Good Signs

Let's just say this....I will never say anything bad about Worley again after seeing Peterman start over him. When Worley came in, I felt a little more relieved. He did throw some good passes and even threw a touchdown to Pig. Hopefully, this can be some sort of message that gets him going

For sure we got a head coaching upgrade but not impressed with the offense play calling 2 runs then pass! I sure do miss Chaney!

I watched the press conference today twice as I was feeding our baby lol! And I truly see the emotion in Butch Jones that has been sorely missing from this program for years. Yes it sucks to have lost to Florida - especially with their offensive issues (which seem to have taken a step forward with their new QB). But we have to move forward - the players can't dwell on that, there is a ton of football left to be played. We have to stay together as a fan base too - the recruits see that and above all we HAVE to keep this class together! So let's rally and get behind our team! Go Vols!!

In addition to the positives noted throughout this thread - watching CBJ today, I saw a coach who truly cares about his players and is proud to be their coach...

Chaney had help last year...a great set of receivers, CP, and a QB who could get it to them..run game was still spotty, but the passing game was better.

Defense sucked last year.

Thanks for a great thread...I truly think we are headed in the right direction. Is CBJ the "Savior"? Time will tell, but at least he is getting the program turned around.

This team is more disciplined and have a better working together attitude rather than each trying to stand out alone. It's obvious the lack of talent that jones was left with. He has really turned the D around and will do the same for the O too. We need someone to lead this team at QB and I don't think we have seen him play yet. The future is bright here. Stay the course vol fans

The Defence isn't getting gashed for huge runs and their angles aren't as bad as last year. There also seems to be more pride in the jersey than last year as well. It looks like they actually have players that "give there all for Tennessee today" on this team..

Here's the thing about good coaching. It takes a while to sink in.

Even if Butch were General Neyland, the players would still need reps at game speed in order to take what they have learned in the film room and on the practice field and consolidate that stuff into good instincts on the field. It all just takes time and reps.

One thing I can tell you for sure, if you don't think you can sit back, relax and enjoy watching a three-year rebuilding effort (which will be rocky at times), then you may as well check out now. Because you're not helping anything by complaining on a message board, and that includes your own mental health.

Try relaxing. Butch will get them where they need to be. Even if you have a roster full of studs, it still takes time. Ask Saban and Alabama how that first season went.

Also, consider that our schedule is brutal and we're playing some of the best teams in the country, Oregon, Bama, GA, FL, SCe; sad to say we also have some teams that we're supposed to win against AP, S. Alabama, WKU but all of the other SEC teams do the same thing. I've said it before but who else plays the #1 and #2 teams in the country and survives?

Let me educate you friend, about the first amendment and it's intention:

It was written to keep people like yourself and the OP from silencing those folks like me who have dissenting opinions--and secured the establishment of a public forum (like message boards on sports forums) for the discussion and debate of ideas and opinions.

The first amendment doesn't make it disrespectful to have and vocalize opinions--even when they may contradict the intention or opinions of the OP in a volnation thread. In fact, it actually PROTECTS the discussion and everyone's right to participate in the forum.

Nevertheless--I will leave this thread so that you may continue on with your "hogsqueeze." :salute:

Good lord dude quit trying to sound like a lawyer. Also, you're talking down to people on here. You are acting like a little jackass and it's easy to see you trying to sound intelligent. I doubt you contribute much here or in society.

I believe if he had been coached properly over the last couple years this season would be looking a'lot different.

All I ask for is consistency. When a player misses an assignment, drops a pass, misses a tackle, is out of position don't say "well that player is no good, We don't have the talent etc. its not the coaches fault" Then when a player makes a good play we say "wow the coaching is really good see the results."

SJT . . . I believe that there are many positives that are being displayed each and every Saturday.

1. Reduction in penalties - this is coaching, instilling discipline and holding players accountable.

2. Palardy – vastly improved, I believe that the coaches have shown that they believe in his abilities and it has translated into a positive on the field and his performance.

3. Defensive front seven – not too many people running the football up the middle against Big Dan, Hood and AJ. Brewer and Sapp have been huge surprises with their play!

4. Take-Aways – the defense as a whole has drastically improved, specifically with players reading and making adjustments with assignments.

5. Gang Tackling – The Orange Swarm!! Enough said!

6. Hustle – We are seeing a team that is hustling in every aspect of the game – running to the ball, gang tackling, running on and off of the field, getting to the line of scrimmage quickly, etc., etc., etc.

7. Coaching staff and players – I believe that we have a coaching staff that truly cares for the players, conversely I believe that the players care for the coaching staff – these kids are playing so much better than they did last year.

Just a few observations . . . there are many more that I am sure that we as fans in the stands do not see – in the film room, weight room, and practice field . . .

GO VOLS!!!

We seem to be having endless debate about whether or to what degree the results of the last two games relate to coaching or talent. I personally think it is both but find myself responding more to those who avoid blaming the coaches at all. Seems few are in denial about UT's roster being less than ideal.

I have challenged others to point to signs for believing that this coaching staff is the right one to get it done... a reason to hope and believe in Jones.

The point of this thread is to list those "positives".

I do not think these are enough but will start with a couple of good signs I've noticed. Please feel free to add... but let's stay away from the negative stuff. We already have about 50 threads for that.

1- Croom's catch. Early in the season he looked lost and dropped easy catches. His catch on the slant from Worley vs UF was outstanding. He got inside position, used his body to shield off the defender, maintained great concentration, then caught a rocket pass with his hands and held on after getting hit pretty good. Croom is being coached up effectively and apparently quickly.

2- The LB's. The back ups leave much to be desired. However the starters are pretty good. AJ is being AJ... a good thing. Both Brewer and Sapp are making plays in space and are above avg LB's in coverage. Thigpen's guys are doing well. The return of Maggitt could make it a very strong group.

3- Swafford. They found him... they coached him... they played him. His pick 6 on Saturday isn't the first time I've noticed him playing well. He obviously isn't an elite athlete... but he still found a way to blanket one of the best receivers in the SEC in man coverage then cut under him to get the pick.

4- Worley. The possible good to come out of losing a winnable game at UF was that Worley got to see what he could do playing loose. When Bray first took over vs USCe, he immediately played well because he seemed to have a devil may care attitude. Simms played tight as a bow string. Bray had fun. Maybe... the brilliance of starting Peterman will be that Worley lets a little of his inner gun slinger come out. Maybe Jones has gotten him to stop hesitating on his decisions.

Some of your points are valid and I tend to agree with you about Worley's direction and the opportunity he had to play loose.

IMO, he doesn't have the talent we need not do I think he would be a good gunslinger. However, I do think he has the ability to slow the game down by managing the offense and coordinating controlled/sustained drives.

I was at the game on Saturday and noticed that even when we were down 31-17 with under 8 minutes to go our defense was still going 100%.

We didnt roll over and take it like we have the last three years.

When Worley stepped into his throws, he looked like a D1 QB.

I agree

Reading some of your posts on your thread, and it kind of made me wonder.. Are you a 45 year old woman going through menopause. If not you sure act like it.

LOL... not exactly. Some of you guys seem to think this is something other than recreation for me. This is NOT serious. This is FUN. I enjoy debate and sometimes arguing... and not just this subject. I think it keeps your mind sharp to debate and have to think through things.

Last week, I made a decision and had to tell a young man about the age of many of the posters here and the players we're discussing that he wasn't up to expectations and would need to find another job. That's serious.

Within this year, I fired a guy for stealing that had worked in my facility for over 30 years... and his wife who was an exceptional supervisor. I would guess that together they made several times more money than most of the people on this board and they were both nearing retirement age. That's serious.

I'm responsible for running a multi-million dollar facility and figuring out how to make a profit in a very, very difficult economy and market. That's serious.

I work in an industry where people have been killed doing routine tasks recently. It is my overall responsibility to keep hundreds of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors safe. That's serious.

While VERY serious for the people who are directly involved in the football program... there is NOTHING serious or particularly meaningful about our banter here over whether Jones is the right coach or whether Neal or Lane is a better RB. This is an outlet... not an occupation. In spite of how serious it may SEEM to some of you...it isn't serious nor is it even personal. I joust with my friends in roughly the same ways... it is just harder to see the smiles and non-verbal cues on a message board.

We've been playing very tough schedules for the last 3 yrs, so we can't try to use this as an out. One big positive coming into this season is that many of the experienced players, especially the OL, have a lot of experience against the best teams in the country. That past experience will help for sure this year.

I know what's being said and why... but this schedule is not appreciably harder than the one UT played 3 years ago. The big difference would seem to be trading Mizzou for LSU which makes the '10 schedule even tougher than the '13 schedule:

UTM
Oregon
UF
UAB
LSU
UGA
Bama
USCe
Memphis
Ole Miss
Vandy
UK

sjt18, I would personally like to thank you for starting this thread. Although I do not have much to add to it seeing as all my feelings have already been posted, I would still like to thank you for starting a refreshing thread that is very informative to myself and others and not just another *****ing and complaining thread tearing down the team and coaching staff as the norm around here. Good job fine sir, and thanks again. You are one of my favorite poster on this site for a reason. You state you opinion/point and move on without all of the bickering of so many on here and it is greatly appreciated by myself and others on this site. Once again, thanks for a nice refreshing thread for a change.

Not to mention all the other positives in this thread. Thumbs up!!
