Golesh may be in conversation at Cincinnati

I want Dobbs' intelligence and experience and leadership. I'm also betting he knows more than enough about QB mechanics to coach at the D1 level.
he can’t teach intelligence, and leadership. Honestly he would likely be frustrated and not a great fit trying to teach kids to be QBs at this level.

I am proud of him as a VFL and brand ambassador. I would really like to see him involved in the space center and be a spokesperson for the value of higher level math and science for kids. But as a QB coach? I just don’t see it.

You're probably right and I think he should hang out in the league, if he gets a chance. Honestly, for some reason I thought he was a little older when I originally posted that idea.

New report is that Brian Hartline is interviewing for the Cincy HC job.

Hartline just said he is not leaving his alma mater.... they are extremely lucky as he is the best recruiter and coach of WR's in CFB. UC is one of 3 schools Deion Sanders is considering.

UT can outbid Cincy if they choose to do so.

I would... but not my money.

We cannot outbid Cincy to keep Golesh as OC. That's silly. Cincy was paying Fickell 7.8 million per year. They will likely be giving their next coach upwards of 5 million per year. We aren't gonna pay any coordinators anywhere near 5 million per year.

They paid Fickell that. Do you think they'd pay an unproven new coach that?

No. UT won't go $5 million but $2 million. Maybe even $3 million. There is real money in college coaching now and with the portal programs have a LOT more incentive to pay assistants and coordinators.

Cincy is moving to the BIG12. They will easily pay their next coach upwards of 5 million. TN will not match anywhere close to that.

I believe Heupel calls the plays but Golesh helps identify potential mismatches and such. Maybe Golesh suggests some and Heupel may change it, not totally sure. I have read a lot on this board that Heupel is the playcaller. I think he also does a bunch of stuff during the week. I would guess they are sort of a team in game planning and developing ideas.

Also Heupel has a ton of details to see to so Golesh maybe does stuff in the classroom and in practices to teach the ideas? Really I’m just speculating. A lot folks say Heupel does the offense, and I have no doubt he is the primary, but I doubt that losing Golesh is like nothing changes.

I think other guys can do the job and Heupel could do it all himself if he needed to, but a set of eyes and ears who understand your system, can teach it, and that you trust takes is still valuable. I’m happy for him if he decides to take the opportunity and believe our offense will be fine.

I would just expect Halzle to get promoted, hire a new TE coach, and keep on rolling.

Exactly. You don’t pay an offensive coordinator head coach money. Especially when this is Heupel’s offense. If this were some all-world DC like Venables, I could see it because Heupel runs the offense. But not for an OC whose value has come largely from coaching under Heupel.

If Deion to UC then Golesh to Jackson State?
