Gone but not forgotten: Knoxville area restaurants and retailers we miss.

Never got to try the one on the strip but I eat wings at spicys every saturday. They are on Emory now. I havent found a better wing. And if you go try the fried pickles.

When it was next door to the Electric Wizard on the strip it was 10x better than Emory location.

Anyone mention the Tunnel club?
Who recalls The Earth Shoe, had a store on the strip

In the 70s, there was a BBQ joint ~west of the campus area that stayed open very late, after all the bars had closed. It had picnic tables outside and served "sandwiches" consisting of bone-in chicken or ribs between two pieces of white bread. Anyone recall this place? Remember the name of it?

I remember the Earth Shoe store it was in the corner of a parking lot close to the Huge store that sold leather jackets.

Glico's (??) Also, good memories of Swensons and Smokey mountain Market. Kay's ice cream and Miller department store...

And of course that teenage play ground know as the
Drive In Theater.

Twin Aire
Riverbreeze
Knoxville Drive In
Dixie Lee. which became the XXX spot.

True story, a friend finally talked his girlfriend into attending an X rated movie at Dixie Lee.
He told me a soon the first scene stated it jumped right into the "actress" consuming a large wienerschnitzel.
His date freaked and popped one of her contacts out, yelling get me out of here, get me out of here.

She finally forgave him and a couple of years later they were married. I was best man and I had this massive smile on my face the whole wedding recalling that story.

I suppose she came to enjoy de wieners and kraut.

It wasn't a chain. It was an independent joint. I simply cannot remember it's name... Maybe because I only wnet there in the wee hours

The first Buddy's opened in 1972 on Kingston Pike, I was able to find this old picture. I think I rember the benches even though they are not in this photo.

I remember we would go to Buddy's at around 4:00pm on Friday night. Grab a table, order some drinks and grub and hang around playing cards until the musical entrainment began. Bluegrass music.

Saw many local acts , Knoxville Grass etc. over the years.

I almost forgot about Smokey Mountain Market. I used to go there for a Rooster Burger on the weekends. I think the Haslems bought them out and turned them into Pilots.

I found an old West Town map from 1972 and put on there where I thought Orange Julius and the Orange Bowl were located.

If you were a fan of Orange Julius they were bought and are now owned by Dairy Queen and you can get their drinks at Dairy Queen. One just opened in Farragut.

Lol! I've never been to a drive-in theater before but I heard the only one still open in this area is the Parkway Drive-In in Maryville.

I saw this mentioned before in this thread and really loved that place.

Just For Feet
Celebration Station AKA Zuma's
Regal Funscape Arcade(was just outside Regal West Town Mall)
