Government Mule's Official and Authentic Game Thread LV's vs Miss State

I agree with many of your points ....the exception is your proclamation that State is not a very good team .When essentially their bench can keep them in the game and even take the lead in 2nd QTR ,I submit that State is a very good team and time will tell but they just may be an Elite 8 or better team. They have size inside ,a very good point guard and have an All American scorer in Vivian which to me translates into at least the 2nd best team in SEC .....anxious to see how they fare against South Carolina because they have enough size and depth in the post to give them fits.

We should know how good MS is because they are essentially the same squad as last year. They were easily the 2nd best team in the SEC going into the season.

I think SC should still win comfortably. More talented at every position besides PG.

that Miss. State does not seem hugely talented to me. Vivians is certainly talented and athletic--but she misses a LOT of shots. I'll have to see what her shooting percentage is for the year. After her, where is all their talent? Their center is big and decent. Their point guard is tiny and didn't do much. She's not bad but I saw nothing special about her. We got hurt by the coach's daughter who made three or four treys--but there are 200 players like her in the women's game. We just don't have any of them!

Does Miss. State have more talent than we do? I would say, emphatically, that they do not. They play hard and are better coached. We had 17 turnovers today; they had, what, 8. If you gave our team to Geno and played Miss. State, who would win? It is easy to overate teams that beat us because we underachieve. It was somewhat hard to get a sense of Miss. State because the game was so ragged with so many fouls. We played pretty badly and yet were in a position to win the game with 3 minutes to play. That alone suggests that Miss. State isn't great. Good, maybe, solid--but not exceptional.

Holly I haven't forgot about you. WTH are you saving timeouts? As if you get Money back at the end if you don't use them all. Should have called a timeout in the second quarter when seen the lead dwindling and the stupid turnovers begin to happen. You should have put Jordan back in the game way before they'd taken the lead and trusted her not to pick up her third foul. Tried to put her in when it was 27 seconds left before the half. Also would you please use Nunn more.

Their tiny PG scored 21 pts and is probably the best PG in the SEC.

But no, MS is not more talented than Tennessee. They only appear to have more depth because their coach actually gives their bench minutes in blow out games instead of riding their starters for 35 minutes.

I was suprised to see the attendance for this game was 8500 or close to that. Maybe weather played a role in the low attendance? Has Tennessee even broke 10000 for a game yet??

I have an observation: Mercedes runs like her hips hurt (or something). Key on her the next game and tell me what you think. I figured it would clear up when her feet were operated on, but it has not. Sometimes it seems she can hardly get down the floor.

I'm not for sure, but I do know once we start winning again and get back in the picture for a National Championship, that's when we'll start to see the larger crowds. Don't get me wrong 8,500 is alot better than 95% of the rest of the country but we could bring in more.

She played the whole game and MS was physical with her.

There are many reasons they lost, but Mercedes should not bear any of that responsibility.

Weather played a big part in it. Looking around, you could tell many didn't make it.

Time will tell .... we can continue this dialog in late March.

We could not get stops wen we needed how does Schafer get open again and again she does one thing. Middleton and meme was wide open and air ball you got to be kidding me.

I have been one of Holly's harshest critics but this loss can not be pinned on her.

I am one of Holly's harshest critics and I say this loss can be pinned on her.

1. Turnovers
2. No timeouts to spell a breather for Mercedes
3. Not demanding the players to STOP hoisting up jump shots with no orange jerseys to rebound
There's more but why bother?

When the team makes the same mistakes over and over and over, I think it can be pinned on coaches because it's clear things aren't being done to address it. Turnovers have been a huge problem for several years now, as have lack of movement on offense (which leads to more turnovers) and not boxing out.

The the inability to call timeouts has to be my biggest pet peeve when it comes to Holly. It really is just common sense. Even people who have never played or coached basketball know Holly is severely lacking in her feel for when to call a TO.

oh for goodness sake, be quiet Holly.:bash:

for everyone waiting until next year...not gonna happen. i want the lady vols to get back on track as much as anyone, but at some point you just have to admit no amount of being positive is going to right this ship. problems i see next year - who's going to step up and lead this team? If Mercedes decides to leave, who has experience in the post? If Mercedes stays, who's her back-up when she's tired and just barely making it up the floor? I don't see anyone being groomed for that role. Even with the #1 signing class, it'll take some time for these players to adjust and then who's going to help them evolve into all americans?

I thank the Vanderbilt team beat her up pretty good and she probably sore from that.

Did not see the game, but looking at the stats - Only 17 field goals for the game total, and only 6 total assists. 30.9% field goal percentage and 17 turnovers. Plus 0% from 3.

Not pretty.

But Miss St. wasn't much better other than the TOs. And so, so, so many fouls...must not have been a fun game to watch.

Against little stoppage the small, extremely active player Morgan Williams is an example
of what is going to happen over and over again.

I am not blaming Mercedes. I have noticed this last year and this year--every game. I had noticed it her first year, but thought when they operated on her feet it would change. Just watch her.
