakers.

Pull for sec football and am a penguins fan.

For NFL it's gotta be the packers!!!

The sarcasm is noted, but the sponsor of the team had no say in the nickname. They were handed out by the LL organization. We won our division those first two years. That being said, I wasn't a fan of college basketball yet. I was too busy drooling over MJ and wishing the Hornets were better because they were new and actually close to home.

Yes, Duke is good. I know this. Yes, UNC is good. I know this as well. However, two good teams does not a great rivalry make. There's no debating that UNC and Duke are rivals, but the "fans" make damn certain that it isn't the best rivalry in college sports.

Unless you're talking Hatfields vs. McCoys, it's the teams that make rivalries great. The fans just get to go along for the ride.

You're completely allowed and, in fact, encouraged to join the Louisville bandwagon. You're not even expected to have spent any time on the Belknap campus (due to safety concerns) or at Freedom/YUM.

I could never cheer for Rick Pitino. As a Duke bandwaggoner, I'm not allowed to.

*honestly, I've always laughed at the UK hate towards Duke. I don't have a care about Kentucky one way or the other. I don't hate 'em, don't like 'em either. Same with Rick Pitino. Hope he breaks out the white suit if Louisville goes all the way to the title game though.
