I watched the press conference today twice as I was feeding our baby lol! And I truly see the emotion in Butch Jones that has been sorely missing from this program for years. Yes it sucks to have lost to Florida - especially with their offensive issues (which seem to have taken a step forward with their new QB). But we have to move forward - the players can't dwell on that, there is a ton of football left to be played. We have to stay together as a fan base too - the recruits see that and above all we HAVE to keep this class together! So let's rally and get behind our team! Go Vols!!
Chaney had help last year...a great set of receivers, CP, and a QB who could get it to them..run game was still spotty, but the passing game was better. For sure we got a head coaching upgrade but not impressed with the offense play calling 2 runs then pass! I sure do miss Chaney!
Here's the thing about good coaching. It takes a while to sink in.
Even if Butch were General Neyland, the players would still need reps at game speed in order to take what they have learned in the film room and on the practice field and consolidate that stuff into good instincts on the field. It all just takes time and reps.
One thing I can tell you for sure, if you don't think you can sit back, relax and enjoy watching a three-year rebuilding effort (which will be rocky at times), then you may as well check out now. Because you're not helping anything by complaining on a message board, and that includes your own mental health.
Try relaxing. Butch will get them where they need to be. Even if you have a roster full of studs, it still takes time. Ask Saban and Alabama how that first season went.
Let me educate you friend, about the first amendment and it's intention:
It was written to keep people like yourself and the OP from silencing those folks like me who have dissenting opinions--and secured the establishment of a public forum (like message boards on sports forums) for the discussion and debate of ideas and opinions.
The first amendment doesn't make it disrespectful to have and vocalize opinions--even when they may contradict the intention or opinions of the OP in a volnation thread. In fact, it actually PROTECTS the discussion and everyone's right to participate in the forum.
Nevertheless--I will leave this thread so that you may continue on with your "hogsqueeze." :salute:
Let's just say this....I will never say anything bad about Worley again after seeing Peterman start over him. When Worley came in, I felt a little more relieved. He did throw some good passes and even threw a touchdown to Pig. Hopefully, this can be some sort of message that gets him going
We seem to be having endless debate about whether or to what degree the results of the last two games relate to coaching or talent. I personally think it is both but find myself responding more to those who avoid blaming the coaches at all. Seems few are in denial about UT's roster being less than ideal.
I have challenged others to point to signs for believing that this coaching staff is the right one to get it done... a reason to hope and believe in Jones.
The point of this thread is to list those "positives".
I do not think these are enough but will start with a couple of good signs I've noticed. Please feel free to add... but let's stay away from the negative stuff. We already have about 50 threads for that.
1- Croom's catch. Early in the season he looked lost and dropped easy catches. His catch on the slant from Worley vs UF was outstanding. He got inside position, used his body to shield off the defender, maintained great concentration, then caught a rocket pass with his hands and held on after getting hit pretty good. Croom is being coached up effectively and apparently quickly.
2- The LB's. The back ups leave much to be desired. However the starters are pretty good. AJ is being AJ... a good thing. Both Brewer and Sapp are making plays in space and are above avg LB's in coverage. Thigpen's guys are doing well. The return of Maggitt could make it a very strong group.
3- Swafford. They found him... they coached him... they played him. His pick 6 on Saturday isn't the first time I've noticed him playing well. He obviously isn't an elite athlete... but he still found a way to blanket one of the best receivers in the SEC in man coverage then cut under him to get the pick.
4- Worley. The possible good to come out of losing a winnable game at UF was that Worley got to see what he could do playing loose. When Bray first took over vs USCe, he immediately played well because he seemed to have a devil may care attitude. Simms played tight as a bow string. Bray had fun. Maybe... the brilliance of starting Peterman will be that Worley lets a little of his inner gun slinger come out. Maybe Jones has gotten him to stop hesitating on his decisions.
Reading some of your posts on your thread, and it kind of made me wonder.. Are you a 45 year old woman going through menopause. If not you sure act like it.
Also, consider that our schedule is brutal and we're playing some of the best teams in the country, Oregon, Bama, GA, FL, SCe; sad to say we also have some teams that we're supposed to win against AP, S. Alabama, WKU but all of the other SEC teams do the same thing. I've said it before but who else plays the #1 and #2 teams in the country and survives?
sjt18, I would personally like to thank you for starting this thread. Although I do not have much to add to it seeing as all my feelings have already been posted, I would still like to thank you for starting a refreshing thread that is very informative to myself and others and not just another *****ing and complaining thread tearing down the team and coaching staff as the norm around here. Good job fine sir, and thanks again. You are one of my favorite poster on this site for a reason. You state you opinion/point and move on without all of the bickering of so many on here and it is greatly appreciated by myself and others on this site. Once again, thanks for a nice refreshing thread for a change.
