They closed the show talking about he was never promoted to be a top coordinator for Saban. He was always tight end or special teams coach. He was Saban's longest tenured assistant an never made it past the assistant level even when there were openings. The reason UT hired DD was he was a Saban disciple. But if he was any good he would have gotten farther. It was just an eye opener. Maybe he isn't that good. He never even coordinated an offense or defense, so he got hired by UT way before he was ready. he was just getting his feet wet at Latech.

Had never really thought of it that way, but that is an interesting point. Not really much more you can say when the guy you are trying to emulate as a coach won't even promote you on his own staff when they are openings.

Agree. Screw Saban. We need to stop this monkey see monkey do crap. We need to do our own thing, run our own system and stop trying to be the second coming of Saban. This is why I support a coaching change, do not want Kirby Smart and would LOVE to have Gruden (fantasy or not).

Those are points I've been hammering on about since he was hired.

And I said the same thing about Sunseri.

We hired a guy who was never a Coordinator to be our Head Coach and a guy who has been a DC most recently at Alabama A&M in 1997 to be our DC.

Those are mind-blowing to me.

What makes all of you have such faith in Gruden?

I thought the same thing when I looked into his record before he was hired 3 years ago. What's interesting about this is that they said something negative about Dooley on the Sports Animal. The end is coming soon.

It just shows that on your profession you weren't progressing as his peers who are coaching at our rivals. Muschamp was given the Keys to Texas before he went o uf. That's too top programs that approved him to be the man. Rhict ran FSU offense for Bowden for a decade before he was a coach. Mullen was Meyer's right hand man, and designed the most potent offense in the sec in the last decade. Even Kiffen had more experience that DD and is running a top program to what will be back to back ten win seasons. DD is more like Auburns coach without Cam Newton. Look how that's working out. DD was not really HC material until maybe this year. He should have been at Latech til now and then gotten a job at some other school like Illinois, Southern Miss, or North Carolina before he was expected to take the SEC jump. Because it's obvious that all the Sec coaches have a pedigree at Head coaching or being a top coordinator, not a lowly assistant who can't move up the ranks.

Saban is not GOD! Why do we always care what Saban does or does not do or did or didn't do?

What you past bosses think of your professional ability does matter. You aren't going to hire someone who previous boss would make him more that an entry level guy. Yes Saban isn't God but he is well respected coach in this country.

DD doesn't even have connections to make good hires. All his coordinators and assistants are a joke. Yeah we score points but we make a ton of mistakes. If we were better coached we would score 50 points every game except 31. think about it.

Exactly. Your resume matters. I just wanted to point this out so everyone would put in perspective what has been going on. He's underqualified. Not his fault. He's like the replacement refs in the nfl. We should thank him and pay him, and move on.

Read the Gruden thread?

I've dumped a good amount of information in there. Too damned lengthy to respout it here.

However... I doubt Gruden comes here.

Its only 169 pages.
I'll check reeeeal quick.

I honestly feel like Dooley was hired for other reason that his coaching ability.

Hammy hired him b/c he was a high character coach to help out during the NCAA investigations. Being a former AD would allow Hammy to focus on attempting to clean up the messes he made in the other sports programs.

Having the Dooley name and being a part of the Saban tree were just justification for hiring an unproven coach.

none of that matters. when Dooley was hired, HE WAS THE BEST WE COULD GET... no one else would come.. Will Muschamp said no to 3.5 million..

its fine to hit on his short comings but the bottom line is, what choice was there?? go without a coach..
