Golden's dad disputes academic problems

I really hope it was something besides academics or possibly cheating bc Hyams seems so positive that's what it was. I love it when he acts appalled and lied too when his information is wrong.

Trae Golden has a judicial hold on his UT account - It is plagiarism

People who are blaming Martin are way off.

Martin and company tried to work with the academic side on this but Trae was a repeat offender. He had to repeat a class his freshman year because of similar allegations.

At least two classes from this semester and possibly a third will be cancelled meaning he won't be receiving a grade.

Martin cannot comment publicly on specifics because of student privacy issues.

Trae's dad is simply playing the PR game with a new school or Trae hasn't told him the truth.

If Trae knew he had been caught cheating during this past semester why wouldn't he have just declared for the draft and if not drafted just go play ball overseas like he is going to probably do once his eligibility is gone.

Think you missed the point of the guy's question.

No I don't think so. He asked why wouldn't he declare for the draft or play overseas. I said he isn't good enough to get drafted. His only other option is to stay in school as long as possible then transfer at the end of the semester to a lower program. Or until he would be told he wasn't eligible to re-enroll in the fall.

Trae was more than likely waiting to see if the university was going to give him another chance before he announced his transfer. Once he realized he'd be unable to enroll again I'm sure he decided to announce his transfer to get his name out there to interested schools.

Probably because he hoped it would get covered like his freshman year troubles got covered.

Yeah, you kind of did miss his point. His point was "Why not just go make money if you're not gonna be here anyway and lose your eligibility."

Why do that? I'm sure he was aware that there was a 99.9% chance he was not going to get drafted and the leagues overseas aren't going anywhere. Why not wait and see how the situation plays out before jumping the gun and throwing it all away?

Correct. And since he knows he's not going to be drafted he would gain nothing by declaring.

Some might say, "Yes but what would he have do lose? He at least gives himself a shot at being drafted." To that, I would say that Trae, along with many other players of his caliber, still feels like he has a shot to make it after one more season to up his stock. I'm sure if you asked him where he hoped he'd be in fall of 2014, he'd answer "in the league."

So like you say, he'd be better off riding it out and hoping to keep his eligibility which allows him one more season to up his stock for wherever he may wind up.

No I didn't. He can declare for the draft or try to play overseas. Unfortunately, he is NOT good enough to enter the draft or make decent money overseas. So that is why he isn't going to go "make money" anywhere else.

Magical thinking

It's the same sort of thinking that lets you convince yourself that you can frog around (as my uncle used to phrase it in mixed company) and somehow pull off a passing grade at the end of the semester without doing something desperate.
