Government Mule's Official and Authentic Game Thread LV's vs Miss State

I am not blaming Mercedes. I have noticed this last year and this year--every game. I had noticed it her first year, but thought when they operated on her feet it would change. Just watch her.

I know she's slow. She's not as mobile or athletic as someone like Coates or Turner. She's just not built that way. She's never going to outsprint Victoria Vivians end to end.

She also gets beat up by multiple defenders. Coupled with the fact that Holly is riding her like a mule even against cupcakes will just further contribute to the wear and tear.

Exactly and Nunn has shown that she is fully capable of holding her own (and as someone who doesn't get off the floor) is a better rebounder than Russell, it is no way she should only be seeing about 6 to 7 minutes a game that is crazy

Qui isn't the scorer that Mercedes is, but she doesn't have to be. MSU's McCowan can best be described as "lumbering" on offense, but she got 7 wide open layups, mostly by virtue of Williams or Vivians attacking the paint, drawing an extra defender, and dumping the ball to McCowan right under the hoop for an easy bucket. There's no reason Diamond or Jaime can't do the same, except for that shrieking voice yelling, "Inside out... INSIDE OUT!!!!!"

And that's the stickler. Time after Williams and Vivians attacked the paint and dished off to McCowan and she scored. It was mostly all in the 2nd half.

Did CHW see it happening and told her team to check that? Or did CHW see it happening and said nothing to her team? Doesn't really matter at this point.

Game over. :thud:

for everyone waiting until next year...not gonna happen. i want the lady vols to get back on track as much as anyone, but at some point you just have to admit no amount of being positive is going to right this ship. problems i see next year - who's going to step up and lead this team? If Mercedes decides to leave, who has experience in the post? If Mercedes stays, who's her back-up when she's tired and just barely making it up the floor? I don't see anyone being groomed for that role. Even with the #1 signing class, it'll take some time for these players to adjust and then who's going to help them evolve into all americans?

If it doesn't happen next year never will with Holly. If Diamond and Russell come back along with Nared you have three top very experienced players. Then you are Green who has as much experience as anyone having played on the British Olympic team and two years of JC. Then you have Cooper back and even is she isn't better still better than Reynolds and Middleton. Add Hayes very quick guard excellent scorer. Then you have the number two and 9 players in the class to back these players up. If Holly loses more than five games with this group she needs to be fired. This will be the most talented team we've had since Parker was here.

I see you and I agree more than disagree. Nunn cannot get off the floor and MR has got to get some rest in the first two quarters. I would give Harris a couple of minutes rather than have a worn out MR for the entire last half if it were me. She certainly is not going to help us on the bench all the time or is she going to score us back to a win while MR is watching. Again this is a lack of dept due to piss poor recruiting! JMO! :bash:

You think next year's team will be more talented than last year's? I know the incoming class is talented, but they are still freshmen, and there's no way of knowing how they will pan out.

Rennia Davis is the scorer, but she will be playing behind Diamond and Jaime next year.

Hayes will probably have a Cooper-esque start to her career as she learns to acclimate to the college game.

KK will probably not get many minutes playing behind more experienced posts.

Westbrook is probably in the best position to be an immediate contributor, and even then, she will be playing behind or sharing time with Cooper and probably Diamond.

Next year's team will provide depth, but given how the team is doing this year with the players they have, they need to have good coaching to make the team better than where they are now.

Last year had a bunch of sophomores that will be seniors next season. Cooper will have been in the program three years instead of one and Green is a viable replacement for Graves. Regardless of being freshmen the bench is far better than Middleton, Dunbar, Jackson, Carter, and Nia. Yes more experience and talent on next years team and no reason we can't get out of our freshmen as much as other teams get out of theirs when they are top ten players. Most of last years top ten are either starters or heavy contributors for their teams I expect these highly rated players will have the talent to do the same for us.

I see three freshmen getting a lot of minutes next season Hayes, Davis, and Westbrooks as they take minutes away from the starters and the bench players. The way our players pick up two fouls early in most every game they will be playing a lot.
