There was one fact in that post.

I "lose"? Lol! You're obviously not a Duke grad!

yeah, you lose. I backed up those facts you claimed were generalizations or elitist statements. You've yet to make one solid statement against them that can actually be disputed with numbers or other facts.

Way above average.

so Stanford and Vandy have high GSRs (so does UNC for that matter) and you acknowledge they are "way above average." Duke has a perfect GSR, but all you can say is, meh every school graduates players. Definitely bamacheats logic there.

yes, you're right. Tennessee barely graduates half of its basketball players, while Duke graduates all of them. Clearly the two are equal at this aspect of being NCAA institutions because, well, both schools graduate players. Fascinating. Your mind must be a wonderful place to get to visit. A short quick visit is all it would take, but it sure would be a fun trip.

again, Duke graduated 100% of it's players. For comparison, Tennessee basketball had a GSR of a mere 55%. Duke's main rival, the team from 8 miles down the road has a GSR of 91%. Kentucky basketball had a 69% rate in 2011, I can't find the #s for 2012. The national average? 74%. So no, it's not just an NCAA thing, it's a Duke basketball thing. Every player graduated.

They certainly have a better than avg graduation rate but not every player always graduates.

Usually the person who resorts to personal attacks first has acknowledged internally that they have been outsmarted. In this case you have gotten personal twice.

Happy Easter!

I brought up winning records, loyalty to the program, few arrests and the GSR. Yeah, I cherry picked. Nice try though. And bamacheats routinely makes himself look stupid. That's not fault.

But in reality, I'm just jealous that I can't hit 300+ yard "safe" drive with my golf game.

Duke is a strange case. Granted, Tennessee/Alabama/LSU/Kentucky/Texas/Louisville/any name-brand school boasts a fan base comprised mostly of non-alumni... but Duke isn't even a flagship school in its state or anything. Duke is a great academic school, featuring a great basketball program, adored by countless individuals with absolutely no connection whatsoever to the school.

Duke "fans," bonded by nothing but a "passion" for a college basketball program that has won frequently in recent years, span the globe. The Duke/UNC rivalry is an absolute joke because the vast majority of the schools' fanbases have absolutely no connection whatsoever with the state, let alone the institution. When you factor in the other relatively competitive programs within North Carolina (NC State, Wake Forest, Davidson, etc), it's obvious to any sensible person that the "best rivalry in college basketball" doesn't mean anything at all.

All of the random fans who "LOVE DOOK BASKETBALL!!!" are why it's such an abhorrent school and program.

i dislike duke.....because imo....

1. they have their rear end kissed constantly. people will say it's because they win and when you win, you get the media's love. but, lots of programs win. n. carolina wins. connecticut wins. syracuse wins. etc, etc, etc. you don't see espn broadcasting syracuse vs. cornell. they'll do that with duke

2. coach k's image. the real coach k is bob knight II. the media doesn't show you that coach k. but, coach k has a mouth that can make john mcenroe blush. i don't necessarily care that he's that way, but i get upset that people hide that like it's not the truth

3. christian laettner. anyone who saw him stomp on the kentucky player in the tourney needs no further explanation. and in general, while people bring up race and duke having white guys, there is a "douche factor" with the white guys who have played at duke that i can't describe, but you know it when you see it. guys like laettner, cherokee parks, chris collins, wojo, plumlee, etc, etc, etc. every school has its share of white guys. florida has too. and matt walsh is an example of a "duke white guy". he would have fit right in.

4. they won't play anyone home and home. it's extremely rare. they'll do it with st. john's because coach k likes to play at madison square garden, but that's about it. you want to play duke in a non conference game, you have to go to duke or play them at one of those pre conference tournaments. they somehow seem to play their acc-big 10 challenge games at home every year too. just very rare to see duke play on someone else's campus who's not in the acc.

any real college basketball fan knows that K has a mouth. Raftery and Packer used to talk about "don't read those lips" all the time.

Please explain how fans not having alumni relationships with the schools discredits the UNC-Duke rivalry? Since any sensible knows this.

Duke does play a lot of home games, but just like every one else in the ACC-Big 10 challenge they rotate home and away.

The intensity of a rivalry is greatly diminished when an extremely sizable contingent of your fan base is located 100+ miles away from the Triangle and, in many cases, never once set foot inside Cameron or the Dean Dome.

Duke, and its plethora of out of state "fans," is a sham.

That in no way, shape or form takes away the rivalry between the two schools and the athletes that play in the games of said rivalries. Especially when both gyms are packed to the rafters every time they play each other. You haven't even began to diminish the rivalry at all with this weak answer.

Yea... the arenas are filled with alums when the rival is in town. Big whoop.

People in North Carolina aren't faced with a heads or tails choice as to which team they're going to root for as is the case in other rivalries. It's not a state divided two ways at all; it's a state with tons of acceptable allegiances. That diminishes the rivalry's intensity.

Most importantly, though, Duke fans didn't grow up hating UNC. You weren't engrained from birth to rally against all things UNC by any means. You, solely because the Duke basketball team is good, decided one day to become a fan of them. Color me impressed; that's some real dedication to your "team!"

When your fan base is a bunch of bandwagon babies, your rivalry isn't as good as it's billed to be.

Still not answering anything. Just making general assumptions. Yay. I can do that too

Bill, I have a few questions.

1) At what age did you become a Duke fan? Was it, in fact, during their period of sustained success?

2) Have you ever been to a game at Cameron? Have you ever even seen Duke play in person?

3) Hell, have you ever been to Duke's campus?

I'm surprised that I don't see a Yankees logo under your avatar. You are the typical Duke fan, which is why Duke is such a joke.

I mean clearly because fans of these schools come from all over, and since NC State, Wake and ECU take away some of the state's fanbase, Duke and Carolina have no real rivalry. Nevermind that the games the two play against each other often have not only best in the ACC bragging rights, but best in all the land bragging rights, or at least the rights to a #1 seed in the tourney bragging rights. None of that stuff matters.

1. I became a Duke fan at age of 9 because I liked Bobby Hurley. I've described my reasons for liking Duke probably 100 times on this board, including in a thread just two or three days ago.

2. I've been to multiple games at Cameron and also seen them @ Clemson, at UVa and in two NCAA tournament games.

3. I've already answered this question.

I'm the typical Duke fan huh? Typical Duke fans like the A's, Redskins and Tennessee football? Or is it that typical Duke fans defend their team? I mean no fan does that. Or is it somehow related to my career field? My religious preference? The size of my shoe?

Do you mind answering my questions, or are you too busy Googling the Heat's starting lineup?

Yes, Duke is good. I know this. Yes, UNC is good. I know this as well. However, two good teams does not a great rivalry make. There's no debating that UNC and Duke are rivals, but the "fans" make damn certain that it isn't the best rivalry in college sports.
