Gorsuch refuses to mask up

And two days after this story spiraled the drain NPR continues to very publicly self flagellate. I cannot wait to see how they are going to prove Roberts is a liar. The entertainment value in this thread still delivers 😂

Dude, hearsay that the “highly educated lawyers” have parsed and deemed credible trumps a first hand direct rebuttal. Try to keep up.

I suppose that "in some form" might include telepathy, and it would certainly be hard to disprove that Roberts attempted to beam his request into the 8 justices brains.

That’s about on par with what I expect in NPR’s rebuttal at this point.

“We have it on very good authority from a janitor whom was sitting on the can when a court reporter was conversing with a lobby admin that they could have heard something sounding like Roberts asked the justices to wear masks and have the email account of the janitor to prove it. We of course cannot dox our source for fear of his safety and for protection from retribution.” 😂

And if they don't?

By the way, the actual wording in the article was "asked", not "suggested." It's still there, if you'd like to see it.
Even if they did, they’d be crazy to burn their source over what amounts to gossip that clearly hasn’t offended the person who was supposed to be offended by the act people are gossiping about. Nobody would give them/Totenberg information ever again.

I’m sure they had sources that they felt were reliable but the denials by the justices are just better evidence.

That's the danger of anonymous sources, particularly secondary or tertiary sources. You run the risk of the primary source publicly crapping on your story, and you have no wat to rebut it. I don't believe that Totenberg made the story up out of whole cloth. But it's clear that she got burned by a source, and NPR should retract the story.

I absolutely love the complete disconnect still apparent in the tweet. John Roberts, in a rare documented pubic statement there for all to see, “appears to deny” the story claim. I appeared to have dropped a deuce in the toilet 10 minutes ago. I will post further commentary later today supporting that claim. Perhaps an email from my wife thinking she smelled said deuce when she went in after me 🤷‍♂️

I wonder why she didn’t go to the Court’s press office for comment before publishing.

Some of you guys are so easy.

Of course I know that some of you view me as being as gullible, biased, and sheepish as I do you. That's a large part of the great humor to be found in the PF.

But who is correct?
Not saying you aren't wrong, your just unaware of how right to are about yourself as well.

I'm gonna LMAO if NPR has receipts (email, etc) that Roberts suggested to the justices that they all should wear masks.

Do you really think Roberts would come out with such a statement if such emails existed? When are you going to quit speculating and start going with the facts? Do you have any facts that support Totenberg's story? I've got factual statements from 3 justices that refute it

EL never left the fantastical thinking 8 year olds have to advance to adulthood. For some reason he got stuck stuck in that stage and ran with it.

I THINK this may be the promised statement, but I'm note sure.

NPR reporting on Supreme Court mask controversy merits clarification
There’s your real non denial denial in all this. They offer not a retraction based on their story being total bull 💩 but instead clarified exactly what kind of bull 💩 it was after Roberts clearly pointed out their story was bull 💩. Totenberg was a useful idiot in this hilarious and continuing self own by NPR.

Totenberg's story never claimed that Sotomayor directly asked Gorsuch to wear a mask. But Robert's statement directly refuted NPR's reporting. "I did not request Justice Gorsuch or any other justice to wear a mask on the bench," he said.

The disconnect between the story and Chief Justice Roberts' statement is concerning to many NPR listeners and readers who wrote to us.

playing word changes again I see. The NPR story specifically used the word "asked". CJR specifically said he did not ask.

you yourself said "suggesting" is not the same as a "request". likewise it is not the same as "asking"

NPR botched it and you are denying all evidence because you want to believe the story. Now you are hoping for imaginary documents to back up the debunked story.

OK, the NPR "update" is also incorrect where it says this:

No one has challenged the broader focus of Totenberg's original story, which asserts that the justices in general are not getting along well. The controversy over the anecdotal lead, which was intended to be illustrative, has overwhelmed the uncontested premise of the story.

The Justices' statement here directly challenges it:

"While we may sometimes disagree about the law, we are warm colleagues and friends."

Is that not a challenge to the report that they're not getting along? I think NPR tried to do damage control on this and they're just digging themselves deeper. IMO the Justices are trying to make it clear to NPR: don't try to air our dirty laundry. If you do we will burn you

Nina Totenberg will play hell trying to get anymore inside information out of the SCOTUS. She may as well get assigned somewhere else

Why can’t people just take an L on a story they tried to will into truth? Your big scoop was a fantasy, correct the story and move on. It’s such a trivial tale to begin with, I don’t understand why they want to die on this very small hill.

Wow. That is one of the worst editorial statements I've ever seen. Rolling Stone's statements after their phony gang rape story weren't this bad. They'd have been better off just issuing a retraction.
Heard a theory that they’re standing by it because the source is a justice.

Basically, the reasoning was that clerks are there for a year. Journalist wouldn’t trust a source this much without some longstanding relationship. I feel like this doesn’t rule out a few other career staffers.

All I can say is I hope NPR continues to issue more updates and clarifications so we can milk this hilarious story a few more days and watch their ongoing self own continue to unfold 😂
