Gone but not forgotten: Knoxville area restaurants and retailers we miss.

Now every once in a while, wouldn't you like to go back to 1978 just for a little while....

Which leads to the question, “If you could go back to Dec 4, 1978 but only for 24 hours, what would you do?”

My parents were going through a difficult divorce. I had just turned 22 and was in grad school. I’d sit them down individually and tell them “let it go, and move on. Everything will turn out ok.”

Love that idea, If only that was possible.

Well I would spend time with my old friends of course, and several now are sadly no longer with us.

Does anybody remember the band Jackaranda that used to play at Alice's restaurant on the strip in the late 70's? I even remember their big hit "Suite for 3 Kings"
It seems like they played in Circle Park one afternoon in 78 or so. Maybe Orson Bean spoke that day too. Or not, it's been a while.

The original Sam and Andy's, Smoky Mountain Market (gone?). The SMM we renamed the Killing Place. One dead, two severely injured 😢.

Anyone know if all the Marco’s pizza places have closed in Knoxville?
I'm pretty sure the Halls location is still open.

*Halls is open and it looks like the Ebenezer Rd and the Pigeon Forge locations are still open too. The other Marcos are showing "temporarily closed" on Google maps.

I need some help because this is driving me crazy. There was a soup/sandwich type of restaurant in Turkey Creek about 10-15 years ago. When I worked in that area everyone loved it, but I hated it.

All I remember about it was you got these really hard, skinny little crunchy breadstick things. They were free, but they also sucked.

Any ideas what that place was called? It was in the plazas on the west side, closer to Campbell Station.
