Eric, I'm OK with "He's a UT lean" or "Tennessee is the leader", which I hear a lot on this board. I have the utmost respect for these posters, even if they turn out to be wrong. :hi:

What I'm not OK with are the over-zealous (and immature?) posters who take these comments and convert them to "Vol lock" and "He's all Vol". While I take these kind of comments with more than a grain of salt, it makes them look really silly in hindsight when the recruit goes elsewhere.

No one is a "lock" until they enroll as EE or sign a LOI.

Which is my point. If people believe that someone is a "Lock" to be true before they sign anything or enroll, then that's just wrong. Maybe people are gullible enough to believe it, others are not.

I don't think he followed Gran. It sounds like he was never going anywhere other than FSU. His family/brother wouldn't let him...

Big Lance makes a lot of money for someone who has not been able to recruit anyone so far. I am expecting a big finish from him, but so far Gran was doing more for the LB class than he was.

A little off subject but does anyone know how Jerod Askew is coming along in his developement as a linebacker. It seems like we hauled in quite a few LB's in last yrs class. I know King got some playing time. Seems like when all these MLB's get healed up in the offseason we should have some depth but a beast or two in this yrs class would make me feel better.

If you dont want to be criticized dont put yourself in that situation. Its one thing to put info out there but dont claim you have inside info, dont claim you know more than you do and be very clear you are nothing more than a web site crawler taking a guess.

Thats the problem here. We have people here who put info out but when people call them gurus, in the know, or what not they dont refute it, they probably eat it up.

Its one thing to post rumors, say what you are hearing but being ADAMANT about someone being a lock, or whatever, then you deserve a little backlash from the masses for getting peoples hopes up. Recruiting is a drug to some and if they want to voice their opinion, and keep it civil then whats wrong with that?

I agree some of the comments can go over board and should be kept in check. On the flip side the mods could be a little more fair in passing judgment against people when the some of the ones they are trying to "protect" have been known to attack posters just as often if not more than others.

I am sure this will get deleted but it needed to be said.

He's doing fine, he was redshirted and he could have played but it was so late in the season, Kiffin wanted to conserve him for next year.


On another subject, I predict pain for anyone who steals my Mr. T persona!:):)

Guru is just a tag for members that have been around for a long time and have contributed by posting a lot. It has nothing to do with having inside information.

The bottom line is this: I can agree with both sides in this thread. I understand Eric's point that posters shouldn't be attacked just for throwing out predictions or information that they've heard. That's what this board is all about -- discussion and sharing.

We have several posters here with great recruiting information. They are praised often when they are correct, just as I'm sure they will take some ribbing when they miss. I think that is perfectly acceptable.

But at the same time, I'm sure there are those who, while contributing nothing to the recruiting forum or discussions themselves, choose to take it too far.

Honestly, I've not even had a chance to read the posts Eric is referring to. I'm speaking in general terms.


Can't we all just get along? :)

Freak, you do an outstanding job, but I am sure that you would agree that the "inside" information along with some solid analysis by others is a big reason this board thrives.

I think that it is important to remember that a lot of information can be right at that moment, but can be wrong a day, a week, a month, or a year later. This is especially the case with recruiting. As a person that has worked with in both a collegiate and high school setting, I have been fortunate enough to work with a lot of talented kids in various sports. Family members/situations, coaching relationships/changes, rooting interest, cash/car/textbook:) offers,girlfriend/boyfriends, etc.. are all things that can change a 17-18 year old mind a the drop of the hat. Its hard to understand sometimes, but a lot of times it is because our life experiences (for the more experienced on here... ex: you know letting a girl effect the decision is not wise) and rooting interests.

I think half of the posters complaining and calling for heads haven't REALLY followed recruiting that hard. These are 17-18 year old kids. They make a lot of decisions that leave you saying WTF? Trust me I was one of them before. At the end of the day the sky is not falling, and we are still Tennessee. We will get our share of big time recruits. It is a long way till NSD.

Agree. This is why people are asking for it when calling these kids locks when they have no clue and it doesnt go as they claim.

I still don't think we should have to pay Eddie Gran or Frank wilson.. maybe half their salary... if they wanted to get paid for a years work they should have to stay a year. F them... Florida State Eddie? give me a break, I hope you lose all your money in the stock market

Really?

We haven't had a decommit since Cobbs, Luc was a close race, one that was played close to the vest, heard a lot of speculation on who was leading.

Gran is a good man.

I'm hoping all of the chicken little fans decommit next. Recruiting is not for the light of heart.
